I finally figured out why the later seasons of the Boys rubbed me the wrong way. The show kept trying to have "cool" fight scenes.In the first two seasona and the comics, there were no "cool" action scenes. They were brutal one sided beat downs. In fact they were not even "fights", they were just straight up executions. And whenever it seemed as if it was leading up to a "hype aura moment", it gets cut short with a horrific murder (See: what happened to the G-Men).It showed violence for what it was: disgusting, horrific, a blight to the human eyes. My personal interpretation was The Boys shedding a light on how objectively insane it is to regularly consume media where people in bright colorful costumes keep hurting each other.It also works incredibly well for the parody aspect of the Boys. If the Avengers have these flashy high octane hero vs villain battles, the Boys would counter that with uncomfortable torture scenes and brutal murder. The final climax for Season 1 was a tense suspenseful verbal confrontation where nobody was safe. Then comes Seaosn 3's finale where the heroes and villains temporarily set aside their differences to fight a bigger threat and theres an epic heroic sacrifice at the end and blah blah blah. Like dude. Come on. LAME.
