What was Envy's deal? Did she ever really like Scott? Did she just get a big head and decide he was lame? She seemed sweet enough at the start of their band
>>152839664Well, College does makes women go crazy sometimes. I think she was originally nice, but she found something that made her want to embrace a cool rocker girl lifestyle and Scott got caught in the crossfire.
>>152839664She changed prioties and she shed her nerd lifestyle. I think you are supposed to consider the fact she was always in love with Todd so she stole the band as an excuse to get closer to him once she realised that she never actually loved Scott the same way he loved her
>>152839664scott was the placeholder for her childhood best friend not being there. i dont think she truly loved him, as she doesn't return his 'i love you'.i think envy was one of those people who are only nice because they are too powerless to get away with being assholes. and once she was able to get away with being awful, she went for it. the discord mod archetype of human.
>>152839813She probably banned so many people on anime forums.
>>152839664I think it's kind of obvious that she did like Scott, they just had different priorities and it pulled them apart. Envy wanted to be a big star and it gradually changed her into a completely different person. Scott just wanted to play in a casual band with his friends (which he continues doing once they split.) They just weren't the same people anymore. And even after that, I still get the sense that Envy's not entirely sure if she made the right decision. While Scott was devistated by their breakup, Envy certainly gained a bunch of baggage from it as well.
>>152839843We only see Scott's side to the story, we never know the damage he did to her but even if she's ultimately more in the wrong, Scott was an ass and probably hurt her bad too, he just refuses to acknowledge it
>>152839787That's sad. I never considered her using the band to get to Todd.>>152839813That makes sense. Pages like >>152836812 make me think she did like him to a fair degree, at least at one point. I would melt if a girl said that to me. She's an evil bitch for sure, but it's still sad she simped so hard for Todd and got screwed over in return.I'm glad I found these threads. I saw the movie when I was a 5th grader, so I feel I'm plugging up an important hole now.

>>152841830Which explains why Todd gets with Wallace in SPTO. Wallace was the only guy who could hit it as good as her.

>>152841861Don't you mean Luke Wilson?
>>152841883He just wanted to have an on-set fling. He still meets Mobile at the end of the series.
>>152841883Wallace could have a preference for standard guys like that, but going based on the movie he's got an attraction to male movie stars. He wanted to have Lucas Lee's "adopted babies" from that one line in the film.

You can hear it at 2:24 on>https://youtube.com/ve-SiqRYLXMAs far as I know, I am the only person that has ever been aware of this at any point besides BLOM and this has never been pointed out by anyone other than me. It is the single most useless fact I know. I'm telling you this because this storytime comes along every year and it goes unnoticed, which bugs me for some insane reason.
>>152841861Lee abandons acting and becomes a barista. Its also implied that he and Kim will get together, which is a good trade off.Best ex with best girl.
>>152837154>Male friendship is like:
Scott's mom is just old Kim.
>>152839664They start at the same point. Losers who do nothing with their lives except escapism. After tasting some success, Envy changes and desires more, so she starts working for it. Scott stays the same, just playing for fun and not wanting to commit. This is why Envy eventually takes over the band. Scott refuses to find a real path in life and is left behind by Envy. All this added to the fact that Envy was waiting for Todd to come back to her life, means that the relationship was gonna implode eventually. She was a total bitch about it though, and got her comeuppance. A shame Scott never got his.
>>152843870just a little bit
>>152839210You're thinking of Kim, anon.
>>152844198How do you think he ranks his experiences with them in his head? Who's number one, who's number three?
>>152846168Recency bias means Ramona comes out at number one, Scott has shit memory and probably barely remembers the other two.
>>152845447This is why takes off is good, Scott got what he deserved, to end alone and angry
>>152844198No he did not
>>152846707refer to>>152836757 Are there other characters named Monique and Sandra? If you're saying that Julie is just full of shit, yeah that's fair I guess, but Scott looked embarassed enough that something must have happened.
