I miss stugo
I watched the first two episodes, then forgot about it, so I guess I'll give it another shot.
i dont
>>152878640dude it's really good, but if you weren't hooked already, I'm not sure if you will be.>>152878620me tooooo.it's weird though, my rewatch kinda stopped in its tracks when /co/ stopped talking about it. I miss being Stubros with you guys, it's not the same on my own. Also I guess I wanted to try watching it in Nihongo, I think I bookmarked that mega... but I gotta rewatch it normally first.Hey hey if this thread stays up, I'll do some rewatch recaps.
kay let's see. Night Mutants:>dental hygiene is exactly the kind of scam these kids would fall for. It's nice of Larry to play music for them. I STILL want to call him Chip, he just feels like a Chip>The idea that they always go to bed at 5:30 is kind of insane and obviously super contradicted multiple times, which kinda makes it funnier>Chip's bed-shiver is bizarrely nicely animated>The reason owls can turn their heads around is that they have super long necks that are just hidden in feathers, like how easy it is for a cat to curl its tail. That doesn't really apply here with this pair-of-legs-attached-to-a-head-with-wings. Especially since she seems to be bending at the waist, the wings turning with her. Except the first time.>It is crazy that, in a show with so many obscure biology facts, the owl isn't properly xygodactyl>Her accent is also weird. Clearly meant to be French, but she sounds Indonesian.>I don't think you can actually pierce feathers>The bat mutant has four fingers plus three wing fingers. Again, very odd for this show. Said bat also has a 'male symbol' earring except it's dangling downward like the female symbol. I hope that's coincidence.>The rave-glowstick-streaks look way better when Larry twirls them vs the mutants. They saved the real nice animation for him.>"Day-curious" is a hilarious term to throw into a show like this. The raccoon even has the right number of teeth. See? these fuckers know their shit. Usually.>Do people really use cleansing masks in the morning after they just used one before bed? Francis really cares about her skin..>Lullah being hung over from science is another thing I'm glad cartoons can do sometimes now.>I'm just now realizing the mutant owl is friends with a .. slightly mutated? possum, and a non-mutated raccoon. Who nonetheless knows how to sit in a chair.>I forgot this is the episode that first wrote 'sara' and 'sarah' separately...
>>152878620So do I. Still wish one of the other kids had gotten the Theme Song Takeover.
StuGo watch a better show.
>>152879853>The snakepit callback is incredible. No other show has writing like this, god damn.>Frenchowl casually nudging Larry back into place in the rave when he tries to leave is so cute. Like she's adjusting his drink on the table or something. And there's probably some kind of statement about how she's restricting what art he's allowed to do. Oh France, you used to be cool.>I have to assume that real raccoons, when shaved, have their color patterns visible in their skin.. ah yeah, I looked it up, Yeah. Wow, the show actually took that into account. Well the tail isn't quite right.>Frenchowl's belt-chain switches sides at random>Why isn't she friends with other ravers I wonder? Also wow, she ate a... small horse? Or something, going by the skull she coughed up.>I forgot Jean-Michel gets a happy ending.>Larry should have kept the raccoon hair, looks great. like an asian black bearguys this was fun. I miss doing these.
>>152879853>the owl isn't properly xygodactylMr. Okay grows the legs him and Lullah slap on the mutants doesn't he? May have been hard for him to grow an anatomically correct owl human hybrid leg. That it's even got talons and isn't just a human one is something. Or at least that's what I think would be the in universe explanation.
>>152879989ohhhh yeah I forgot, we saw how the legs work, and how the legs take on characteristics of their hosts, but ultimately, only partially. With different mutants exhibiting different amounts of human-leg-itude. I guess that explains the possum too then, if he even is a mutant. And not just a normal possum that the owl dressed up like an ecstasy user... There's WEIRD wildlife on this island, one way or the other.
>>152879423>but if you weren't hooked already, I'm not sure if you will be.I felt like the first few episodes were kinda weak, I almost bounced but I'm glad I stuck it out The first episode in particular is really strange because it has a narrator and is generally nothing like the other episodes.
>>152880059yeah the first episode is definitely th-hang on, when we say first two, we mean the first two episode-HALVES? Because yes, those two were weak. Or rather, the second one, which was inexplicably aired as the teaser, was a weak introduction to the characters. only the 'what kind of dog are you' moment worked to get us used to them. the rest was us asking what the fuck their scenario is, why theyre being fed by some woman and then left alone, why their lives are so hard..as a SECOND episode, it's great. sets up the stakes and shows us what they have to work toward, and establishes the relationship with the mutants going forward..first episode yeah, it seems like a lot of key-jangling random nonsense until you watch the whole series, then rewatch and realize.. all that shit they zoomed past was sneak previews of future episodes. And the main twist of the camp being fake and just free labor for a supervillain will stand as one of the finest twists in TV history.
