The original Spider-Man trilogy was written from the pov of a child. He may be older than the other two but Tobey is way more childlike in the ways that matter. Perfect for a kid's movie franchise.The way he deals with guilt and his own flaws are more optimistic and more realistic than how an adult does it. Children can see things the way they really are. I see so many grown idiots saying he's not selfish even though that's his defining character trait and the driving factor for every Spider-Man story in film history. Besides across the spiderpuke I'm assuming. I haven't seen it but I know they want to subvert everything so they probably changed that too. Anyway as a child you don't think about how much worse other assholes in your life are and take comfort in being not that bad "relatively speaking". Kids don't know, nor do they care to know, the flaws of others. A child will identify his own flaws and feel guilty about them, but also recognize that they're a problem that can be solved. When Pete is in trouble with MJ his mind doesn't automatically go to how immature she is or how much good he has done and how he should deserve more. It's like he doesn't even know those things. He sees MJ as a perfect person because her faults aren't relevant to the issue at hand.(And because she's a beautiful woman inside and out, her "flaws" not mattering to him in the slightest. Like a child's first love.) He's on his own journey of growth and that's what the movies are about. He's able to recognize that he killed uncle Ben but also that he can redeem himself, which he succeeds in doing rather quickly. There's no hint of angst, just a desire to be more grown up.

Which kids will think is cool because an adult is doing it. If Tobey's Spidey saw the video essays of today he would think they're cool and right, because he's a kid. The saddest thing about video essayists is that they did once experience these films the right way. They knew when to use their suspension of disbelief. They knew that logic didn't need to exist. And they were willing to get over themselves for a few hours in order to put themselves in Pete's shoes and enjoy the film. But they don't remember any of this anymore and yet they still refuse to move on. Now, all they do is complain about the only thing they have in life. The thing they choose to focus their careers on. I hate seeing kids using pseudo logic instead of their hearts. Especially when thinking about something that's supposed to be only for them. Adults have no business dominating the discussion on children's movies. Especially not in spaces that kids use. And especially not when they're too retarded to even feel what the movie is trying to make kids feel.

They don't fucking understand the structure of the story.)Peter is not a man yet. The only reason they casted an adult was so the kids can have a good role model to look up to. Pete's mind might work like a child's, but the kids don't know that. They just think Pete is a cool adult who's approachable and easy to understand.That's why the mcu made the changes they did. They can't risk kids taking him seriously and learning morals. The responsibility lesson is the most important one in our lives and yet most adults don't know it.
