How can Transformers cartoons be "cool" again? I don't think they've been cool since the dubbing anime era.

No relationship drama or shipping, no gay characters, no "what if the villain was actually the hero?" twists, no using the cartoon as a vehicle to write about social or political issues, only a small number of human characters, all human characters are passably attractive at worst, all Transformer characters to look like a toy people would actually want to buy, and to have a distinctive personality of their own. Make it action-heavy over plot-heavy, but with just enough lore to make it seem bigger and deeper than it really is.

Even though I found Armada, Energon, and Cybertron's designs a bit busy and the CG animation a bit clunky, I'd rather watch those or ANY Japanese TF show over most of the recent western shows like Animated, Prime, and EarthSpark. Sadly, the only non-Japanese TF show I really liked was Beast Wars, but it's too much trouble to expect modern westerns showrunners and writers to match or top that show.Also, I feel a back-to-basics approach would be a good idea. Not just in the story and tone, but also the character design philosophy. OP's pic and Bayformers had way too much clutter in the designs. Cool, streamlined designs are possible without going overboard with too many extra details.