>>152880059It is the introduction episode so I can sort of give it a pass for the one off narrator. Especially considering the jokes they get out of him that episode and that last bit with him mugging the boat he lands on after being thrown off. Usually first couple episodes of a show being just ok is true for most shows but I think this is one of the few shows that comes out of the gate swinging with it's first couple of episodes.
>>152880096>what kind of dog are youStill slays me.>medium nice dog>a dog, with a sword, from an anime
>>152878620DTVA died with Hailey and Molly, and lets be real those were whimpers of death
Did the one guy sharing the Japanese dub with subs ever finish dumping them?
>>152880285It died after TOH ended since I feel like most people stopped paying attention to the channel after TOH died.
>>152880414shit i hadnt even considered that that wasn't done. i THINK it wasokay keep the thread up, peeps. We will stugo as long as we stucan.
>>152880905Looks like they were uploaded thankfully. Even looks like most of these are still up and in 1080 which is a lot higher quality than they were when they were first being ripped.https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/149700389/
>>152881223Not yet
This is me >>152878640I watched the third episode (Floor Hygene / Jellybean Goats).I like the kids so far. Main character glasses girl and suit girl carry the whole show. But it feels unbalanced having only 2 boys to 4 girls. (And the two boys are each kinda only a half-a-boy in spirit). And the black girl as the deadpan wildcard is slightly annoying. Tonight I'll watch a few more.
Stugo? More like Stupid lmao
>>152883130Good one Mishal! How you been lately, girl?
>>152878620How can anyone watch something that looks this ugly and off-putting?
>>152883161Functional cognitive function and emotional outburst regulation, ability to patiently interpret input stimuli, coherent sense of self in relation to fictional media, detached sense of self-importance, things like that which you struggle with?
>>152883041>glasses girl and suit girl carry the whole showThat mostly remains the case. They are the stand out leads of the show. But Chip and Larry both have their moments later on down the line.
>>152879910Zora is a lot to handle. Even for the other weird raving mutants.
>>152878620I miss it too. It could never thrive in this climate.
>>152878640It's pretty good. But if you aren't on board for the first couple episodes I'm unsure how you may like the rest.
>>152880059pilots are always weird. 3 episode rule
>>152883161it's less ugly than all other recent western shows except owl house and infinity train
>>152884490yeah nothing this smart ever had a chance.
>>152880595>>152880285Many of the cartoon community didn't care for those shows and only paid attention to them when they got canceled, but it's funny how those are the same people who really want a Gravity Falls revival.https://www.tumblr.com/hug-bees/803670894055735296/how-sad-are-you-at-stugos-cancellation-any-idea?source=share
>>152878620Wait, it already ended? I could swear it started airing just a year ago.
>>152881223Larry banished to Brazil
>>152878620>Characters are supposed to star in Chibiverse Season 4>Disney has been a bitch with the release of that season and prefers to release preschool shitWhy are they like this?
>>152886628Disney has always been weird with Chibiverse. Something they dump without warning sometimes. I never really liked Chibiverse but I'd at least watch to see the StuGos again
>>152886431It did. We got an episode a week for about four months. Good threads.
>>152880265I do love how they all immediately had one in mind.
>>152883161This is a real problem this show has when it comes to attracting viewers. Theres been too many shit cartoons with ugly characters being Portland superstars. StuGo knows they're ugly, because its about lame nerds being dorks.
>>152886421It's understandable to want a gravity falls revival. what we REALLY want is to get a season 2, with our season 2 becoming season 3. but that's not gonna happen and wouldn't be satisfying anyway. It's just that's what we wanted.. so some small part of us is like "please sir, can I have some more?">>152886431It was renewed and then canceled and then renewed and then canceled for real.>>152887486We've all thought about it, right? I'm definitely a wirehaired pointer mixed with a tibetan mastiff.
>>152887615It also doesn't help that it has a really stupid name. when we first heard the name, all I was thinking is "here's another shitty gay little show for babies like Craig of the Creek or whatever, and it's gonna be about a kid named Stu and how he always GOES and never stops. feh. fuck that, give me something about inactive nerds"and then it turned out it was this. but the NAME, by gar.. terrible name. And the advertising also just cherrypicks all the wackiness out of context, which does not work. They should have picked the actually clever bits for the ads
>>152888695>We have Dredge at home
>>152889711>the advertising also just cherrypicks all the wackiness out of contextThat's just Disney being Disney. Unfortunately they advertise all their shows and movies like that. They're terrible at showing what their shows have to offer.
