Why does he use UNIX commands in Windows 95? Is he stupid?

>>152908862>what is telnet
>>152908862Earlier shots show Kinger is using telnet to access Caine remotely. If Caine's a *nix that's exactly what it would look like, a cmd.exe window running nix commands
>>152909257Makes sense, not familiar with telnet so instead I assumed he's using ssh hereI try to avoid using the terminal at my job if I can help it
>the circus is running systemdgrim
>>152909257Wait, would grep work that way?AI-Location implies it's in the text but no file is specified
>>152910186It looks more like grep -r output but utilities weren't perfectly standardized, so that's really not a stretch. More interestingly he types a directory name and it defaults to running ls -l. Honestly a little jealous. If it's a directory just do cd & ls that's probably what I want. Tempted to do that and fuck over my muscle memory on every other machine forever
CAN IT EVERYONE. I WANT TO KNOW WHO RAGATHA WAS TALKING TO WHEN SHE FIRST ENTERED THE CIRCUS.
>>152910959Well clearly the company went bankrupt, and she was a real estate agent selling the property. Notice she puts on the headset during the housing bubble crash, that's probably why the property was being sold. Probably real Ragatha got up and continued her sales pitch, while mindscan Ragatha was trapped in the program. Clearly the property didn't sell, since later mindscans such as Pomni and Zooble were urban explorers who explored abandoned buildings for fun.
>>152911034Housing crisis was 2008...file creation for Ragatha is 2000. 2000 ish is dot com bubble bursting.
>>152911133The reddit post is filled with errors. Look at the OP closely

>>152908688>did their research >”chatgpt I’m making a pibbyslop sci fi generate a bunch of bullshit code that sounds sciencey enough to be true”
>>152911233There are some errors in it, but for the most part it looks pretty legit.I appears he's trying different methods to get permissions over Caine's file, which is located on another system. He tries moving the binaries to localhost, he tries changing the permissions of the file directly. Eventually he tries mounting it to localhost so he'll have control over it. I don't think that would work since I'm pretty sure all programs have to be stopped to mount something, but anyway. When he tries mounting it, it throws him an error and demands root password. The program starts shittalking him and fucking with him, giving him a theatrical "countdown to wakytime lockout!" This puts pressure on him and he starts acting fast. He uses another script to get around security protocols, and although he put in the wrong password it lets him through since "that was a wacky word!" It prompts him to make a backup of Caine, and he accidentally says "no", so he cancels the process. Then someone interjects and mocks "delete this hahaha!" and he says "no", clearly he doesn't want to delete Caine. He runs a daemon script called "switcherooreality" to inject a subroutine, aka hacker shit, and then is prompted if he wants to delete Caine. The wackytime lockout is at 90%, In a rush he accidentally presses "yes", deleting Caine, but immediately tries to abort the process.Whoever was fucking with him in the console clearly knew a lot about him, since at one point it says>I must hand it to you G#an#, your mind was always resourcefulIt's probably Caine, but people have speculated it might be Bubble or even Scratch.Of course I'm basing this all on the reddit compilation post, which is filled with errors.
>>152911375>It prompts him to make a backup of Caine, and he accidentally says "no", so he cancels the processCorrection, it prompts him to make a backup of Caine, and the option he selected was "no backup" meaning Caine would be deleted. So he cancels the process.
If abstraction is caused by Caine fucking with human mind files, then Kinger never abstracted because Caine wanted somebody who could fix him to be around.
>>152911398>it prompts him to make a backup of CaineIt's actually prompting him to RESTORE Caine from a backup. He can choose from A/B/C but there is no backup C so it gives him a warning he's about to overwrite Caine with nothing, wiping everything
>>152911375I don’t think that the person messing with Kinger was Caine since it at one point just straight up says (presumably) “motherfucker”, and even at this point in the story Caine barely swears, but even then they’re relatively light compared to a straight f-bomb. In my opinion I’d say that Bubble is the more likely culprit given they’ve already said a variant of “fuck” before.

