I think what gets me about the second season of F&C is the sheer discrepancy between plotlines.On one side you have Finn the Human, hero of Ooo and the main character of Adventure Time, dying. His friends are desperately trying to save him and one of these erstwhile saviors is Huntress Wizard, an enigmatic wizard with a mysterious allure. She's ostensibly Finn's final love interest but the show didn't give her much screen time so this season is aiming to rectify that which means she's already going to get the spotlight treatment from fans who want to see what her deal is. We learn her backstory, we see why she is the way she is, and we see her battle both her coven and her very nature to save Finn, risking life and limb in the process. Hers is a story of adventure, magic, and ultimately love.And then you've got Fionna and her friends. theirs is a mundane sort, as was established in the last season. And that doesn't have to be a problem necessarily, but it just doesn't jive with what's going on in the other side of the room. The stakes are mismatched, the plot progression is poorly managed. Fionna's goal of saving her friend's baking business doesn't gel with HW's goal of saving her boyfriend's life and whenever the story needs to progress the plot for one character they pause progression for the other.This is a huge problem, you can't have your dual protagonists be on two different pages. Hell, forget pages, they're not even reading the same damn book. And naturally people who like the slow paced nature of F&C's mundane reality aren't going to appreciate HW's magical shenanigans stealing the spotlight just like how people watching the season for Huntress don't give a shit about saving the sweet spot. Whenever the spotlight is on Fionna and her friends I found myself wishing it would get back to HW and it's a serious issue when one entire half of your story is demonstrably less entertaining than the other.