>>152889819yep, that's also what kept me off of Phineas and Ferb. Though it was less 'haha wacky' and more 'hee ACTIVITY! look GET OUT THERE kids, get EXERCISE!' bullshit. Also the name didn't help, nor the look of the characters. It's sad that like, the era of cartoons created by people like me, for people like me, was so brief.. because people like me have no fucking work ethic. we grew up on easy street, it was just 'do your school and do nothing else and you will be rich someday while others pump gas and flip burgers' and so we did, and now we can't run cartoons because we burn out immediately. It's not like school! Well even school sucked, so it is kinda like that, but constantly.for a BRIEF shining moment, they actually got on the internet and TALKED to us. shared their plans, showed their design docs and shit. it was wonderful. then the internet went to hell and that became a huge liability, and every convention is full of autists asking ridiculously cringey and incorrect questions, or turbo libtards whining about why arent there more cripples in it, etc.
>>152886628Man, I just want another Theme Song Takeover. Hopefully with Pliny and Merian.
>>152891748I want a Francis theme song takeover for a show whose theme is completely instrumental, and she just stands there and blinks slowly, then monotonely la-la-las the last part.>I like that last part.
>>152891804ohGravity Falls theme for sure.
>>152891804I could see that being a little animation on the bottom of the screen maybe. Back when those little banners would pop up on the bottom while other shows were airing advertising new episodes and stuff.
>>152892669oh are those gone now? Those got kind of obnoxious for a while. I loved when South Park and Adventure Time started actually riffing on them.
>>152892938Oh they've been gone for a long time now. Or at least all the ones that had effort and unique animation put into them. Probably as far back as 2012 or so is the furthest back I remember seeing those. Maybe they hung around in live action spaces but as far as cartoons go they're gone. They'd be fun sometimes if they were subtle or didn't make any noise but every now and then you'd get the really in your face ones. I remember Nick being particularly bad at that.
>>152893010fascinating.alright, time to rewatch Chunk Beastknuckles. I remember having very mixed feelings about this one.>I like that Chip is a huge fuckin nerd for flowers. Flowers have a lot of shit to be nerdy about. He's using his brain.>Chip's busted sleeves are so weirdly and awkwardly drawn at the best of times. That was a stnank. And you'd think he'd remove his fucking sweater vest before his sleeves, but..>It's somehow appropriate Larry falls into a goddamn punji stick pit. Nils has a sense of irony. He was probably in 'Nam.>Wait, does Chip have freckles or zits?>I forgot Chip's cringey whining-session was explicitly a fakeout. Dude has a variety of skills.>Once again the bio-nerd artists really dig how to make a cool mutant. Chip chooses jaguar teeth because they have the strongest bite strength! Of course he'd know that.>The raptor claws are definitely something I'd have put on any self-styled mutant as a kid>Nils fought a fucking hippo and that's by far the most impressive thing we've ever seen him do>Chip's beast mode has a glorious horned pompadour and what appears to be chicken-leg shoulders in between the gorilla parts. I wonder where he got dragon wings from. He has also managed to acquire gigantic versions of his normal clothes>Nils has a weird dramatic entrance where his spider legs unfold as if he has something else holding him up, yet we later see he doesn't.>Nils's beast mode has clearly prioritized defense, which tracks. Though the upside down bird wings on his head clearly do nothing. At least the shark tail on his back could maybe propel him. I also have to wonder how he has like, biological engines. They didn't think that needed to be explained and that is great. And the spider abdomen actually has the web-fingers!>'convex prey' is a very slept-on line. I'd buy a t-shirt with that on it.>The noiseless whale attack is hilarious.>It is a tragedy that the eggs will never get to come backokay this ep is way better than I memb
>>152893432>fakeoutWas the first one a fake out? I remembered it was more of him using his powerful rebound skills to try and turn it around after the fact. Guy was a king at quickly trying to make the best out of his own screw ups. But it has been a while since my last watch of that one. I remember not being to keen on it either at the time it aired. I remember thinking I would have put it second on the bottom of the whole show. Which in retrospect is impressive that would have been the worst on offer considering it really wasn't terrible or anything.
>>152893638It's possible that first one was 50/50, trying to play off his tantrum as fake, but from then on he's clearly using it to his advantage. he's just feeling a little disappointed that he had to resort to such a tactic. But I will admit, on first watch, I didn't think that, so hmmThis is why I like sharing observations with youse guys.
they need to stucomeback
>>152886421can you just please leak the animatic?please?pretty please?pleassse?
>>152893432>Nils has a weird dramatic entrance where his spider legs unfold as if he has something else holding him up, yet we later see he doesn't.I think those were supposed to be like crab legs? Like those little "legs" crabs have near their mouths. The ones that open and claw at stuff crabs eat. Or at least that's what a quick rewatch of the scene looked like?
>>152895213yeah but keep watchinghe has no other legs but those, after that.
>>152895862Oh, yeah you are right. And there's not even like a mouth or extra hands there. Just a shell. Weird. Leave it to Nils to have claws and stuff that go nowhere.