>>152846874One could also say they were misunderstandings
>>152845447>>152846670I think Scott is a deeply flawed character that is fun to follow, but people often ignore that most characters of this comic are also very flawed. Ramona is a huge bitch and has commitment issues, several characters are cheaters or go after people in relationships - like Holly, Stills or Wallace, Young Neil has his Neil of Darkness arc in the comic and etc. This is what makes following them fun, but also sort of grounded. Scott wanting to stay the same and never advancing with his life, is one of his biggest flaws - but not wanting to be a super star band with Envy is alright. Even with sex bob omb he didn't really want to pursue that, and in the end of the comic he is happy playing just with Kim in his free time. >This is why takes off is good, Scott got what he deserved, to end alone and angryThis entire comic is just Scott "getting what he deserves" by making he confront his flaws and try to change (and straight up getting into fist fights) - it's a very emotionally charged period of his life. Worth pointing out that the show implies that Ramona also had a hand into whatever caused their break (she never commiting and being affraid of facing her feelings).
>>152838176Really goes with the whole ryu and ken thing they got
>>152840011Scott is a lover, not a fighter, kind of.
>>152846300>Both experiences were actually really good and probably the best experience Sandra or Monique ever had with a guy>Hence, that's why Sandra and Monique both seem to have positive interactions with Scott when he runs into them>To this day, there's a low-level rivalry between about who actually was the better lay for Scott and they occasionally discuss this with each other>Scott has no recollection and Gideon has fudged up the memories to the point if he could remember anything it's that he was incapable of performing at all
>>152839137>Holly later offscreen stole Kim's boyfriend, finally breaking the girl downHolly, you are so extremelly hot, but man, do I hate you for fucking over the best girl
>>152846909>a spinoff of Scott's different kids time traveling back to a divergent point in time >he fathers a different one of them depending on which girl he gets with>They all have to fight each other to be the one that gets to exist
>>152847015I remember a manga with that plot. In the end, they just decided that they liked all the future kids too much to just pick one, so they just agreed to get impregnated on the proper order so they all would be born
>>152837897 This is actually really sad. I personally think the franchise should have ended with the original. But if they're going to expand on the original cast why not explore on how Nat seems to be an incredibly unhappy person and why.
>>152846911It's a shame Scott and Todd never made up later in the comic or anime. I think they would become friends (or at least friendly rivals) since they're on the same wavelength.
>>152844486Someone on reddit pointed it out too.
>>152846909I mean, it's okay if you wanna be a loser for the rest of your life. But then don't be surprised when your wife eventually leaves you. Ramona also is to blame, sure, but no one would really blame her considering how Scott didn't change at all post Even Older Scott fight. He still just daydreams about fights and gets home to play videogames. We don't even know where he works now. His place in the vegan restaurant is occupied by Todd. I bet he lied to Ramona about getting a job and just goes to Young Neil's room all day.
>>152847014It makes her decision to leave Toronto make a lot more sense when you consider that was probably the last friend she had that wasn't Scott or Ramona and life at that point probably felt pointless to spend a shitload of money to be around people who hate you or were unreliable and your band isn't even good enough to stick around.
>>152849678>Kim and knives had sexFanfiction
>>152838315>>152838330SoDo you guys think Scott learned about Envy's back of the knees weak points because she told him or by accident?

>>152849014>I mean, it's okay if you wanna be a loser for the rest of your life.By the end of the comic, Scott is trying to do something with his life (at least he got a job). What happened on the show is never made clear, but the CONSEQUENCE seems to be that it made Scott regress in development (and so did Ramona). In the same way that he retreated to where he lived, she retreated to running away, and never approached him again (despite still liking him, and wanting him to approach her).

>>152836247Was anybody here when this was being storytimed in the 2010s? I feel like it had way more engagement. And every other post wasn't about having sex with one of the side girls.
>>152850814In the 2010s, I wasn't here for the Scott Pilgrim storytimes but I was here for other comics and there was more engagement and discussion over elements of the comics that weren't purely horny or ragebaiting.
>>152837089Holy shit, are they playing Saturn Bomberman?
>>152837089Never noticed Envy is subtly calling Wallace a faggot here lmaoI wonder if she thought he and Scott were porking on the side
>>152837512I like the Chrono Trigger reference.
>>152850814it's a different world. Plenty of things in the comic are not looked positively. Maybe that's why Bryan wanted to do a reboot with he show. Also Bryan hates Scott nowadays so he refuses to give him character development. Feels like he also kinda hates Ramona too but won't dare to treat her harshly for fear of being cancelled. So both are stuck in limbo where they never change or evolve. And ironically, it feels like the whole band is stuck in that limbo as collateral of being Scott's group. Only the Exes are getting developed now.
