It's been long enough that we can give honest opinions now.

Was it REALLY that bad?
>>
It was shot heard around the world as far as beanmouth discourse goes.
>>
>>152817518
>>152817483
the real damage was all the animation industry sycophants taking to tumblr and twitter implying they'd blacklist aspiring artists and creators who were making fun of this show

It had some good qualities that people are not willing to admit but from a writing standpoint it was kind of rocky.

Unlike the 2011 series, Roar was too beholden to the 80s series without having much to really say.

https://youtu.be/VsaBrSgnQaU?si=Yw4Jric45eMzwRiF

It getting Thanosed is a tragedy.
>>
Yes, it's retarded shit.
>>
A thread died for this
>>
Better animation/softer writing than TTG!
>>
>>152817612
Starting to lie that bean mouth doesn’t exist was the bigger problem
>>
>>152817633
I wish they had tried to make the words rhythm like a song cause the music itself is nice
>>
>>152817612
People literally fight over the death in support of beanmouth, it's odd and I don't get it. Are people such big industryfags that they'll do that unironically still? It's long over stayed it's welcome at this point.
>>
Pretty sure this was the show that broke the camel's back an started the anti bean mouth discussion, so yes it was bad.

Narratively it makes sense that the rhyming scheme is slightly off.
>>
>>152817809
People were already tired of beanmouth, it's just that Roar was the one where they crossed the line by rebooting a generally appreciated old franchise to use the style. It led to a lot of anger and a lot of parodies of "what if X cartoon got rebooted in the same way? That would be retarded!" art.

I thought it was alright, would've been better with another art style but it was a decent Thundercats comedy
Also I found the people saying "this shit is awesome you're just salty lol" super cringe because it's early cancellation proved it wasn't fucking awesome
>>
>>152817612
It was less making fun of the show and more harassing the workers on that show, which people did. There's a difference.

But everybody on both sides of the argument took things too far.

>>152817735
It's unfortunate TTG hijacked and killed this show's reputation. Its "crossover" is more known than the actual show.
>>
>>152817821
It does but it keeps it from being something I'd actually want to listen to by itself
I dunno this is probably just autism

>You like Thundercats? Here's a new Thundercats, it's a gay comedy cartoon with shitty art!
>You don't like it? Well, actually it's not for you [fans of thundercats], it's for a new audience!
>Thundercats was never good! It was a shit show, this is totally an improvement!
>Wait, why isn't anyone watching?
I blame execs honestly, they can't make a new franchise, so instead they just do this same song and dance with whatever franchise from decades ago they dig up, Roar was the sign of things to come.

Reminds me a lot of Monkey Magic
Although I agree with the other anon because the words not rhyming makes me mad
>>
It was a very, very thinly-veiled attempt by CN to outright clone the success of Teen Titans Go, by way of turning and older show into a farcical comedy. There is not really much to say beyond that. It was a cynical, corporate-mandated show. It failed. That's about all.
>>
Best part of the show is when they got the original voice actor for Lion-O to say "poop mouth" like it was a big zinger against the detractors.

I like how each time Mandora showed up she became more and more antagonist. It's like the opposite of her original incarnation which is kinda funny.
>>152817878
Tcats Roar is like Concord, WB's confidence in it went full 180 so they scrubbed it from existence.

It's narratively important that the song doesn't rhyme, it's an intentional musical choice. It's funny though because I never noticed that it didn't rhyme.

I don't know if it's that narratively important but I do realize it's an intentional choice.
Post more songs from the show

A cartoon would be cool. Buffy had those cool comics but it's been a silent franchise for a while now. They should release a video game or something.

Most aren't as well produced as the Grune one (because Thundercat, the bassist, was involved with that song specifically). A lot of them are just kind of silly. Most is lost, but a fan uploaded some of the song to thier youtube channel:

Also, Shinsei Kamattechan - drugs, Neko was the original theme song of the show:

This abomination should be entirely forgotten except in marketing case studies of how to drive a popular trend into the ground.