>>152896055I do like that he not only kept his beard, but enhanced it, though.
all this show needed was nudity
>>152896957The kids are all dorks so simpler more modest clothing makes sense. But Phineas And Ferb could give Candace a two piece more than a few times so I sort of wish this show could have as well. If we had more than one beach swimsuit episode maybe.
>>152897068yeah their swimsuits were fine i guess. But yknow, it's six- er, well it's a bunch of adolescents living together without supervision, and they're SMART so they know nudity is cool.
>>152897343>so they know nudity is cool.Eh, I think that's something that comes with your background. Age too sometimes. Like maybe Merian if she had been raised to swim bare like her dolphin sister. But it doesn't look like that was the case. Especially with how many layers she wears while on an island beach in the summer. And I could see Chip avoiding it out of modesty and respect. Francis, Larry, and Sarah (all three of her) though I could totally see not letting anything hold them back.
>>152897607Yeah that actually tracks.I feel like it depends what fantasy novels they've read, particularly Pliny. Seems like they are mostly into those kickass elephants, but I bet they've read a bunch of other things too, with different fantasy cultures having their own rules about that..
>>152896957I'd have been happy if Merian at least wore sandals a few times as part of her regular outfit.
>>152897740>fantasy culturesAs much as I would have liked if the kids cosplayed in intricate fantasy outfits for their elephant book, I also think it's adorkable that they were wearing cheap hand made stuff from the random paper rolls and bits and bobs they could scrounge together. Like there's not a one of them who really knew how to sew so they had to make it up as they went along.
>>152894692Kek
>>152878620I do too.
>>152898385yes that was awesome. I miss having that kind of creativity. did a TON of that in third grade, we were encouraged to make frequent, up to weekly, 'movies' and had all the construction paper and cardboard we could want to make costumes out of. Felt very Home Movies. i mean in retrospect, since that wasn't out yet.
>>152899398I love Merian's radical overalls.
>>152905157i guess pants pulled up to your armpits basically is overalls, yeah
>>152905929I'm a little surprised. This whole time I thought they were overalls. I even drew them as such. I had no idea they weren't. Apparently only Sarah's were. Damn.
>>152906103that is the magic of pants. it gives and it takes. in the case of Fred Mertz, it slowly consumes.
>>152908330Just one of those days Merian.
>>152908518she's got a lot on her plate.
>>152897068Merian should have had her clothes destroyed, forcing her to wear a leaf bikini.
>>152909008you know she'd make a lil leaf business suit with one long leaf as her tie>but Merian, there's no skirt or pants or->I WILL BE SITTING AT MY LEAF DESK, I don't need that.
>>152909008An ENF episode with Merian would have been fun. Knowing her luck it would have happened right after she tried to tell on Larry after he tried to free ball again. And then she'd be stuck running around trying to sneak back home.
>>152909203yeah! comeuppance!
>>152886421Why do people want Gravity Falls to come back when it's an open secret that Hirsch hates Disney with a passion?
>>152886628Will they recast Larry since his VA has been vocal about pirating any Disney product they star in since they gave money to Israel when the whole conflict with Palestine started? However, I remembered that they still had Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot doing press together on that shitty Snow White film last year.
>>152909763you kinda answered your own question.
>>152909828anon please don't say fucking offtopic and deliberately inflammatory bullshit like thiswe're here to talk about the cartoon. not charlyne yi.also, the 'whole conflict' started 1400 years ago, so I don't think she's that old.
>>152878620If anyone cares, Ryan Gillis is developing a second Disney show. It looks like there are no hard feelings.https://www.linkedin.com/in/gillizama.
>>152909938i hope he gets all the same crew together
>>152909938That's not what I was expecting. But I'm glad. StuGo was great so I'd look forward to seeing what he'd do next.
>>152910047what did you see? i just saw a linkedin page that really doesn't tell me anything
>>152910195I can't see it either. I don't have a LinkedIn account.
>>152910223well I do and I just saw like yeah he's there and he's worked for blah blah blahsurely if there's an announcement of a new show, with some information on said show hence Anon saying "not what I was expecting" meaning he had an expectation of the new show and that's not it.. then... it'd be on instagram.
>>152910195
>>152910385that A) doesn't really mean anything and B) doesn't explain anon's reply of surprise
>>152910302>>152910433You're looking for meaning where there wasn't any. "Wasn't what I expected" just meant I thought he wasn't going to he doing another show with Disney.
>>152910473ohh. well you can see how at least two of us got confused, yeah?so why did you expect him to just never do another show with dinny? they're still sadly the best game in town.
>>152910667Most of these creators only really get one show with Disney don't they? Outside of Povenmire.
>>152910687Greg got two.. but.. they were a decade apart.. and in the 80s and 90s.. hm.
>>152878620What is this show even about? Is it like lord of the flies but gayer and browner?
