How did internet humor go from this pure SOVL in the 2000s to the modern day of everything being a fucking wojak?
>>152941993The barrier of entry to have to learn flash animation was just berely enough of a hurdle but was doable if you were a wacky teen, combines with the newgrounds voting method means you had to commit to things other teens would actually find funny. Which included idiosyncratic and spontanious and subversive gags, but also genuine affection for dumb childhood experiences.Later the eBaumsWorld / Youtube Poop era took away the hand-crafted feel, and it just became recycling pre-existing media tropes and eshewing flash animation for video editing (basically just filters). Gone was the Newgrounds in-joke culture, replaced with content aggregators and later just recommendation algorithms.I am unwilling to speculate why the specific reddit reaction images and wojaks and sharty bullshit took over. I am just going to say "ideology propaganda". Maybe the influx of oblivious and tasteless zoomers and browns and spambots and influencers are actually stupider than the 2000s kiddos...

g.G.It's still a G# idiot, it's not gonna change.
>>152941921Not a lot of people on /co/ are old enough to remember this sadly, OP.

Gone was the Newgrounds in-joke culture, replaced with content aggregators and later just recommendation algorithms. You're getting mixed up between the forest and the trees. YTP culture wasn't the killer, it was the commericalization of the platform it was hosted on. First it was content ID systems taking down any video that featured "protected" music, then the rising awareness of channel monetization. People went from making things that were funny to making things that wouldn't get taken down or would make them money. From here you had MLMs like Machinima setting the foundation for multiple channels forming together to create a brand which set the deathknell in motion

>>152941993zoomers ruin everything
>>152944658Indeed. Zoomers are soulless and inventive.
>>152943778You sure are.
>>152941993This. >>152944658Also increasingly easier access to the internet over the years, it lets people who shouldn't be on it in the first place have access. That's why everything is censored, hidden behind a paywall, etc.
>>152944945I really miss when not everybody and their grandmother was on the internet.
>>152941993Spitefull people, a lot of people became more spitefull, why do you think soijaks kept being used so much?
OH MY GOD IT'S ALFRED MOLINA
>>152941921You're pretty cool, anon.
>>152941921I'm not sure what it is with me but old flash animations had lore that tickled my brain mainstream media could never.
>>152945668He it's a lettter from my uncle!
>>152941921Are you detective Randall?
>>152947028Yeah, that’s me.
>>152941993Kids today could never.
>>152947620I’m 26 and I watch Neil’s stuff all the time. He lives just up the tracks from me in Somerville.
>>152943704I long for the days when we would laugh at how long a secret Dr Rabbit YTP could escape the unholy gaze of Colgate's lawyers
>>152941993Smart phones made it so everyone can have access to the internet. When internet use became a everyday part of life that's when corporations came and made everything profit driven and now we live in the hell we're currently in.
>>152941993>How did internet humor go from this pure SOVL in the 2000s to the modern day of everything being a fucking wojak?A combination of everyone being on the internet all the time and attention spans shortening. You could put effort into making a clever way to call someone a faggot, or you could use an existing image that does it already because you know you'll probably see a dozen other retarded comments that day, and none of them are worth more effort.

>>152951257hahah awesome
>>152945275>>152944945Same... the influx of shit was much lower. You basically had to search for it, instead of it being thrown into your eyes all the time.
