it wasn't anywhere near as funny and the meta story elements were ass. it isn't comparable to the first at all.

Wrong. LEGO Movie 2 was still really fun. It's just hard to live up to what the first film had already achieved, but I think they made it work just fine

Nah, cope

I think it was kind of screwed by the meta reveal of the first movie. Because the reveal of the humans was a twist that recontextualized everything that was happening in the movie. It was unexpected but gave the movie a greater emotional high. It turned it into an allegory, essentially, for a man and his son.
The second movie can't follow up on that, because you already know that everything is an allegory. The twist is done. So they either have to double down on the humans, in which case it doesn't hit as hard because you see it coming and it's re-treading ground, or ignore them completely, in which case it becomes an elephant in the room. There's no solution to that.

The first time I watched Lego Movie 2, I was so used to masked badasses being revealed as girls that I didn't even realize that it was supposed to be a twist.
What does that tell you, hmm?

Its a Gnostic and Christian movie regarding the establishment of the New Covenant. Will Ferrel is God the Father, he demands absolute compliance from his subjects, His Creation will be absolutely perfect, He is simply finishing his project to revoke the free will from His Creation that would prevent this perfection. The wages of sin against this are death. However, His Son, fully human, in His infinite sympathy, writes Himself into that Creation by playing a character who is also fully Lego. He lives through His life equal to others and oppressed, until one day He awakens to a sense of freedom the world suddenly wants to destroy Him over. He travels the world accumulating followers, both zealous and reluctant. He is brought to the top of the world in His attempt to destroy the cosmic item that brings the fear that destroys souls and destroys free will. In doing this, He falls off the side of the world, and sees briefly the plane above, Apotheosis, Gnosis. He sees His own divine face in the Son of the Creator (who is a Creator Himself) and witnesses this divinity treat directly with god His Father, communicating through His lived suffering experience in Creation that life and free will itself IS the purpose of Creation.so long as we remember that, we are saved. God the Father is moved, and forever forward He loves His Creation as He loves His own Son. Go forth my little Lego flock, and prosper as you will

Most everything.
It's a good movie that /co/ threw a bitchfit over cause they instantly thought they knew what the whole story would be when thery clearly didn't.

I don't think you need live-action scenes explaining the metaphor when everything's already been established in the first movie. Even a 12 year old could figure out what the Systar System is meant to represent
