What can marvel even do at this point
>>
>>152799412
Make people even madder?
>>
>>152799412
They can start by firing Cebulski, Lowe and Brevoort.
>>
>>152799412
Nothing, really. The strength of Marvel lies in monthly issues that sometimes coalesce into solid runs, but are difficult to compile.
>>
Public executions would be a decent first step.
>>
>>152799412
Now what would this list read like if it included manga?
>>
>>152799412
Marvel is just mutantslop and spiderslop. Has been ever since Hickman permenantly fucked the continuity with his doomwank and then mutantwank.
>>
>>152799412
Shit on Mary Jane more?
Cuck Peter Parker more?
Push Norman more?
Shill Miles more?
>>
>>152799412
They will just make more Symbiote and Mutant books.

Because that is literally all Marvel knows how to do at this point.
>>
>>152799686
This
Marvel works best in a state of putting out consistent 7-8/10 issues for years on end and as a result giving he readers a stable and enjoyable time which they will keep coming back to.
Now currently the only books able to pull that off have been PKJ's Hulk run, and Ewing's Thor, but that's another story.
>>
>>152799939
You're brown
>>
>>152799412
>one world under doom
It seems like their solution is publishing more doctor doom
>>
time to put Mariko Tamaki on Spiderman or X-men. that would get those books in the top 10 tpbs
>>
>>152799412
>sales
I don't see any sales figures here, neither unit sales nor dollar sales figures.
All I see is a meaningless ranking. For all I know, Absolute Batman Vol. 2 Abomination only sold 3 copies while the remaining 19 titles sold 0 copies
>>
>>152799412
A lot of their problems are editorial. People might gripe over specific writers, artists, and series, but evidently the entire publishing line is underperforming. That can't be pinned on any one writer or artist. The senior editors have to be held responsible.
>>
>>152799686
>but are difficult to compile.
Not sure if retarded or just prete- nah, you're retarded.
>>
>>152799412
Stop with the MCU synergy and take bold creative swings. The MCU is in a regressive state and using it as the base for the Comic Marvel Universe is not a good idea. Editors need to get it together or be fired. Probably listening to what people want will help too AKA Marry Peter and MJ would help too.
>>
>>152800071
Peter should've retired and ridden off into the sunset with MJ during the clone saga. It's his own damn fault for not quitting when the quitting was good.
>>
>>152800085
Yes, it's the fictional character's fault and not the retarded writers and creators.

What went so wrong with Absolute GL and Flash compared to the Trinity and Martian Manhunt?
>>
>>152800409
AMM scratches the Vertigo itch, Jo is black, and Lemire is past his prime
>>
>>152799412
Marvel's trade sales have never been the strongest. Back before 2018 when DC was routinely either #1 or #2 western publisher in bookstore trades sales alongside Scholastic, Marvel was routinely out of the top 5 below Image, Simon & Schuster, Penguin Random House, and others.
>>
>>152799412
Public hanging of editorial staff
>>
>>152799955
Doomwank will be more present than ever for the next few years for MCU synergy.
>>
>>152799943
So they need to make a Symbiote Mutant book.
>>
>>152799412
These are all terrible books, by the way.

Venom could have been good if it was just mj and dylan. PAUL was a drag on the book and it still baffles me they have kept him around for so long. Mj has history with venom thats not getting explored enough an i wonder if it's because of the marriage. Venom terrorized them in the early years of the marriage im not sure that MJ they have develope post OMD, sans spencer, would have stuck around during that period. Im sure they will retcon it so she actually did leave him and then he fucks black cat.
>>
>>152800629
Yeah and around like 2020 or thereabouts Marvel was no longer significantly charting on the Top 750 (like maybe one Marvel book published by Marvel itself charted) on Bookscan so they were no longer in the top 10

They mostly get by on omnibus sales which is why you see people push them
>>
>>152799953
Why does that make him brown.
>>
>>152799412
Quick make more characters black and gay
>>
>>152802445
They should hire some artists as editors.
>>
>>152800409
Flash is the slowest book alive; and Green Lantern was too obtuse until issue 6, only picking steam once Tomar-re appeared.

This thread is really underselling the format of DC's Compact comics lines, which is 30% of this chart.

formats can not stay static over a century. society changes, capitalism evolves.
Floppies just don't work anymore for comics. They only work if they're cheap and they're not anymore.
Trades are fine and your best option if want nice preservation of the art... but they're still bigger than most mass produced literature
And then you have your Omnibuses and Treasury Editions and whatnot -- those are too big and unwieldy and only for the most hardcore.

Pocket sized, digest sized is where it's at. Smaller in size, cheaper in cost, easier for a casual to make impulse buys.
Manga has done it forever.
Archie did it forever.
Marvel and DC *USED TO* do it in the 60s and 70s, I don't know why they stopped.

Marvel (or Disney or PRH) are fucking up Marvel's version of the Compact line, but I'm glad the idea catching on. Oni and IDW have started it.
It's the future of the American comics hobby for 2026 and forward.
>>
you know what they also used to do
Anthologies
>>
>>152805585
>Marvel (or Disney or PRH) are fucking up Marvel's version of the Compact line, but I'm glad the idea catching on.