>>152910724Yeah you see what I mean then right? Most of these creators only ever get their one show. So it's unusual for one to come back and get a second try. I'd like to think this would imply Disney believes it's a creator they can invest in and keep around. That what he's done is worth making more of and with.
>>152910774it's actually like lord of the flies WITHOUT the gay and the hostility and the gay hostility.Instead of "the nerd, the tough kid, the quiet guy, etc etc went to an island" it's six nerds went to an island. each the brain of their respective schools. and... they get along marvelously. There's friction, but they're all very sensible and don't act like dumb TV stereotypes.the main twist of the show is it's not really a summer camp, but rather the lair of a supervillain who wanted free labor from teacher's pets
>>152910687>>152910667Ain't the Primos lady doing something with Star Wars?
>>152911058jesus let's hope not
name a bigger wasted opportunity
>>152911333Left does look a lot better. But I get why they did right considering how much of a loser he is in the show.
>>152911397yeah and honestly I kinda like elements of both.
>>152897068>Show takes place on a Caribbean island>Only one beach episodeThey just don't want to win, do they.
>>152911535Especially weird since that episode establishes they stretch every morning at the beach in their swimsuits. Would have been nice if they at least showed it one or two more times.
>>152911535i could have sworn we had two.. well, it was good anyway.
>>152909008I hope Kaze shows up in this thread.
>>152910853I'm okay with what we got, but a more compelling concept would have been a combination of Lord of the Flies with something like Dr. Stone - genius kids stranded on an island, each with academic specialties, adapting their knowledge to craft makeshift solutions in order to survive. The "primitive technologies" maker subgenre is still pretty popular on youtube, so there wouldn't be a shortage of inspiration for something like this.
>>152911535>shadowI never thought he of all people would become a coward.
>StuGodidn't this show get cancelled?
>>152909763Why does everything Hirsch say sound so performative?
>>152911769Kaze does good work. and it's getting better all the time, too. Fucker's gonna be better'n me someday soon. Love to see it.>>152911809Yeah I'd definitely watch a show like that. Feels like it'd make a good anime actually. Have we ever gotten stranded kids on an island in anime? Aw they'd probably ruin it with a bunch of 'class representative' bullshit.
>>152911828dude where have you been? Simon hasn't drawn a single forbidden inch of skin since like, 2011>>152912086yep. then it was announced as renewed. then it was finally announced as canceled again. Really.. really hurt, that one.>>152912125gosh, I wonderI feel bad for people like that. He could EASILY have been one of my IRC friends back in the day. And the same fucking pattern happened. >>152914974Only if it happens to Pinny and Francis as well
>>152915850Merian is making due with whatever she can find. Cute. Good seeing you Kaze.
>>152915919I don't know if there would be much material for Francis considering she'd probably not mind. Pliny though yeah, I could see her making a mad dash back and covering what she can with that hat of hers. With Merian in tow.

Me again >>152878620 >>152883041I kept watching the show and I am up to Ep 14.The characters have really grown on me. All the kids have quirky personality profiles so they can each pipe up as a background character gag or get a bit of screentime in the spotlight. I take back what I said about Chip, he brings a very vital "boy energy" to the show in his endearing confidence. As for the other characters, Marian has stolen my heart with her neurotic businesslike sense and her Sister Swim backstory. Francis's Postal Duty is fitting. Sara's personality is openly antagonistic and conniving, she is able to embody the "dark-side" of each emotional stake.I am appreciating that they characters are depicted as actually struggling through consequences of their antics.Even Doctor Lula is not as annoying as first depicted, she accurately reflects the neglectful adult role without being too Rick Sanchez.Lastly, I am struck how the first few episodes differ thematically from the rest, which end up being much more episodic. I was under the mistaken impression that the show would have a longform mystery plot like Lost or something, but the episodic life-lesson character highlight format is better.Overall I am very much enjoying this show, final thought, like most Disney+ western cartoons, it's just as watchable in Japanese if you are learning or fluent. Much like Kiff in that way.
I miss Sleengo

It's like they know the network will not allow any complex character designs (look at the beta ones and think of what we lost) so instead they put all of that art budget into cool monsters and weird animals.
>>152878620It didn't deserve to be cancelled. It was actually funny and had a good classic premise
>>152921353I remember that being the case. Was probably the one that would easily be argued as the worst. Definitely on my bottom two list as I remembered.
