This. If you think the animals are being mind controlled you might as well think the 7 dwarves are being mind controlled as well since they also love Snow White and do whatever she says.

For another example, lots of interpretations of Aqua Man portray him as not "mind controlling" aquatic life but simply being friends so he just talks to them to help them out and their dumb little fish minds just go "lol okay".

Because animals don't have souls or self-aware sapience so mind-controlling them is like using any tool, a toaster or fridge or a car. Ethically it's fine.