>>152849948Ubisoft was the first game, the new one is by Tribute, the same people who made those TMNT games.
>>1528508144chan is dead. Everyone's on social media now.
>>152850814I'm rarely on /co/ and coming from /a/ I'm very pleasantly surprised at the actual discussion of the comic we are having here.
>>152839598ty OP, I've never read these in colour before.
>>152851668>>152851668>>152851668>Plenty of things in the comic are not looked positively.Besides Knives which can easily be fixed by aging her up a year or two what do people think is problematic about this series?> So both are stuck in limbo where they never change or evolveWhat crazy is the entire comic is about Scott embracing the fact that he needs to change. While most of the story is told from Scott's point of view that's definitely a big part of Ramona's character Arc as well. The real problem is that the original comic told a complete story plot wise and thematically and it doesn't need a sequel.
>>152852114 I come here maybe once a week now but I used to browse /co/ daily between 2014 to 2020. There's basically never any discussion about any comics besides Marvel and DC now. They don't even storytime the new Image and Dark Horse releases anymore just the popular stuff like Transformers TMNT and not even those sometimes.
>>152852244Ah that sucks, I only come here a few times a week to browse for storytime threads so I never noticed. Don't you guys have that weekly releases thread? I thought that would have been the place for discussion, but then again the /wsj/ thread on /a/ is a burning shithole everytime. It does feel like storytime threads across both boards have gotten much rarer than in the 2010s, then again the dedicated tripfags that used to do it on /a/ are mostly gone or at least abandoned their trips so it's to be expected
>>152852320Generals tend to attract shitposters, and /a/ is rife with that, especially for storytimes. I used to be part of the Pokemon Adventures storytime threads, and there was a ban-evading shitposter there that would post the volume out of order during the dump to confuse people. Regardless of how many times he'd get banned and his posts would get wiped, he'd evade and keep doing it. Eventually we decided to forego the yearly storytime for that, among other reasons. It just wasn't fun anymore.
>>152852182It's not about just aging her up so she can be sexualized. That wouldn't solve anything and would actually put a different target on BLOM back. But aside of that, there's also the fact that the comic is kind of ground zero for some problematic kind of people that now dominate society. The NEET who can't grow up despite being a loser and the bitch who thinks can get away with never taking responsibility for their actions. It's the two main characters that gave this saga such a bad reputation since the late 2010s because nowadays it's not rare to see yourself on the side of the exes after a bitch exactly like Ramona left you without even saying goodbye.
>not a single black person in the entire comic bookwhat is this nazi shit?
>>152852541>ban-evading shitposter there that would post the volume out of order during the dump to confuse peoplefuck some people deserve the rope, that is discouraging... The last few storytimes I've followed have gone pretty good (Holyland, Flame of Recca, Bugle Call), I guess I'm lucky I've been following less popular stuff that stays near the middle of the catalog, although some Mori haters did start shitting up the thread towards the end of Holyland. I wanted to do a Red Blue storytime myself but only have access to a PC for easy uploading a few times a week because of my job schedule so unless I'm missing some 4chan pass technique I don't think I ever will. I'm very grateful to anons like this thread's OP for taking the time to upload.
>>152852650>It's not about just aging her up so she can be sexualized.Besides her age I don't think there's anything what's wrong with her story? If the original comic ever got a real adaptation aging her up would be the only change you would need to make to her story. But I would prefer no changes at all if we ever get a real adaptation.>there's also the fact that the comic is kind of ground zero for some problematic kind of people that now dominate society. The comic is very open about the fact that both Scott and Ramona are "bad" people and treated their exes terribly. Scott and Ramona have basically the same character arc of realizing that they have treated the people in their lives poorly and that they need to change. The last volume is all about showing the beginning of that journey. What's funny is that all the sequels are all about people relearning that they need to change but never actually changing. So all the characters arcs have to be reset. So no matter how many times we revisit these characters they're always in the same place they were.
>>152852904I feel like making Knives 18 from the start defeats the point that she's young, idealistic, and has no idea she's being taken advantage of. Scott met her on her 17th birthday, and after she turned 18 Scott awkwardly proposed casual sex and/or a makeout session, but by then Knives has matured enough to realize how awkward it is, and was leaving for college soon. Her status as Scott's rebound girl was completely gone, and she was no longer an option that Scott could pursue, or someone that he could drag down.Making her 18 from the start and then 19 later kinda defeats the point.
