And... well, thats it. Volume 3 is confirmed.
>>
An act of terrorism on this scale would undeniably end up being the biggest news story in the country. Especially pre-9/11. Someone blowing up an entire town, and the fact they're undeniably tied to all the bodies in paint cans in the area too. Fire won't cover up the fact her building had fucking ceiling shotguns, and her being a suspect in the aforementioned paint cans incident would lead everyone to conclude it was her. She'd be more wanted than the unabomber, but instead of no one knowing what she looks like, everyone knows. TL:DR She's fucked. Her trial is going to be the furry-world equivalent of the OJ Simpson trial and get broadcast to thousands of people. New laws are going to get passed because of her. You're gonna have to go through the fucking TSA to go through Toll Booths now. That's how bad it would get after an incident like this.
>>
>yeah so basically I just blew up the whole town lol
They really did jump the shark
>>
Underwhelming.
Bye.
>>
>>152700557
Yeah, the Idea she can just go out to some random desert town and be safe is retarded lol, he redneck neighbours would rat on her for the however many thousand dollars reward and she'd get kidnapped by the glowies the very same day. She'd get the chair for sure.
>>
>>152700535
Karma Houdini ending.
I guess author is going to make more funny stories about this remorseless serial killer bear woman.
Setting up an entire town on fire was kinda unexpected from her.
>>
>>152700508
He's been in this second series since the beginning. He's more cannon fodder than a killer.
>>152700524
After (provided that crossover is canon). Sam didn't have gray hair in DC KO, so it's clearly when she's in her prime (probably after the first series, but before this one).

Sam should've just been a regular serial killer
Having her burn the town down is just way too over the top

when has a serial killer IRL ever done anything on this level?
>>
>>152700508
He was in the first one. He was one.of the first characters introduced and was on the float when the goat's corpse was unveiled and the townsfolk briefly considered him a suspect. He got decked by the pig lady later in the story.

Him becoming a shut in started in the forst.story because of everything he went through.

Monica was done so dirty by being turned into crispy duck. She should have been the one to kill Sam, was the far more interesting character at this stage in the story, and unless she's going to show up covered in burns - which would still be less bullshit than ceiling shotguns and planting a fire bomb in the fire station break room - this is it for her.

The annoying part of this isn't that Sam survived. It's that she acted like a fucking moron throughout all of this, got extremely sloppy and cocky, and completely threw her killing M.O. out of the window and STILL survived. She may as well have been a different character with how she was written in Rite of Spring compared to the original or even the one-shot in Germany.

I honestly don't know if I'll even bother with the next volume.
>>
>>152700813
I don't know why you expected that at all.
>>
>>152700840
It's feasible enough to me that she could blow up the town and make it to podunk, nowhere, but not that she could hide out for years and years. Nowhere is isolated enough to not hear about a giant manhunt for a terrorist serial killer.

For this to work, she'll have to stumble upon an actual insular cult whose members are effectively cut off from the outside world through brainwashing.
>>
>>152700528
Mmm...
Roasted duck...
>>
Well, Rite of Spring is over.

Now what?

I'd like Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees to be something like a tetralogy (because I'm reading the prequel about young Sam in Germany).

With the last part set in the 2000s.
>>
>>152700885
>The annoying part of this isn't that Sam survived. This. Part of her appeal in the original story was her code of no killing in the town, and her struggle to deal with someone coming in and fucking everything up. Now all of the sudden she's an arsonist and killing anyone in her way. I get that years have past, but it's a complete whiplash in character.
>>
>>152700885
I ain't got a problem with Sam becoming sloppy I feel like that makes sense all serial killers become sloppy asshloles after a while they always get bored and stop caring about the details

Having her get away with it is another thing. if she doesn't die in the next volume I'm going to be really pissed off.

