It never made much sense to me that with a guy with such crippling insecurity that he literally burns his face into his mask (essentially his new face) also has this big tragic origin and is literally named "Conqueror Of Fate". It's too ridiculous. Especially when said name is a mishmash of English and Germanic words, Latveria is meant to be in the Balkans, and Doom himself is supposed to be a filthy gyppo. None of it works. That's not the story that fits Doom as is. "Doctor Victor Von Doom" should be an alias born from an unremarkable man's desire to be remarkable. Even as basic storytelling, Doom would be more effective in his plans if he used a moniker that couldn't be tracked. The mystery of who Doctor Doom is would be the type of upper hand anyone in Doom's position would actually need, until he consolidates power on a global scale. Something hard to do when you're just using your Social Security number everywhere...

Though I fear it may also be too engaging to the point you'd want this character type to be the hero of at least the protagonist of a book. I don't know how the hero or actual protagonist would compete. Doom being a charlatan in some regards fits him being the villain. But a Doom lead book with this kind of backstory I'd be down to read.