>>152852904The comic isn't that open about how bad Ramona is. And in the end, none of the exes get any form of closure or redemption. Not even an acknowledge that Ramona was bad to them. The most we get is Gideon calling her out as being the common denominator on why all of them became assholes after she left them. And it's exactly the fact that all the exes have to be the sacrificial lambs in order for these two individuals who are just as awful, to get a second chance in life, what tastes bad in many people's mouth.I believe this is why both Takes Off and EX put way more emphasis on how the Exes move on and change for the better after they get their closure. This is why I believe Bryan hates Scott and Ramona nowadays. They're the only ones who never change. All the other exes are growing into better, more successful persons. And about Knives... it's not her story that's wrong. It's the age gap. That was always the problem. Not to me. I don't have any problem with it. I believe it's a non-issue. But apparently it's grounds for cancellation on the internet nowadays.
>>152853049I mean, so far the comic has been pretty open about it, it just doesn't harp on it. She used Patel to annoy/beat up a bunch of jocks. She dumped Lucas (who she doesn't seem to have really liked in the first place) for Todd, and she even lied about doing it. Kinda crazy how people somehow don't pick up on that
>>152853171>Lucas doesn't really give a shit about the League>When he meets Scott he reluctantly starts to fight before accepting a skateboarding challenge>He wasn't even in Toronto to challenge Scott, he was here to shoot a movie>Pays Ramona no attention>When Gideon thinks Ramona has abandoned Scott (like she did for everyone else) he tells Scott that makes him the newest member of the League>Scott just tells him to fuck off insteadSo why didn't Lucas tell Gideon to fuck off?
>>152853255maybe Gideon produces his movies or something. Scott literally has nothing to lose at any point besides Ramona, that's the perk of being gainfully unemployed and without ambition
>>152853049The comic is very explicit about how bad Ramona treats her exes and it only gets more explicit when it gets into the later exes who she dated as an adult. But Scott Pilgrim is about Scott and from his point of view so the majority of everyone else's character arc happens off panel. She even literally disappears from the story to come back further along her character arc.>>152853255The entire concept of the league is a plot device to have Scott and Ramona confront their past. None of them are real characters but that's okay because the comic is not about them. The story also makes a point to condone Ramona's behavior regardless of how bad the exes were on multiple occasions.
>>152838027>Kim now also calls her Rammylol
>>152853171I mean the comic does show you she was horrible, but it doesn't call her out on it. That's what I mean when I say it doesn't paint Ramona as "bad". Only Gideon did and that was the first time Ramona had to get defensive about it. That was the first time we learn that none of the exes were actually bad people before her, probably even including Gideon himself.>>152853639Yeah, that's the thing I mean. The comic doesn't develop the exes enough for them to feel like real characters, so all you know at the end is how awful Ramona was to them. I believe back in the day, this wasn't really a big deal, but nowadays people empathize more with them because being dumped by an irresponsible girl like Ramona is more and more frequent. The Lucas example above is interesting because, like that anon said, there was no reason for Lucas to accept Gideon's offer, other than he was genuinely hurt by how Ramona left him, which we see in the comic when he starts crying. Those panels alone make a lot of people empathize with Lucas nowadays, which is why he became one of the most liked characters after the show.
I've liked you for a thousand yearsA thousand yearsI've liked you for a thousand yearsA thousand years
If Scott doesn't actually improve himself for Ramona what the hell is the goddamn point of the story
>>152854338Good question. Most of it is spent with people getting pissed off at Scott. Both of his band members say they want to punch his life in the face.
>>152853255Because Lucas, like Kim, still has a distant longing for his ex. He can try to ignore it, he even says that the League nearly rejected him for not being obsessed enough, but he can't help but imagine that maybe, there's still a chance he can win her back. If everything goes right, maybe something will fix that hole that Ramona left behind. The whole comic is about how nobody can move on and everyone is coping with it in different ways, how do you guys miss this?
