>>152699861I wouldn't even blame Hickman for this. Marvel cut this off early. They expected way to much from a long neglected corner of the MU. Hell She-Hulk wasn't even at cancellation levels and Nova seemed to be bouncing back. The only book the truly bombed was black panther. So either they expected this to do gangbuster or they just changed their minds immediately. By all accounts this was cancelled before Imperial guardians was even solicited, which is why the mutant book got cancelled outright.
the sad thing is Imperial/the spinoffs have turned into such a notorious nonstarter that its highly unlikely we'll ever get another attempt to do a "marvel cosmic corner" in comicsDisney/Marvel corporate are going to be so gun shy after such a quick snuffing. Number crunchers will never think its worth the take the risk on an initiative like this ever again. At some point, the GOTG will be revamped for the movies. Disney's not just going to leave that brand dormant. When that happens, there will be an attempt at GOTG comics, but thats it.
