It will probably make a billion like Moana 2 and live action Lilo
>>
is it worth knowing about or caring about the live action disney movies? what's the takeaway here
>>
>>152931115
This, sadly. It looks like shit, but it most likely make gorillions of dollars.
>>
>>152931040
Gotta admit, if you're going to cast a live action version of Maui, "The Rock" is a pretty good choice (although he might be getting a little old for this).

What I don't get is making a live-action version of Moana that from the trailer appears to be a shot-for-shot remake of the animated original, with so much CGI that there would hardly be any difference between the two versions.
>>
Rock's skinnier face with that muscle suit is tripping me out.
>>
>>152930966
So just, the Rock in a wig?
>>
>>152930966
Now we're going to get to see a live action version of The Rock singing You're Welcome... Hopefully it's even more meme-worthy.
>>

That film was five years ago and he been in other films since, quit your nonsense talking.

>>
>>152930966
I hate Disney's live action remake slop, but this is especially dumb since the movie is too new for people to even be nostalgic about it. Also the Rock doesn't look the part and is too old to play Maui and why the hell did they replace Moana's 8/10 voice actress who looked almost exactly like her with a 6/10 who looks less like her? The Rock isn't too old to play an action hero at 52 but Cravalho is too old to play a princess at 25? So much for being feminist, Hollywood.

Moana is one of the most streamed movies of all time, which is the reason they took the TV show and stitched it together as a movie at the last minute. This is gonna be a total piece of shit but it will do well regardless since whether we like it or not, audiences are also complicit into throwing billions to this slop.
>>
>>152931637
The planet where they say they're feminist at least a few times a day and make retarded girlboss movies who no one wants to watch to prove it? You can, of course, argue that they're lying for personal gain and don't really want equality of the sexes, and are just making the world a worse place for everyone, but that's also true for all feminists.
>>
>>152931004
I saw the Jungle Book one, and I enjoyed it. Mostly cause the live action version didn't just seem to be doing the animated story beat for beat, besides calling back on a couple of the popular songs.

All the other live actions just seemed like the same thing but liveaction, and I am always surprised how nostalgia is enough to make a billion whether its good or bad.
>>
I will never forgive the Academy for brainwashing the masses into having so little respect for the medium of animation.

Not to defend this garbage but thats literally a line from the original movie followed by a joke of Maui laying out how she is in fact a princess because she sings and has animal companions.

They have to replace the actress because otherwise there's no point for the movie to exist. All her songs are going to sound the same as the original, the dialogue is going to come out the same, there'd genuinely be nothing to it.

As for the live action, I don't watch this crap but as far as live actions go this one looks OK I guess. Not too uncanny valley and sort of just a recreation.
Moana's a really good film, this looks like it'll just have some more of that post modern humour but otherwise be the same thing. So, as with all live actions, has no reason to exist

>>
>>152930966
I liked the original movie. This has the rock in a terrible wig and the CG looks like shit. Disney is creatively bankrupt and this exists purely because of The Rock being a shithead
>>
It's sad how this shit looks so generic and poor when converted to Live Action.
Goes from a charming island to just looking like any other live action Rock movie produced by another other studio. is this moana now or race to witch mountain
>>
the only good post-2000 remake of a Disney movie was Cinderella. The rest have been varying levels of shit. (I don't count Cruella in this as it's an unnecessary prequel but weirdly fun)

Very definition of slop.
1B in the box office guaranteed and Disney will keep shitting these for at least another decade.

I'm still amazed someone thought people will be excited about a literal slop filter. There's no way they're this dumb, they just spent billions on AI and have to pretend to be optimistic in front of the investors.

WHY
>>
>>152930966
never seen a single moana movie
>>
>>152936432
The first one is good. It looks amazing and has good songs. It also feels a little empty because a big part of it is sailing and there's only two actual characters there. This sort of environment lends itself much better to long island hopping adventure shows that can take their time exploring and growing the crew, rather than movies. The only big encounter before the last boss is a singing crab (good song, fun character, is only in the movie for 10-15 minutes), Moana meeting Maui barely counts as an encounter (it's just a song) and the gremlin people are whatever and short, and the boss fight looks nice, but is kinda lame, since it's not even technically a villain nor something they can actually defeat. Still, overall at least a 7/10, definitely worth a watch.

They're scraping the bottom of the barrel. There's no more old old movies to remake, but the gravy train is too good to give up on now, even though there's soon not even gonna be any IP's left to give the live action treatment. Every child born after 2010 is growing up with nothing original, just remakes of their parents or older siblings childhoods.
>>
>>152930966
>it's a The Rock movie starring The Rock playing The Rock
Already seen it before, multiple times in fact.
>>
>>152936801
Pretty sure for Moana, The Rock was pushing Disney to make this because he wanted to play Maui before he got too old to do so.
>>
>>152932069
The Cinderella live-action was an "ok" movie. I mean, it wasn't bad, but didn't have anything noteworthy or memorable... which are common characteristics of the recent Disney live-actions movies. As >>152932945 said, the bar is set too low...
>>
>>152936732
Why though? Hollywood was at it's most fun when it was at it's most male-focused. And it sucks ass now that it's acting feminist (even if it really isn't). A truly feminist Hollywood would create the same caliber of utter shit it's doing now, just would treat women better.

Unironically Lilo and Stich cracking a billion, despite being universally loathed. Had that shit flopped or even underperformed like the past few years of live action Disney, they probably would've canned it.

So we're probably stuck with another few years of this shit. Hopefully Lilo and Stich was a genuine fluke and these continue the pattern of failure.
>>
Wait, why are people hating this trailer? I haven't seen the other live action movies and I know their reputations, but this one looks pretty faithful to the original. If there's one Disney movie you could do mostly live-action it's probably Moana.
>>
>>152940454
The fact that it's so "faithful" is inherently the problem. This movie has no actual reason to exist when the original film its based on not only isn't that old, but the Live Action version has only marginally less CGI.
>>
>>152936801
it's funny these are like direct to dvd sequels except a million times worse
>>

>>
>>152940722

Disney should just go back to 2D animation and start catering to adults. Kids do not watch this shit. Like at all. They watch TADC, skibidi, that A.I fruit show whatever the fuck its called and tiktoks.
>>
>>152933447
She's older than Moana is
>>
>>152940675
At least the DVD sequels gave 2D animators a job, and more often than not they gave enough of a shit to make something worthwhile. This is purely a money laundering scheme that occasionally makes money on top of that.
