I feel that after retiring Thanos, groundwork should have been laid to make Mephisto the next big cosmic threat. Someone who is not only a cosmic threat, but a threat on a conceptual level. He being an outside force pulling strings to cause more destabilization to the MCU and personal suffering to the heroes as a whole. Him becoming more active after Thanos delivered to him so many souls to his realm, only to be cheated and have them taken away by the Avengers.A slow build of horror of him appearing masquerading as other characters to push things along. A reveal of Tony Stark in the afterlife being tortured by him with Jacobs Ladder horror imagery shown.
