Did his movie make him A-list?
>>
>>152900807
No, because after 13 years twitter parrtos hadn't bought any single marvel comicbook with a publish date before 2008.

He will always be a b-lister o c-lister (more like c-lister, since hankypym is a b-lister)
>>
>>152900807
No but Ant-Man is now a comfortable B-Lister since at least now everyone knows who Ant-Man is, instead of being a low profile mantle like before and at least for Scott Lang, it legit saved him from a near permanent comic book death, like say, Bill Foster and solidified him as the default Ant-Man.

>>152900872
Pre-MCU Scotty was definitely C-Lister but Post-MCU I'd say he's B, chances are that if you ask a random person on the street who Ant-Man is, they would say "Paul Rudd". Hank I'd say is in the same B spot as before.
>>
>>152901817
The story about him set during Civil War is phase one of a three phase plan to bring Bill back to life.
>>
>>152902806
I want to believe
>>
>>152900807
He's an Ant-lister for sure
>>
>>152900807
Not really, but he is definitely not the bottom level obscure he used to be the the previous 50 something years.

He is a fairly known secondary background character now. Like most people know who Hawkman and Martian Manhunter are even if they have no idea what their deal is or any of their villains.

Kind of crazy that a Fantastic Four movie struggled to make Ant-Man numbers
>>
>>152905619
Even a Superman movie struggled to make those numbers, twice

Are Ant-Man comics good?
>>
>>152900807
Does he even still have an ongoing anymore?
>>
>>152909502
No. Historically, it's pretty rare for Marvel to give any Ant-Man an on-going and the longest running one only lasted like 15 issues when the movie first came out.
>>
>>152909790
Remember how Alan Moore once said phe was interested in making an Ant-Man comic but Marvel said that wouldn't sell?

Old man Hank had a mini recently

There's inside comics and there's outside comics, in the real world with the normies. Out in the real world, the MCU made Ant-Man a household name that people know and recognize.

In comics things are different because the last time Marvel or DC had a regular influx of new readers every year was back in the early to mid 90s. Ever since it's been a slowly dying industry with a slowly dwindling audience, the characters who were popular back then are still the characters that are most popular with the readers, Marvel are very slow at reacting to other characters getting popular outside of comics, sometimes they can be very resistant to characters who "aren't supposed to be popular" getting bigger because of an adaptation. In comics, the MCU has saved Ant-Man from being a dead D-lister and given him a few solo comics and minis around the time of his movie releases, but the best he can hope for long term in comics is to be a solid B to C lister who shows up in team books.

>>152906953
Most of the X-Men movies and Wolverine solo movies struggled to make those numbers, with only a few exceptions.

>>152910475
This was in the early Quesada era when Joe was so desperate to get Moore to work for Marvel that he did everything short of going to Moore's house and personally sucking him off, and Moore still didn't really want to work for Marvel. Only Moore knows if he REALLY wanted to make an Ant-Man comic or was just suggesting something that was (at the time) uncommercial to try and get Marvel to leave him alone.
>>
>>152915341
So the Moore story could have been bullshit?
>>
>>152905619
Ant Man was made back in a time when people liked superhero movies. and the only cameo-tie in it had was about 5 minutes of Falcon appearing.

Now people are a mix of totally sick of them, and not really wanting to bother since they have largely sucked since 2020. Especially if it's MCU. People are wary that it might just be another Disney+ tie-in that you need to do homework and watch 2-3 of their Disney+ series to know what the fuck is going on.
>>
>>152915341
Marvel fumbled this really hard anyway since around the time MCU got really huge and popular in the early 2010s, comics were busy replacing almost every one of their mainline heroes. So no new fans could pick up and read about Thor or Captain America.

Thor was replaced by Jane
Cap was replaced by Falcon
Iron Man was dead
Avengers was the teen squad with Vision, Sam Nova, Ms Marvel
Spider-Man was Dock Ock
Hulk was dead
>>
He almost formed his New Avengers lol

The All New All Different Marvel era was odd
>>
>>152918047
Scott himself is the only one who hadn't an Avenger already, so that seems underwhelming.
>>
>>152917842
All movies are basically dying because no one wants to pay money to go to theaters and people would rather see movies in short tiktok clips. It's not like the superhero craze dying gave way to any other genre of movie getting popular. Every now and then you get a big horror movie done on a budget that succeeds immensely but that's the same as it's ever been. A movie might get popular but it does nothing for it's theme or genre, it's all wildly unpredictable.
>>
>>152900807
No because they used the wrong Ant Man and gave his 2nd most important character moment to Iron Man

Yeah, he's been a reserve or unofficial member from time to time until the late 90's with Geoff Johns but Scott is more associated with the Fantastic Four than with the Avengers
>>
>>152921087
I think that using Lang for the origin story was good but what they did with Ultron was plain dumb

When is Hank becoming young again?

So yeah he's probably back to c-list, around the time the movie came out I would say he was b

>C-Lister with a movie trilogy of $ 1B
Man, like >>152915341 said, Marvel sucks at pushing characters in comics. They did try something with Nadia as Wasp but they also gave up.
>>
>>152924764
>The first and longest running Wasp solo was not even about Janet
We rag about how Marvel treats the Ant-Men but they might not get it as rough as Jan.

Making Nadia asexual killed her waifu appeal
>>
>>152916380
Assuming it's even true that Moore even talked about doing an Ant-Man book at 2000s Marvel, there's a high chance he was intentionally suggesting a book he knew they wouldn't want to do, rather than just outright telling them to piss off and leave him alone. I don't get the impression he's ever wanted to go back to Marvel or DC and write anything.
>>
>>152936028
They gave Nadia's book to a writer who just wants to write about teenage brown lesbians. And then gave the relaunch to him as well. Making her asexual was probably a compromise if they wouldn't let him make her a lesbian.
>>
>>152925114
I think the two Unstoppable Wasp volumes were kind to Jan, at least. I mean she basically just rotates between other titles to serve as a romantic interest for a while. In UW she got to do something different than the usual, and it reflected well on her.
>>
>>152900807
No, not at all. He's barely A-list in the MCU incarnation, he's like one step up from Shang-Chi.
>>
>>152937483
A heroine becoming the love interest of multiple heroes just cuz they had no idea of what to do with her is a grim fate so at least is good to hear that Jan got something else to do
>>
>>152938311
>A heroine becoming the love interest of multiple heroes just cuz they had no idea of what to do with her is a grim fate so at least is good to hear that Jan got something else to do
>And then she got used as a love interest for Iron Man afterwards
These days most heroines have a choice between being the love interest of multiple heroes because nobody knows what else to do with them, or being the love interest of multiple heroes because someone at Marvel really wants to keep her away from the one hero that fans want to see her with.
>>
>>152938404
Really bad is when multiple writers waifu the same character
>>
Alright /co/, how do I make the ants and wasps into a-listers?