>>152921560time to rewatch The Leg Farm:>yeah see we may not have gotten another beach episode, but we did get everyone sunbathing.. and only Chip is in his swimsuit. cmon guys.>Merian should not be wasting juice boxes! That's not efficient!>I love that Larry is the kinda kid that just climbs into random holes.>I'm probably overthinking this, but I love that Merian's unable to get her jacket over the back of her chair, even though it has such overly wide shoulders. Not THAT wide.>You can tell it's hurting Merian's professional mind seeing that the boss, the responsible adult is even MORE into relaxing than the kids.>She's also too responsible to undo her seatbelt before trying to escape through the window.>Mr. OK is the best for ensuring everyone on a farm needs to chew a little wheat stalk>I love how they avoided saying the fertilizer is made of poop. as if there'd be any 'food scraps' left with all these creatures around.>The fakeout with Merian in the hammock is still one of my favorite scenes.>I also don't know how to finger-whistle. How do you even do that.>How did Merian put her DNA into the fertilizer? It's worth it for the stealthy 'restless legs' joke, but...>How can 11 minutes of TV have this many callbacks, it's incredible.>Mr. OK says he goes out to the farm at least every night, to give his favorite leg a bedtime story, yet he hasn't been there in days and only went back because a dumb mutant smashed his own legs. hmm.>I love that the legs travel by just rolling end over end, rather than hopping.>Mr. OK is very chill about one of the kids seemingly dying..>On day 4 or whatever of sunbathing, Chip is fully dressed again.. as is Lullah's clone. Do clothes grow on trees?>It's nice that Merian acknowledges that her shit can't be interfering in others' shit.>These guys definitely played Portal and used that as inspiration for Larry flying repeatedly through holes.god that was a nice episode.
Pleeno is cute
cmon /co/ don't let it die
my mixed goddaughter appreciates the 'baby hairs' Francis has. No cartoons ever draw those.
I finished watching the last 8 episodes.Great show, like a more focus and childish Rick and Morty. A good mix of the kids interacting with either dumb mutants, or nefarious adults, or just each others' antics. I notice how they each can take on either a helpful or neutral or antagonistic role in service to the premise. It was great to see them all finally get to do science nerd arts and crafts in the final episode.
>>152922128>Mr. OK is very chill about one of the kids seemingly dyingHim and Lullah seemed to have a contingency plan for it. Probably more than one. I wouldn't be surprised if the two of them had been expecting one of the kids to bite it the first day. May have even had a bet running to see who it would be.
>>152925317>I notice how they each can take on either a helpful or neutral or antagonistic role in service to the premiseYeah, the character interactions and the way they made good use of all the characters in different dynamics was a real high point. None of them felt superfluous or like they were getting too much or not enough attention. I am gonna miss this show, it's a real shame.
>>152925317>>152925474Yesss it had so much potential.. ahh.. sigh.I really expected to hate at least ONE of them, I was expecting it to be two.. but no. Even Sara is cool.>>152925383Definitely. completely in-character.
>>152925317I think that's something that stood out to me, the show had a pretty large cast (comparatively) but they really utilized them all really well and made sure they all had a fun dynamic with each other.
>>152925651classic ensemble cast.if we'd gotten a season 3, I'd expect an episode where they piloted a spaceship and acted as its crew.
>>152925716thaaaat is a way cute. You are good at this. and good at cloth folds, damn. Merian would definitely just-slightly-flash-people.
>>152925716I said this before, but even if she has an unattractive face, she has a beautiful and fuckable soul.
>>152925744she just needs to let her fucking hair loose, which I think is a perfect metaphor for her on the whole.a girl with braces and a toothy overbite and some thick eyebrows is pretty damn cute, but her lightbulb head demands letting her hair down. It's better than the opposite though, nobody fucking wants a ... gourd head. That's really 80% of what people dislike about 'beanmouth' shows. lotta gourd heads. upside down lightbulbs.I'd say 'she's gonna grow up real hot' but we saw, and she isn't. sigh.
>>152925863Middle age Merian wasn't that bad. She's got the uptight business lady thing down from the small bit we saw. Even if the later one is just awful. But anyway, we saw that timeline get toasted along with Chip's time phone prototype so it's not like it matters.
>>152878620Stugo fuck yourself

>>152926022T. Dr. Lullah
>>152926279ugh, the 't' thing was shitty 7 years ago and it's shitty nowalso, it's lowercase t for chrissakes.but yes, Lullah-sensei would absolutely say that. Chip and Pliny and Merian would GASP, Sara and Larry would laugh, Francis would just be like "No." and smile.