How it should have ended:
>all the same up to page 14. Lewis stealing the car is a great way for him to have his own revenge for Chip
>Do NOT immediately invalidate this by a blind and deaf driver coincidently driving down the alley but didn't see Sam shoot her still smoking gun
>Monica uses the growing flames to burn through the rope whilst Sam is distracted by Lewis
>jumps Sam from behind, chokes her with what's left of the rope. They stumble back inside
>store room brawl as the fire rises, grabbing all sorts of weapons from the boxes
>Sam has the advantage, Monica gets gravely wounded. But Monica is able to pull some shelving over
>Monica squirms free, but Sam's foot is caught as if it's a bear-trap
>they have a final talk to say their pieces, with Sam reminding Monica that this will be the third person she's killed now
>Monica leaves just before the fire covers the doorway
>Sam lays back for a final internal monologue, smiling, imagining the fire as all her past victims closing in on her to rip away at her flesh
>we see the aftermath in the news. They never find Sam's body as it burned up in the fire
>Monica is being treated to by doctors, but seeing the grieving Koala family in the distance, decides it's best to go home now
>years late, searching online shows that Sam's true crimes have been exposed, and she's been blamed for framing Nigel for his crimes too.
Internet edgelords do create a fanbase for her. There is fear of copycat killers, especially from those who believe she is still alive somehow
>Monica is trying to return to a normal life. She angrily pulls down an "OBEY Giant" style sticker with Sam's face on it from a lamppost she walks past
>As she goes to a cafe to grab a cafe, she looks up at the news on the TV. Eyes widen: A missing person from last month has been found: chopped up and buried in paint cans
>>
Sam psychopath or sociopath?
>>
>>152701165
Psycho, definitely. We get to read her thoughts and she genuinely has no affection for or attachment to anyone. She's not just a user and manipulator with a disregard for others' rights and feelings, they are literally nothing to her.
>>
>>152701165
Psychopath.
You can generally tell if someone is a sociopath, since their behavior is very outwardly abnormal.

A psychopath can fit into society. They just don't care about the other people in it, outside of what they can get from them, and will often put on an act to get what they want.
>>
I have these questions about the ending:

>Is the male koala (Michael) dead or was he rescued from the fire?
>Which US state did Sam flee to?
>Will Woodbrook be rebuilt?
>>
>>152700535
There's no fuckin' way she escaped all that, especially when more than enough witnesses survived and could easily tell authorities who it was that shotgunned the sheriff and blew up the town
Writer has Sam doing too much despite being characterized as just a Serial Killer with a very very meticulous way of picking and killing people. Then the duck girl fucking dies and it's not even somewhat satisfying. What a waste of a good concept
>>
>>152701513
I expected some fucking between them.
>>
>>152700954
It would be interesting to see what a sequel to Rite of Spring would be like.

With Sam now in her 60's (looking like a grandmother in some town in Utah, Arizona or New Mexico) and with Lewis or Wendy (or even both) as police investigators trying to uncover the truth about Samantha.
>>
I don't know which was a worse shark jump, the shotgun or burning the entire town down. Either way, he ruined the IP with one sequel which is impressive
>>
I'm just glad Lewis didn't die, I was worried there for a sec
>>
>>152700462

>>
>>152701452
>Is the male koala (Michael) dead or was he rescued from the fire?
Very likely dead. The fire is almost catching up with Mrs. Burrow's group, and she was just outside of his room a moment before in >>152700471

>Which US state did Sam flee to?
Unknown, but clearly one of the desert states. My money is on New Mexico.

>Will Woodbrook be rebuilt?
Very unlikely. The fire seems to have consumed most of the buildings, and such a small town would absolutely not have the fiances to rebuild on that scale, so unless a massive sum comes from outside the community, that place is gone.
>>
>>152700528
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOT THE SEXY DUCK LADY
>>
>>152700462
This might somehow be her biggest Karma Houdini moment in the entire series. She can't even go two panels where something has gone wrong and someone gets one over her before the universe just hands her an escape route.
>>
>>152701602
My condolences to Carol and Ricky.

I hope Carol finds a good male Koala in the future.

New Mexico could be a good option for Samantha. Arizona and Utah have larger populations and also have relatively important cities (Phoenix, Tucson, Salt Lake City), and New Mexico could have even smaller towns than Woodbrook.

I think they could eventually rebuild Woodbrook, but only partially.
>>

Maybe it can be a kind of grindhouse thing a la The Devil's Rejects. Her lone bear serial killer gimmick is obviously played out at this point, so there has to be a big pivot. That final line about having fans could be referring to a group of followers. Perhaps the author has already decided on this route.

I'm actually surprised more of the named/reoccurring characters from the town didn't die. We lost the sheriff and Chip and wasn't Cherry's husband the owl? Ngl I thought Anchovy was gonna do something stupid and get himself trapped and the turtle would die trying to find him.

Woodbrook is left as a ruined, deserted town after the incident and popular with youtubers and the type of people who enjoy wandering dilapidated towns, and an older Samantha snuck back to haunt the place and kill off the occasional person who wanders in.
Cue a modern ghost hunter type youtube channel group coming in, and she can Blair Witch them all to death

Guilt is self focused, while remorse is an outward empathetic emotion.
You feel guilty berceuse you personally feel bad about what happened, you feel remorse because you know you hurt someone else.
A sociopath doesn't feel remorse because someone else feels bad, but they do feel guilt because they personally feel bad, usually due to a feeling of shame.

