Why

I haven't seen this movie in years but I remember only liking it up until they actually got to Madagascar. I liked the 2nd movie more, only saw the 3rd one once but I remember it being okay.

i didnt even know there was a third movie?
i know there was a penguins series and movie because i had the game for gameboy and it was really fucking good.

Speaking of the penguins, I find it interesting how the personalities of them soldifies from the second movie onwards (2nd movie released in 2008, 3rd in 2012), and how this coincides with the production of the series The Penguins of Madagascar (2008-2015), where all their personalities are well defined since chapter 1. The question is: Does the writters began to develop this characters for the second movie, and then passed this ideas to the series; or were first coinceived for the series, and then passed to the movie sequel; or it was simultaneous?

The third one is the funniest of the three, but also the one with the most absurd scenes.

I’m guessing because it’s from the creators of Shark Tale.

Yup, that’s probably who the OP is.

Nah, they had the general idea about their personalities from the very start, as you can see in the ship takeover scene where they don't act that much different compared to their appearances in later films and the TV show. They truly solidified their personalities and gimmicks in the 2005 Christmas special "The Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper" where they were given the center stage and more time to shine and show their full range. Generally most if not all of their traits were present in that short and were carried over to the films and the show, from them stacking to masquerade as humans to their HQ bellow their platform at the Zoo. I mean, you could say that, theoretically, the Show inspired the Films since Dreamworks tends to use these holiday shorts as unofficial pilots for their upcoming shows, a recent example is "The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday" being a pilot for the "Bad Guys: Breaking In" show that released three months after the second film.

Would recommend it, it's a wonderful show, it has a similar energy to PoM with how it's half a heist show and other half is just the gang doing regular slice of life stuff, it's quite fun.

The first Madagascar has definitely aged well, but I remember always loving that 2nd one too.

We can all at least agree it still stands as one of DreamWorks's strongest, most consistent film series in terms of quality.

The second movie has the best comedy. Truly some absurd shit.