Arright Unquenchable Thirst:THIS is one I seem to remember having a sour taste for. Little bit strawmanny.>Lullah published a wildlife magazine.. is it possible she is more into animals than she seems? That'd explain her choices in mutant stock.>Not-Jack-McBrayer does a good job making Chip sound like he has something stuck in his throat>Why did the feather land specifically on a feather-shaped opening in the mud showing Throop's face? I guess it's just a joke, but..>I'm glad they didn't, but I'm surprised they didn't have Throop making some reference to Pliny's race.>I love the word 'sphagnum.'>The Night Heron coming back was really great of them. Like now they know those guys are cool.>If Lullah discovered the giant hermit crab, that means it's natural. Because the Stoneworm was pointed out as being something she MADE, in contrast. So I guess there's just giant hoimit crabs around.>It's funny that so recently after chip showed us how into flowers he is, that he foolishly stuck his nose into an adhesive flower>Why the fuck can't you name things after yourself anymore? Who made that rule?>Chip being mistaken for a bird was totally telegraphed, but I didn't originally expect that Pliny would use him to temporarily prop up Throop's feelings.>I think I was so thrown off by the heavyhandedness of him just hucking rocks at what he thinks is a newly-discovered bird that I didn't catch that he thinks Pliny's a boy. That actually does track. She is not wearing a dress at ALL, and her name is Pliny.>Seagulls are assholes.>Throop is an idiot. You should keep animals alive to breed them and eat them.>Pliny just kinda stood there while he tied himself to Chip... I hate when people on TV do that. And how did he get the Stoneworm up there? That's a hell of an off-camera action.>The whole fight scene is pretty awesome. Not drawing Pliny's thighs is not. That really cheeses me off.>Chip's integument has been through a lot lately.Yeah I liked Beastknuckles better.
Nice to see this thread is still alive
>>152916668Hot take, but Ryan Gillis and Sam Bosma would make a banger Haunted Mansion show, but the flop of the Jared Leto-led movie killed any chances of making more HM media outside the parks. You can tell DTVA likes the ride and wants to make it a proper cartoon.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnJCvWoJD10&pp=ygUXSGF1bnRlZCBNYW5zaW9uIFNjcmF0Y2g%3D

haha rewatchin Plantcis. This should be great, I remember loving this one.>I love their little cave explorer outfits. They should wear those more often. Their special suits later should have been more like that>Chip is exactly the kind of character I worried he'd be, but only offscreen, so that's okay. Everyone gets a day to be stupid.>I appreciate that the plants never move onscreen, they just kind of appear, like the Weeping Angels. If plants can do all this, why don't they stop us from eating them?>I want Francis to love me like she loves rocks. The look of pure joy on her face was heartmelting.>When Francis gets wet, her 'baby hairs' outlines disappear, just the color is left, but she has a single strand hanging down. Interesting.>I bet someone on the show's staff voiced the hippo sneezes.>When the plant called Francis a nincompoop, I wonder if her brain felt just one millisecond of worry at the first syllable>I like that the plant beds in the "prince's" greenhouse have elaborate and colorful diamond patterns on their sides.>Francis does a cute little skipping prance before yanking away the prison of shade.>he calls her 'Plantis' at one point, then 'Franthis' before redubbing her Plantcis. ho boy. This is gonna be a ride. rewatching Big Ol' Heads Egg Salad Venture (I do not remember what this is a pun on)>Come on, "fish wallets"? Everybody knows fish aren't into cash. Thank God.>Merian is officially a teen now, oo la la. I wish we knew how old they all were.>Merian's life plan includes her braces. I get the feeling she created this when she first got them, as a way to cope.>The first graphic is a baby with arrows pointing to Merian's ponytail and jacket.. so yeah she definitely made this pretty recently, retroactively pretending she's planned her whole life from the start.>Other things on the chart include post-it notes with the symbols for Euros, Bitcoins, and the fucking Argentine Austral, a currency that existed between 1985 and 1991... I love Merian so much>The very end of the plan has a coffin, and an arrow indicating 'over' so you're meant to turn it around to see her death plans. There's also a winky face. Merian has healthy attitudes toward mortality.>I really wanna know what Chip's business idea was... Oh right, I guess it was the future-phone thing.>I really, REALLY want to try Pliny's egg salad. Like so badly. What do you think is in gunpowder aioli?>I've been interpreting Merian's hair as being quite tightly pulled back all over, but I only just now notice it DOES have a scalloped edge, suggesting bangs. Just totally flush with her forehead. Her future self has an ACTUAL visible hairline. And she has moved her ponytail down lower.>Pliny is a fucking maniac for slicing onions before peeling them. There is what appears to be a little pile of salt next to the salt shaker, and a bunch of random spoons in the cupboard below that. and all over the place too. What the fuck is going on with the spoons. Some background artist DREW this. Also there's a cute little egg mascot plushie thing. Does anyone but me remember that Korean web cartoon "Iloveegg" ?>Are they pitching Merian's voice down for her older self's voice? It sounds like it
>>152952184>I love messy hair, but Merian's messy hair does not do anything for her...>Ahh my favorite scene ever. Feeding chickens berries while doing a cute voice. She's so nice to give them something to eat before taking their eggs to eat. And I love how she looks around first.>I can't wait for the Future Hammer to be invented. Current-day hammers suck, and in NO WAY have a little laser antenna on the hitting part. Also love how the time broadcast thing can only send your head, so you have to deliver items orally. That's probably why she grew her head giant.>If anyone but Merian was in charge of attempting to reassemble eggs, I would not give them good odds.>I am now realizing this episode is basically about how Merian constantly listens to whatever she's "supposed to do", and at no point in her life has she ever had two conflicting authority figures apparently. Does she even have a dad?>She threw all the taped-up, shells-on eggs into that pot, so that's not.. gonna work out.>I'm still kind of unsure about whether 60-year-old Merian is living in the future where 30-year-old Merian had her way. She is, right?>Merian is terrible at throwing giant scissors.>Apparently the berries to feed the chickens come from nearby trees, but earlier I'm pretty sure Merian pulled one out of her jacket. She came prepared.>Wait now i'm really confused, because 30!Merian caused her own bad day. But she didn't remember that.. and destroying the time phone didn't seem to undo- oh I've gone crosseyedanyway, fuckin love this one. Usually seeing food wasted puts me in a lousy mood, but it was okay this time.