How about this idea?

In the 2000s, an adult version of Lewis, now a police officer (or private investigator), learns that disappearances and crimes similar to those committed by Samantha in Woodbrook during the 1980s and 1990s have occurred in the southwestern United States.

So Lewis (possibly along with Wendy) would go to investigate and arrive in a town even smaller and more isolated than Woodbrook.

Samantha (now in her sixties) would continue killing people, but to keep a low profile, she would pose as a kind of small-town grandmother and only kill undesirable people (drug dealers, pedos, other murderers, and other social outcasts). But due to her age (and possibly the lack of contact with other people), Sam would begin to hear voices in her head and have hallucinations.

And Sam would also have to deal with all the technology like security cameras, people with video cameras (even camera phones), and people with more access to the internet.

That could also be an option for Lewis.

I also imagine Wendy as a medical examiner or even a psychologist (possibly to help Lewis and Pauline with their trauma).

I also imagine Woodbrook as an even smaller town than before (but not a ghost town). There would be a few residents still around (like Bertie), and they would still be dealing with the trauma of the 1994 fire.

There are pockets (less so these days) in the western US where you can more or less disappear. Now, granted, it really shouldn't work forever for Sam because she basically committed 9/11 the prequel, so that's potentially where the author might fuck up. I get the impression that Sam is writing this when she knows she's about to die though.

I'll admit I've never really been to the far west, but I live in the rural midwest, and went down to the southwest once on a road trip, and at least in terms of culture and behavior, it didn't really feel much different than back home.

What an anti-cathartic ending. There's jumping the shark and then there's doing flips over it. I can give Horvath a pass for some things, being an unknown creator who suddenly got a whiff of franchise money, but this is too egregious. Sam booby-trapping the town with explosives is such an insane leap in scale.

>>
>>152700316
What is Sam's final kill count over both series?

I imagine how that story would begin:

In the 2000s, Lewis and Wendy (now adults), along with their mother Pauline, would be visiting a memorial dedicated to those who died in the 1994 Woodbrook fire on an anniversary of the tragedy.

Wendy would talk to her mother, and we would learn that Wendy now works as a psychiatrist, helping people who have suffered the trauma of losing a loved one to a murderer.

Lewis, meanwhile, has been studying criminology, and he still wonders where Samantha could be.

The first comic and the Prequel felt grounded despite some of the theatrics Nigel was pulling
A very self-contained story about a Serial Killer in a small quiet town pulling off gruesome and murderous killings and it's up to another gruesome and murderous Serial Killer to put a stop to it. That was fine and it worked because there was a clear beginning, middle and end. The sequel could have had that but instead it goes through hoops and ladders to give Sam a happy ending even though she should have gotten caught and captured for her crimes
>>
>>152703786

"Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees The Movie" in 2030
>>
>>152703910
The book already abandoned its central conceit of a savvy serial killer in volume 2 so something has to happen. There's also the fact that Sam is not a heroic good guy killer like Dexter so her demise is what the audience should be rooting for.

Even after the silliness from Rite of Spring, I could see it pulling off something interesting, but I think I'll be disappointed if it doesn't end in volume 3. This was never set up as a campy series where an evil serial killer gets to commit terrorist acts and just keeps getting away. It needs to be the end for her.

Should have set Monica up to accidentally murder one of the koalas and she gets arrested trying to pursue the truth, and when she tries to tell the cops she has evidence about her brother's death. But when the cops go to find Sam at the hardware store they find it burning down with a body inside.

The evidence from Nigel is gone, Monica is framed for killing 'Sam' on top of the koala father, and Sam is seemingly gone. But she really just packed up after killing 'herself' (a bear she kidnapped from the city and killed for this purpose) and left to New Mexico for even quieter and more remote place to conduct her rituals, satisfied she had her out and that even her victims could bring victims to her that could solve her problems for her.

What makes it all imperfect is that forensics is good enough to tell the bear is not Sam, which is where the tension comes in. The developers in the woods find Sam's paint cans and Monica is finally questioned again about her claims regarding Sam. Lewis and his family end up devastated by the news that Sam may in fact be the real murderer.
>>
>>152700316
Lex's fear was justified
>>
>>152703527
At least Monica’s path of revenge was for a death that was actually by Sam.
Lewis think Sam killed her dad but that really was Nigel. And Chip’s death is indirectly hers only because a police officer managed to do a 180 spin when shot and had a spasm that just happened to hit someone walking past the window.