>>152854338Get to the end
>>152854104>probably even including Gideon himself. He had girls in ice before her
>>152836247This was the turning point in the series
>>152851668>Maybe that's why Bryan wanted to do a reboot with he show. Also Bryan hates Scott nowadays so he refuses to give him character development. Both false statements by the way. Bryan never hated Scott, at some point he thought he was too much of a wishfulfilment (for him), but that happened midway across the comic. The show is an alternate timeline, not a reboot, and was like that because the comic was too long to fit everything, and he also wanted to explore some characters that he didn't before.
>>152853049>The comic isn't that open about how bad Ramona is.The comic has Ramona deliberatly bumping into people to cause shit. Young Neil of all people call her a bitch for that.
>>152839813While she made herself think that she only ever loved Todd, it's clear that she really cared about her relationship with Scott and the break up messed her up just as much as it did him. When we see more of her side of the relationship later it is shown that Scott perception of events is heavily biased in his favor.
>>152854104Correct me if I'm wrong. It seems to me that you just dislike the fact that the story is told from Scott's point of view and literally every character besides Scott has most of their character arc take place off screen. I understand not liking this narrative style but when you say the story does not call out Ramona you are just wrong. The narrative never hides Ramona's bad behavior nor does it try to justify or explain it away.
>>152854104 Also I >>152858188really do appreciate the discussion that's what makes this site worthwhile.
>>152854338>for Ramonashouldn't he improve for himself and the friends he's had for years now before thinking about the girl he literally only met this year?
Scott pilgrim vs the world ruined a generation of menhttps://youtu.be/cJxgEHWGsfU
>>152854338So the main appeal of the story is definitely the vibe but by the end of the story Scott definitely does start to change.>>152858387It does suck that almost all of Scott's initiative to change comes from his relationship with Ramona. But when Scott and Ramona make the decision to change for each other they also accept that they might not work out. Doesn't that imply that the change is meaningful independent of their relationship with each other? I could definitely be giving a series I like the benefit of the doubt though. Did anyone else see that theme in the last volume?
>>152858387Well yeah, obviously, but if after the story ends he continues to be a loser and everything falls apart, that's really shitty and unsatisfying. What is the point of putting together a story about not being such a shitty guy if the guy in question doesn't learn anything? For context, I have never read the books until I found these threads the past week.
How many of Scott's kids would Roxxie have to have before she admits she's not just a lesbian?
>>152858783Just relax and read, nigga.
husband and wife.
>>152857457I like how Mobile and Wallace look like they'd be Japanese/Chinese lesbians here
>>152861282Based. The alternate future we deserve.
>>152858783The point is to be a cautionary tale. Don't be that guy. Don't date girls like that chick. Be a hard worker. Get yourself a hard working girl who won't accept you being a loser and would push you to be better. Never fear change or failure, be fearless. In other words, be like Gideon and Julie.
>>152858188Again, I don't say the story hides what Ramona did. It doesn't justify it either. But it doesn't call her out on it. And that's weird because I feel at least one ex should've done that before Gideon. I don't think there's a problem with how the story was told, I say there should've been more development on both sides so the reader doesn't feel like he's missing one side of the story. As I mentioned before, Lucas crying in that one panel is enough to tell me that I shouldn't simply accept Ramona's side of the story. And many felt this way, including BLOM himself, which is why he expanded the exes in the show and had Ramona humbled as well.
>>152854244I think the song is actually pretty good
>>152863222I think it's totally genius, in a minimalist sense. One phrase, and yet it doesn't get old. They're not a life-changing band but they've got a few fun songs like that
>>152860026I haven't read the comic in about 3 years but I remember her saying she's "bi-furious" in at least the movie. Does she ever actually say she's a full dyke or is it just a headcanon made up for dudes with a sexuality conversion kink?
>>152864206https://youtu.be/ebqzksWKE4w?si=GK5GLvDqE1A01aTPI also wondered how Torontonians feel about the Scott Pilgrim movie. Like, from an outsiders perspective, I feel like the movie cared a lot about portraying Toronto as an actually nice place. I wouldn't even be surprised if some tourism was in part because of the movie.
>>152864445No idea. But her and Scott are both full blown morons that would reproduce nonstop until they couldn't anymore.
>>152864445She's made out with several girls, and not once made out with a guy; so she's most likely gay.
>>152864206I too very much enjoy this band, much more than I expected to when I first torrented their discography back in 2010
