Ratatouille is a hard movie to like. It's got too much of a high opinion of itself, yet it's a heavily flawed movie. This is why humble writing is important in animation. Audiences embrace and connect more with humble films. They don't like that feel of pretentiousness while at the cinema

when did arnold say that

I notice that audiences really like films like Encanto, Despicable Me or Frozen. Their popularity is not only because of the merchandise appeal or songs, but also because they're very humble and easygoing. They don't have a self important tone like Ratatouille does

It's honestly crazy that they got away with having Arnold say this back then.

Even Bird seems to acknowledge that he sorta missed the mark with Ratatouille, since he hasn't directed more original animation films since. Even if you like the film, it's hard to deny that it's easily Bird's weakest animation screenplay. It's not nearly as tight or well written as Iron Giant and Incredibles' screenplays. Lots of awkward interactions and not particularly funny jokes