I feel like this is a Marvel issue
They had the Mighty Marvel Masterworks and prior to that have published comics in that small size. But for some reason they just lack the push that DC Compact got

OP's list is the Top 20 sold at comic shops, but they also have a Top 100 for that month for subscription

3 of Marvel's Premier Editions managed to chart, but the highest ranking one was Old Man Logan at #63 (DD Born Again was #67 and Civil War was #68. The others if they sold at all in February, ranked lower than #100)
>>
>>152805585
PRH?
>>
>>152806250
Penguin Random House
>>
>>152800071
>Stop with the MCU synergy and take bold creative swings.
They're not even good at that, they have a one-shot about Shalla-Bal Silver Surfer from FF First Steps coming out a year after the movie.
>>
>>152800005
Marvel is only going to start cleaning house editorially when Marvel Films or Disney start realizing that the comics haven't given them anything good to adapt in over decade.
>>
>>152806255
Ah i c thank you
>>
>>152806316
Why would they care about quality? The only storylines they’ve ever adapted were all shit, especially as comics
>>
>>152805506
>>152805538
The more books people bring up the more it seems that its really more of a X-Office & Spider Office issue outside of books that last less than 10 issues.. Which is a shame since they are the flagships of the company.
>>
>>152805585
>DC is praised for having affordable trades
>marvel copies them but fucks it up and makes them 15 dollars, just a couple dollars under new DC tpb prices
>also the covers look like shit

Marvel deserves shitty sales

I think the "muh high prices" or "muh floppies" is a red herring.
Sure having better quality books for better prices would improve sales... but I don't think it's really these things that are the main reason for comics doing poorly.
Kids today spend like $20 a day to roll a dice for a cosmetic hat in a videogame, you really think they can't dish out that same $20 for a comic book? But of course no kid is buying a comic book, not because they're $20, but because they don't want them. You could give them to them for $1 they wouldn't buy it. They want a cosmetic skin in their videogame, they don't want your comic book.
>>
SIKTC is the new Saga huh

>Marvel works best in a state of putting out consistent 7-8/10 issues for years on end
This has never happened in the history of Marvel.
>>
>>152807794
It absolutely did in the 60's and the 80's, but basically never outside of that.
>>
>>152807809
It's happening right now with half of their line
>>
Marvel just has to wait until DC inevitably fucks Absolute up.
>>
>>152799412
They could give up. That's always an option.

>what can marvel do
literally anything than what they're doing right now

-start retiring characters
especially couples. peter parker / mary jane, cyclops / jean grey, they could all fuck off and take a break

-b and c listers should have a greater role
venom is eddie, and he should be guest starring in different comics and have a mini series every few months. punisher and x-23 teamup series where they stop trafficking and pedo rings. bring back midnight sons.

-mutant changes
reboot to just before bendis. stop the bullshit with evil beast. drop cyclops, wolverine, jean grey and emma frost because they suck up too much space. forge should be the leader of his own team of cyborgs and A.I.

-clean house
literally anything different, with real writers who give a shit about the characters

alan moore can write midnight sons, that fucker loves magic shit. let gaiman write something because he's good at it. remender is busy doing his own stuff but he can be brought on board for something. mike carey is excellent. marjorie liu should be finished or finishing monstress soon
>>
>>152809904
Alan Moore will never work with Marvel you idiot.
>>
>>152809950
OP asked a question, i gave several answers. i know full well what alan moore things of comics but he's still a good writer and has a different perspective than the shitters writing for marvel at the moment

alan moore on his own could save marvel, and it would show everyone the humble pie marvel should be eating. if he refuses fine, but marvel will definitely fail if it doesn't even have the balls to ask the old fuck if he wants to right about characters that deal with magic
>>
>>152809904
even psychic mutants including xavier could be on midnight sons because psychic powers fit with occult stuff
>>
>>152810027
This isn't about Alan Moore and comics in general, this is about Alan Moore refusing to work with Marvel specifically because he didn't get his paycheck from the back in the 1980s for something he did, it's a matter of principle.
>>
>>152810081
>>152799412

okay so marvel should fucking pay alan moore what marvel owes
>>
>>152799412
Marvel's trade sales have always been shit.

After DC started pumping out OGNs around 2010 (Earth One, Canary/Zatanna, Get Jiro, etc), marvel responded by pumping out shittier OGNs with Season One and shit like Starlin's Thanos trilogy and Peter's long lost sister.

The best selling ones did mediocre even in comparison to their usual trades so marvel never tried it again.

Marvel doesn't even pay the creators they have good relationships with.
>>
>>152799412
God damn you can’t even blame this on marvel having no evergreen graphic novels, they literally just don’t produce shit that can potentially interest new readers. They also do nothing but constantly push away old readers as well, so they have nothing to sell to anyone frankly.
>>
>>152810081
Apparently according to Brevoort Alan Moore and he were talking at a party and Brevoort was trying to get him to write the FF Moore said he had a few ideas for Ant man but apparently marvel didn’t have the budget to justify hiring Moore for an antman book. Which does seem all sorts of retarded

Give Paul Rabin his own comic and it'll be the first comic to sell one trillion copies.
>>
>>152810986
To be specific it would sell a Morbillion which means it would flop. So yes I want this so Marvel can die faster.
>>
>>152809904
>drop Wolverine entirely and retire Peter Parker
You realize this would be tantamount to sales suicide, right?
>>
>>152809904
>venom is eddie
Agent venom is the only time I gave a fuck about the character and off course fucking Bendis came to ruin it.
>>
why do you care which corporation outsells the other ?
>>
>>152799412
Was Ewing just a one hit wonder with Immortal Hulk?
>>
>>152813348
Well Immortal Hulk is garbage so... no.
>>
>>152810979
Brevoort did have the budget to do an Ant-Man series with Kirkman a few years later so Moore was probably asking for a massive page rate as a soft no.
>>
>>152799415
Yeah that'll do.

This guy >>152809904 is cooking, retiring characters people like (again) would definitely work, if they first get people back to caring enough.
>>
>>152810986
Only if there are sex scenes between him and MJ
>>
>>152799412
It is crazy, because the absolute line sucks and is the definition of brainless. (Except MM, which is still a bit overrated). It shouldn't be surprising though, cape comics require some degree of arrested development.

I guess it is good people are getting into the classics with compact though.