I never watched it, maybe it would have been up my alley? Though I love the screenshots from the TTG crossover where classic Liono is giving TCR his blessing, thought that was really funny

Kind of funny they got Thundercat to make a song for this show. I think he voiced Grune too.

I hope one day he can properly release the Grune song he made for the show, but it's probably tied up in legal BS. Maybe he can sing it at some live shows or something, idk.

>>152820488
Apparently this shot was animated by the show runner (guy with the palmtree hair)
>>
>>152817483
Realtalk it could've worked if it wasn't "Thundercats". It had the bones to be fine, and the zany animation to work as a cartoon, but instead they decided to kick Thundercats and the TC fanbase (what's left of it) while it was down after the previous one got mercy killed, meaning not only was it """catering""" to a dying fanbase that wouldn't touch it with a 100-foot pole, but Thundercats itself was completely out of normalfag appeal, so the only people that bothered to watch it were the people that unironically enjoy the whole "CalArts beanmouth infantile" look and had no prior attachment to Thundercats.
>>
>>152817483
The show was obviously made because they were going to lose the rights to thundercats if they didn't do anything with it, and rather than go with the anime style of its last adaptation they just shit the bed.
>>

Roar should have been a retelling of the original series told from the Mutant's perspective. Roar defiantly seemed more interested in the Mutants as characters, and the humor and art direction of the show fit the vibe of those characters better.

It's pretty telling that in Roar, the Mutants have a more visceral and lasting reaction to their home world getting destroyed than the Thundercats did for Thundera.

It was no worse than most things CN had been churning out. It just came at a time when emotions were high, fans were still sore over the last show, animator and media smugness was at its peak, and everyone was already sick of the style. This became the straw that broke the camel's back, as it were.
Strip away all of those external factors, and what you have is a school play that was taken over by the gay theater kids who genuinely wanted to entertain everyone, thought everyone loved them and that they had the best ideas ever, but ended up putting on a lame show and were a bit embarrassed about it. That's all.
No harm was meant, and there was no agenda. Frankly, after disasters like TT Looniversity, my feelings about Roar have actually softened.
>>
>>152820934
Was TT Looniversity really that bad?
>>
>>152817483
The only thing it had going for it was the animation got really smooth.

Other then that it was another tumblr show that got shot in the head with TTG crossover fora saving throw.

Does anyone know the thought process behind so many of these 2010's shows having beanmouths and thin outlines? Shows with simple art styles existed before with PPG, Fosters, and FOP, but something about this specific art style seems seems forced compared to those shows.

Billy dilley´s = proto-amphibia and wasted potential
Penn zero, 7D = good shows
pig goat banana cricket = It was good at first, but it lost quality when Nick Cross left and the drop in animation was noticeable.

Riht now kapow = MAD Spiritual successor, meaning it's a good series

Future Worm! = Disney's Rick and Morty, without being tedious, is very underrated; in my personal opinion, it's the best of the best.

i dunno, i binged it years after the whole shitstorm and honestly it's really fun. not gonna say the artstyle's great or anything, yeah it sucks and it was just an attempt to make the TTG lighting strike twice but fuck it, the jokes are funny, action's surprisingly good it's got a lot of energy and even references obscure shit like tiger sharks. feels like no one gives it a chance just 'cause of the baggage. hell it's not as nauseating to watch as TTG in my opinion
>>

1985 Panthro
>Doesn't have much going for him narratively, but he's a reliable sidekick character with a cool car, a cool theme and has some cool action moments. Physically the strongest of the group. Also voiced by Earle Hyman.

2011 Panthro
>Doesn't have much going for him narratively and is a less than reliable mentor character. Betrayed by his boyfriend and got his arms cut off and replaced with robot arms. Basically Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop.

Roar Panthro
>Action mad scientist who builds vehicles and mechs. Working on his chiroptophobia by fucking his bat queen girlfriend. Almost crushed Third Earth with the moon, but not really.

TTG Panthro
>He's dead.

Why did Michael Jelenic (the creator of TCats 2011 and TTG) hate Panthro so much?
