What the fuck OP I was literally just thinking about this character like an hour ago.
I think there's a relationship. Like how often you'll see the main cast of a cartoon have pretty restricted sexuality, but then some one shot or background character will look like a hentai design. The background characters just have less oversight so the artists are free to do what they'd do naturally. Same to with a "spaghetti against the wall" film.
