I used to be a big proponent of that ideology, but the more and more I experience things in life and the more and more people I meet, the more I realize certain people are predisposed to liking certain things, and what people like really informs how they think and act. And that's alright. Just harness the things you love. Don't fight them - allow yourself to be drawn into them. Use them to drive yourself and make yourself better. There is nothing in this world so shallow you can't learn from it, and anything you can learn from is useful.