Shame about this show. It and Kiff are the only kids cartoons with a sense of humour I really vibes with.
>>152952184>I wish we knew how old they all wereIt's a mystery. Kind of have to go on vibes with that. I always figured Chip was probably the oldest just for his height and how much he tries to be the big bro to everyone. But it also could easily just fit his character if he tried to be the oldest but wasn't. Presumably they're all around 12 or 13 at least for a catch all.
>>152952292>Merian's messy hair does not do anything for herI think it's because it's not really her with her hair down but her with her hair blown in a direction? Like it's unbalanced and not really thoroughly messy I think. It's not going to hit the same as if she had undone her ponytail or had bedhead. Looking at it again, it's also a lot of hair compared to her ponytail. Girl must keep that one wrapped tight.
>>152952344indeed. She uses only pure aluminum hair ties
Guys I like this show..I wish it wasn't canceled.
>>152946064Anon you replied to here, kiff was okay but it was never that good to me. I didnt hate it per say but i didnt fall in love with it either. Deer teacher was hot because she had pearls VA. Also the witch character was funny as fuck, loved her.
>>152953395I tried to let go of this show but you're reminding me how much i liked a lot of it. The witch is indeed hilarious. I believe she and the principal are the creators.
>>152953404>The witch is indeed hilarious. I believe she and the principal are the creators.Really? Maybe its cuz its so late but i cant think of any creators self insert at the moment that ended up being the very best character of the show. Holy fuck that is impressive.
>>152953411I mean.. most of the ones I can think of are. There's really only two kinds of 'the creator does a voice'1. the breakoutest character or at least one of them (Doof, the Undergrads, Stan and Soos)2. the thankless nobody character who only appears once in a while (Dr. Kahn, George Steinbrenner, Lumpy Space Princess (okay maybe she's more of a breakout character, but.. Shelby the Worm then)
>>152948600>Eventually something else will come.At this point i genuinely fucking doubt it. At least for a very very long while. I think there will he a severe drought of animation content for the next decade at least unfortunately. Fuck this future
>>152953443I think it's significantly more fucked than thatWe're in a weird place where for a long time, we've been propping our hopes up with increasingly dwindling things that still work, and now nothing works. We'll be lucky to have electricity and running water in a decade.
>>152953457>We'll be lucky to have electricity and running water in a decade.Dont fucking say that dude...
>>152953443It's inevitable. As long as the company exist they'll keep throwing things at the wall over and over. Some shows could end up shit, but one of those will eventually hit well. Likely more than just one. It's just a waiting game. As long as the company exists they'll keep rolling the dice. Same with Nick and even Cartoon Network. Even if those two feel like they're in bad places they still get decent shows every now and then. Nick had that Wylde Pak lately and I thought for sure they couldn't do anything but the Sponge.
>>152953482Dude im pretty sure that suicidally self destructive paramount-warner buyout is gonna kill nickelodeon and cartoon network as well as bankrupt paramount and warner bros into near irrelevancy. They literally cannot afford the merger and i cant understand why theyre doing it still if they dont have the money for it.
>>152953490Yes. That's likely. That's why I said as long as the companies exist. If one of them goes under then that's that for it. Maybe some of it's properties will be sold and someone else will take a crack at them. But the ones that are left will eventually land on something. Or streaming services will. Netflix has had a few decent shows among all the shit sometimes for one. Eventually some other show will come that'll be worth watching. Animation as a medium isn't going to disappear and as long as it doesn't something new will eventually happen. I'm not disagreeing that shit sucks, but it's not going to mean we'll never have a decent show again. That's just impossible.
>>152953530huge swaths of the internet are completely gone now. Some because they were deliberately sabotaged and torn down, and some because the userbase dwindled down to nothing. TV will go through the same thing as we grow old and die, and the undergeneration (what little there is) doesn't consume any products or media.
>>152953530>But the ones that are left will eventually land on something. Or streaming services will. Netflix has had a few decent shows among all the shit sometimes for one.
