I’ve seen some people call the Flash “DC’s Spider-Man” in terms of tone, characterization and the overall vibes of their adventures. Do you guys think it’s an apt comparison?
>>
>>152804433
I kind of see it but mostly from a tone standpoint
>>
>>152804433
It's a marketing thing, because at the time someone was trying to push Flash as their Spider-Man
>>
I've only heard so from tertiaries trying to justify spider-verse and legacies.
>>
>>152804433
Fuck no. The people who say this are refering to thise few ironic times where Flash is so busy doing the heroic thing that he ends up being late for real life stuff. Flash is more like the Hulk or Tony. First and foremost is his brain. He's a fucking genius who thinks ten times faster than eveeryone else. Its his powers that get in the way of this.
>>
>>152804433
Not really.

>>152804676
Yes, DC had multiple attempts of a "DC's Spider-Man"; Firestorm, Kyle Rayne, Jaime's Blue Beetle, returned!Barry, Sideways, etc...
>>
>>152804433
No, those types of comparisons are always made by people that watch cartoons or YouTube summaries of comics rather than comics themselves. They're looking for info to regurgitate to friends before the next movie
>>
>>152804433
No, not really. Maybe Wally in a certain way, a young guy growing into being a hero but even then there are far more differences than similarities.

probably unpopular opinion but 90s robin gave me the closest spiderman vibes from dc. He had a notable problems with balancing his life, an underdog feel for constantly swinging above his weight, bad luck, and was pretty introspective about his situation, responsibilities, goals, etc. It's kinda preachy and lame at times and certainly doesn't reach as high but there's a similar taste until you see clear changes in writers and the direction
>>
>>152805223
Barry from Snyderverse was pushed as the Spider-Man of the bunch.
>>
>>152804433
They're both templates for their publishers. It's not obvious because DC fans get hung up on the Trinity of Alien, Detective, Magic but the Flash (either) is part of the actual fabric of the DCU, from being the linchpin to the multiverse to causing his own existence to becoming a literal law of physics unto himself. He's the one Superboy Prime shits himself in fear of. Dan Didio looked at Wally and said "You must go" to which Wally replied "Who must go?"
Spidey for his editorial faults sets the pace for what being a hero in the MCU means: endless sacrifice, perseverance, wit in the face of impossible odds, and spectacular feats.
They're complementary archetypes but it doesn't matter if the public never sees this.
>>
>>152805490
Wally is bullshit incarnate, people talks about Superman, Wally is the one even Kami Tenchi fears pissing off because he doesn't know what he can do with the shonen hero bullshit asspulls if someone ever threats his family.
>>
>>152805785
Wally is to Barry what Barry is to you or me. He is in every sense Japanese level OP and yet writers still manage to put him in a pickle.
>>
>>152804433
I'm mostly casual cartoons watching faggot and my perception of Flash is that he almost none of the secret identity teen life/ighschool then college shit that Peter has at all. I dont know how accurate that is because I'm a casual and all. Terry seemed like the most Spiderman like they ever got. And he is better than Miles which is ironic.
>>
>>152806267
>I don't read comic books but let me participate ITT
>>
>>152806280
Alright sorry I'll just make a loli furry pedo big breast giant tushy efit cum horny post or a twitter screenshot or just a green text with nothing but an insult like you next time. Fucking faggot. My point was even casaulfags dont see him as Spiderman.
>>
>>152804433
Ant-Man actually is.
>Pym Particles = Speed Force
>>
>>152804433
youn college age peter interacting with wallyflash before the kids would be cool. yea sure i say why not

Wally has a few similarities that are interesting to look at in hindsight
>>
>>152808264
top kek
>>
>>152804433
No, Wally West is comparable

The Flash in general is not
>>
>>152807306
The atom is dc's Ant-Man, Identity Crisis was going to be his slap before the rewrites.
>>
>>152804433
It's more like the Barry Allen Flash is to the Peter Parker Spider-Man what Superman is to the original Captain Marvel.
>>
The few times I heard this, it tended to be described in how they handle their rogues. Not just killing them or trying to take them out, but reforming them or treating them as people.
>>
>>152804433
No, Spider-man is one of the most successful IP in the planet and Flash is a b tier property without success outside of comics.
>>
>>152804433
>Gained powers by science accident
>Later written to have a connection to a mysterious force
>Has lots of other people or family members with similar powers
>Villains are mostly "I'm gonna rob a bank" guys but a few are real vicious
>Has an evil counterpart with a personal vendetta
>Travels the multiverse
>Died several times and replaced but he's better now
>>
>>152804433
They're both boring and poorly written. So yeah, it's a good comparison.
>>
>>152804433
Horrible comparison. There is no Spider-Man equivalent!
>>
>>152808868
That's not the point anon...

>>152804433
>>152809473
Yeah, that's one of the reason why it's so difficult to have good Spider-Man stories nowadays. Marvel doesn't understands its own character. They try to copy things that they think are cool. No, Spider-Man was cool because in many ways he was original. So original that he had no true equivalent

He was inspired by a pulp character like batman was inspired by the shadow.
>>
>>152810150
The Spider, lmao. I'm aware of him. Probably just the spidersense, according to Stan Lee. But I don't believe everything he said.
While Jack Kirby was working the idea of a young spider superhero, the character was a mix of Green Lantern and Captain Marvel. Then that was scrapped, and Steve Ditko helped to flesh out, and probably even change completely, the character. Ironically, he was a fan of pulp stories, and his teacher was Batman artist Jerry Robinson. And I feel some themes and elements of Batman present in Spider-Man, but still not enough to call him an equivalent. He was a very original superhero, and not just the relatable part
>>
>>152804433
No because Wally was actually able to stay married.
>>
>>152810251
how exactly do you define equivalent?,because it seems that you're asking for a carbon copy straight out of the Spider-Verse that somehow predates spider-man/peter parker as a concept. No character is Completely orignal nor is it unique. Before every character had a family or a multiverse counterpart which amounted to nothing more than a copy paste with a gimmick, artists used to mishmash different motifs and themes and brainstorm as they Go with it. and because the criteria for originality and creativity apparently keeps changing with the political/social climate I won't be surprised if 10 years from now someone like miles morales will be seen as a Completely "orignal" just as long as you memoryhole his initial humble beginnings under bendis ultimate run.
>>
>>152810324
I'm not talking about carbon copies. What I'm talking about are similarities, and things that make people say
>wow it's kinda like this other thing
So many core aspects of Peter can't be find on other characters. Unlike them, he didn't create an avalanche of tropes that now people use when creating new characters. Being young, something that stopped decades ago, and poor aren't good examples, that's too generic. I'm very tired right now so I'll not write a deep analysis about him, but he's that original. Or specifically, was
>and because the criteria for originality and creativity apparently keeps changing with the political/social climate
Peter's uniqueness isn't affected by this. I think that it's something universal, it will be true in any kind of situation that sentence is implying. Webshooters and web constructs aren't political

Spider-Man is inspired by a 50's Halloween costume that Jack Kirby designed for the Ben Cooper costume company. That's why Spider-Man has a hyphen. Ditko even referenced this in a story where Peter needed a new costume and just bought one from a store.

Eric Stanton, Steve Ditko's perverted buddy, probably influenced him as well. Spider-Man is a beautiful, disastrous, and partially undocumented mishmash of ideas.
>>
>>152808264
Not pictured: the massive success of Spider-man across mediums like TV, movies and videogames that put him as one of the most recognizable superheroes.

Most of them reinforcing all the mistakes pictured there.