>>152705278
At this stage, death penalty is too easy for her, especially with how many years of freedom she’s had and how old she would be when she is caught. She deserves to sit in a cell alone and let the boredom of captivity kill her instraf.

>Volume 4 is just Sam sneaking out of her retirement home to run over kids in her mobility scooter, still never being caught
>>

The koala likely didn’t feel a thing due to being in a coma and would have been knocked out when hitting his head falling down the stairs.
>>
>>152706097
I seriously doubt Sam could destroy an entire state.

Besides, the bomb would kill her too.

Also, the whole burning down Woodbrook thing is a bit of a stretch.

I mean, how the heck did she plant incendiary bombs in a hospital and a fire station without anyone noticing?
>>

Maybe (maybe) if Sam as the local hardware store owner is *also* the town handibear she could get away with planting bombs where she did some repairs.

Samantha is one of the lamest fictional killers I've ever seen seriously, and you can clearly see the writter desperately trying to make her actually interesting because he had to go from boring vague reflections about her boring ways to nuking a whole town because she is now batman or something

This is great work, I even see you did the one I requested on /trash/

Shit ending. I could see them doing one last volume if it was gonna just be like a 'Sam's Final Days' thing where she's on the run after being exposed and trying to stave off the inevitable as long as she can... but YEARS? Fuck off.

>and unless she's going to show up covered in burns
its obvious she will with that sequel set up

Kinda funny how all of that could have been prevented had Monica decided to take the offer of the Koala father and check what was in the box together and would somehow be less retarded than the events that transpired instead

>>152702553
Actually given the timeframe wouldn't that mean Nick was only killed a few hours ago

What if Pauline was walking around in that hospital gown while actually wearing nothing underneath

Sam isn't interesting or charismatic enough to be pulling looney tunes shit or getting away with it long enough for another story

Furries don't even ask if they can give you a blowjob, they just look at you like this.
>>
>She fucking got away with everything
Of course she did, she can't be caught properly or die because the comic is popular. Garbage.

You know I'm not surprised that she can burn down the town and get away with it after what she can do with Lex Luthor

that cat has a FAT head. God I want to smoosh it.

Would do it something like this >>152701154
Monica wins, Sam appears to be dead but her body is lost in the fire, and then there's a cliffhanger that makes you wonder if Sam is back or if it's a copycat killer

>>152700535
>>152704887
It's certainly unsatisfying but I think this is what everyone that is still putting up with shit was expecting.
I doubt I'll read vol. 3 ever, because the only surprise is going to be how cartoony is it going to be.

This feels like something AI would have made. This shit is so stupid. Does the creator have a lot of bribe money? He have blackmail on higher ups. I refuse to believe they are so stupid as to think this shit is any good.

i'm surprised she couldn't even tip the chair over

I mean, it is good. Just in the way that you'd think a clown doing silly acts is "good".

Sam's entire appeal as a "charismatic killer" character was that she had rules to keep things nice and tidy, to not do anything in her own backyard, and she enjoyed the slow release of drawing the killing out like she was curious to see what was inside a person, which all manifested in graphic visions. This was consistent with the comic in Germany too.

The Sam we've had in Rite of Spring throws all of that out of the window. She makes an absolute sloppy mess of everything, she's inviting trouble to her own backyard as Monica would never have found out anything if Sam hadn't goaded her into coming (which amounts to nothing in the end), and instead of doing her autistic routine has just become a generic slasher villain who can't even be bothered to stick around to watch the rival she got obsessed with die. I don't think she even had any of her hallucinations in this final issue. At this point she's surviving on pure dumb luck which is frustrating to read.

Basically everything "cool" about Sam is gone, and the damage is too much that it can't be recovered now.

>>152709443
This. I have absolutely no idea what the creator was thinking.
>>
>>152709443
i think it probably would have worked better if monica was in woodbrook and suspicious anyway, and sam had to figure out how to wrap up the loose end. and then frames her for something as other anons have suggested.

that way sam doesn't look like a dummy for 'shitting where she eats'

So what's the moral here? I thought maybe she had a tragic backstory that caused her stress to build up or maybe she was bullied for being a carnivore and her appetite as a bear overconsuming her. But no. She kill fo fun and giggles. Am I supposed to sympathize with her? Cheer for her not to be caught?

>Sam settles down in a new town
>one day, the visions come back
>frequent glimpses of Monica's burnt up carcass glaring at her
>Sam pays it no mind, just another hallucination after all
>it's not

The moral is "your killer is your series mascot, and you have to cancel any of your artistic visions for this horror series to instead milk your mascot for as long as possible".

What’s the most thematically appropriate execution for her? My vote is Firing squad, since she’s a bear.