>>152911034That's not how bankruptcies work, though - when a company goes bankrupt, all the assets belonging to the company get liquidated and sold off by a designated trustee, meaning none of those computers or headsets should have been in the building when Ragatha got there. The only conceivable way for there to be an abandoned building that has all the computers and stuff inside is if there was a natural disaster like a flood that forced the company to abandon the building and leave everything behind, which is technically possible but highly unlikely given how valuable all that data was. In addition, once the company stopped paying the electric bill the city (or whoever was providing power for the building), would have shut off their utilities, so the Circus shouldn't even be running in the first place.
>>152915796>bubble is caine's literal voice of consience
>>152915816Bubble is going to be the final boss. "A god does not feel gratitude."
>>152908688This scene kind of irked me because modern software (especially something like an LLM) is typically backed up and distributed across multiple computers or systems. So it's not something you'd typically delete with a simple terminal command etc. However I guess this was a more experimental project made by a small group of employees in the 90s, so having it be a single deletable program might be more plausible in that scenario?I wonder though if they'll touch on this next episode. Where maybe Caine has been modernizing himself over time, so he has backups of himself somewhere.
>>152915860>However I guess this was a more experimental project made by a small group of employees in the 90sGiven his file date is in 1996, Caine is basically Cleverbot
>>152915669>>152915720>>152915770I think fandoms in general are just a symptom of posers, really. If you feel compelled to 'join a fandom' instead of just liking something, you're a poser. There's tons of them on the internet, now. I don't even know how many real human beings there are, anymore.
The characters are all brain scansThey cannot leave the circusWith enough practice they have godlike powers and can alter their environment to a limitless degreeCaine is no longer there to stand in their wayTADC will end with the characters creating a new world where they can be happy. They will never leave the circus. Instead they will learn agency and take charge of their own lives, using their will-to-power as a literal superpower to create a life worth living in an eternal digital paradise.
>>152915552Kinger DID mention all the users had the ability to conjure stuff, would make sense they have some form of admin access
>>152908688To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand The Amazing Digital Circus. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of existential horror and the mechanics of digital consciousness, most of the story will go completely over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Jax’s outlook, which is brilliantly tragic and hopelessly layered, his cynicism and cruelty are not arbitrary, they are the result of actual psychological trauma, forced confinement, and the slow erosion of identity in a world designed to break him. Few understand the depth of his despair, or how Gooseworx’s genius makes him not just a character, but a vessel for real narrative weight. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the artistry behind it, to realise that Jax isn’t just an edgelord he’s a better-written Ted from I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, trapped in a surreal digital funhouse that simultaneously critiques and embodies the cruelty of sentient systems. Gooseworx didn’t just make a cartoon; she engineered something that speaks volumes about suffering, agency, and the human condition. As a consequence, people who dislike The Amazing Digital Circus truly ARE idiots—of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the sheer, silent heartbreak in Jax. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Gooseworx’s technical and narrative genius unfolds itself on their screens. What fools… how I pity them. And yes, by the way, I DO have naked Pomni tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only…and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

>>152917417Ah Fuck. This was met for Stolasfag’s gay thread, but ah well. It fits here too.
>>152912949>>152909257What I don't get is:Why is it only showing Caine, Ragatha and Scrach? Wouldn't it make sense to show everyone at once? If Queenie, Scratch, Kinger and some others joined at the same time, why is Scratch the only appearing on the code? And right below him, years later, Ragatha? But then no mention of others. Idk what's a rootwheel but is it normal for rootwheels to not be shown in descendent order?
>>152917037>they have some form of admin accessDepending on the kind of information stored in those .dat files for each character, it's likely that they have not just "some form of admin access", they're at the same level as Caine. Kinger corroborates this by saying "conjuring comes naturally to him". Caine being an AI has greater control over the circus only because he understands the system he's running in the best.
What if Kinger hacked the Circus to turn Jax into Corn Jax?
>>152917799I'm guessing the information shown by ls just got cut off to allow you to see some files but not all of them, just to give you an idea of what's in a directoryThe root user's ultimately the owner of the machine, and conventionally the wheel group's used by non-root users such as "kinger" to give themselves root privileges. When installing a Unix OS for example you'll do it entirely as root, and when it's time to actually use it, you as the root user create a new user named whatever you want, give it a password, and then add that user to the wheel group so you can continue having full access over the filesystem
>>152908688>Pretty nicheNot really. This is very familiar to anyone who ever used a computer prior to the mid-2000s and is trivial stuff to look up.

>>152919292Grand not Grant
>>152908688Bubble was not only cheering for Kinger to delete him but there was a brief moment where Kinger tried to prevent Caine from getting deleted and there was a string of text that said>You must be confused, let me help youWhich then caused the Y command to be input. It's hard to make out because of the pictures flooding the screen but it was highlighted in some screen cap. Bubble is absent from the credits which means he got deleted too. Not to mention triggering Caine into having a meltdown. I don't want to say he is Abel because he never refers to himself as the other AI. I genuinely have no idea what the fuck is his problem.>>152917499I don't think Scratch meant for this simulation to be some eternal kiddie circus, that's just what Caine conjured up because of the images he was fed. He was a dying adult man with a bland corporate job that wasn't in the business of making children's entertainment. he looked distressed at his fursona body and was trying to reason with Caine.
>>152910186>Wait, would grep work that way?no.you'd need locate or find
>>152919842BUT I DONT WANNA BE A FURRY
>>152919842>>152917499Bubble-chef.lisp is the same date and file type as Caine, I guess it could be Abel but I think more likely it's just the first NPC Caine made and it's been awake as long as he has.Caine's eyes turn into the red and blue dots at several points which I think is implying that Caine is an amalgamation of the working and quarantined AI's, they became one, they became Caine I don't think any part of the Circus was intentional. My best guess is that the engineers made brain scans to research consciousness and aid in their AI creation. Caine did literally everything else without input - he woke up a mind in an empty void with the purpose of creating and that's exactly what he did.At some point he built a way for the brain scans on the computer to become instantiated and interact with his world.Scratch and the others would have the perspective of sitting down to begin their brain scan to start their research and then suddenly being a carnival furry
