Do the indie comic guys of the 80s and 90s still have fans anywhere?
I still follow Clowes and Burns, I picked up both of their most recent books Monica and Final Cut. Gary Panter rarely makes comics now, but I follow him on Instagram. I picked up the giant Love & Rockets boxset on a discount a few months ago, and I'll pick up random Gilbert Hernandez books because I respect his commitment to drawing comics with gigantic tits in them.
>>152939503Mike Mignola seems to have found a new groove again with Lands Unknown.
>>152939808>Lands UnknownThanks for reminding me about this, I need to pick it up. I dropped Hellboy because Mignola stopped drawing it, but I'll definitely pick up the Lands Unknown books as long as he's drawing it.
>>152939873Did you read Hellboy in Hell?
>>152939888I had already dropped it by then, and then I heard Mignola stopped drawing it again when the book came back, so I might just get the Hellboy in Hell collections.
I liked Yummy Fur when I read it as a teenager, but re-reading it now, it's obvious Chester Brown is a fucking weirdo Canadian sperg.
>>152939503I love Clowes and Burns, Hernandez bros most of all if they count. I never really liked others like Seth or Chris Ware, who felt very soulless and uninteresting in comparison.
>>152939938>I never really liked others like Seth or Chris Ware, who felt very soulless and uninteresting in comparison.I generally agree about both Seth and Chris Ware, but Ware's Acme Novelty Datebooks are the best published sketchbooks next to Crumb's.
>>152939938A lot of indie stuff like Ware feels too engineered and sterile.
>>152939503Bone seems to sell pretty well still.
Whatever happened to Dave Sim
>>152940078Managed to alienate literally everybody just by being his authentic self. Hasn't worked consistently for a few years but he's still got it, these days does short YouTube videos to an audience of a couple of hundred, sometimes about comics, sometimes whatever takes his fancy:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jtpP2BJsNQ
>>152940197Nice. I remember when a majority of obnoxious people were trying to cancel him before that was even a thing. Made me want to read him more
>>152939873For whatever its worth, I bought the hardback sight-unseen and was very pleased with it. Its quite whimsical, like its an adaptation of a much older series of fantasy stories and folktales.
Evan Dorkin seems to have found a new audience.
>>152939873>>152939808I really like it, i also liked the non-mignola comic "Skinless Man" it was refreshing because it actually seemed to be trying a few things a bit different from other fantasy, big German feels to it. Reminds me of both Witcher and Berserk (but the elves are more mythologicallt accurate).
>>152941336also Conan, I think the best way to describe is Conan/Sword and Sorcery but with a focus on all the sorcery compared to the sword part.
>>152939926>indie artist is a weirdo sperg And water is wet
>>152939503Critics still love them but I dont think they get newer younger fans. No real appeal.
>>152939503Stan Sakai does
