Is Watters' Nightwing actually good or are people just overrating it because it's not Taylor's?

Nightwing finally has some actual colorful villains of his own to fight, the panelling is top-tier and the art is some of the best at DC right now. And Watters really seems to get Nightwing—his voice is spot on. Also, Babs a cute in this one. It's some of the best Nightwing in well over a decade, for sure.

It's pretty good. The gang shit was the worst part as it was fairly generic but he kinda dropped it half way through the arc as it seemed to mostly serve as a backstory/reason for Nightwing Prime. I really liked Olivia and am hoping Watters can bring her back somehow.The new arc started off better than the Zanni arc and Cowan's art fits the tone a lot more than Onions's art did so I'm hoping it'll get better like the first arc did

Though unfortunately while his art wasn't bad by any means and he did some horror elements just fine S*y's really didn't fit the book that well like it would a pure action book.

>>152931078As someone who picked up the book during the Taylor stuff having read the Dixon run, I think I'm in the minority in saying the Taylor stuff was great. Flawed for sure, but it was a needed step since Dick hadn't had a note worthy run in a hot minute.As for Watters run, I really dig it. It's clear Watters is taking inspiration from the Dixon run in terms of tone and has mastered Dick's voice very well. I'm also digging the newer stuff that's flashing out Bludhaven's lore. Giving us a great idea of the city's history and adding to the mythology. Art has also been great Sook did a great job and Cowan did a great job on his first issue.Overall, yeah I'd say it's worth it.

Does anyone give a shit about Bludhaven's lore? Seeley tried to do that with making it some whaling or fishing city which had no real connection to Dick and felt off. Like there is no narrative connection between a fishing city and Dick as a character. That would make more sense for Aquaman or something.
They write Dick like a limp dick wuss. Taylor and Waters. There must be some memo at DC where Dick isn't allowed to engage in anything sexual unless a female character basically takes Dick's clothes off for him.
