Marvel has permanently ended the Ultimate universe, and come to you, given you full reign to create the next big Marvel continuity. They want you in charge of crafting an all-new Marvel universe that is completely separate from 616 and both Ultimates, and will get tons of attention and ongoing series. The only stipulation is that it can't follow 616 too closely, and you have to have significant enough departures and interpretations of the characters. Other than that, you are free to do whatever you want with the universe, the setting, and the way the major characters are portrayed.A. How do you do it, B. what do you do differently, and C. which run will you start with?
>>152942828I make it all revolve around the X-Men.It's old hat to say that X-Men should be its own universe, and that it doesn't make sense that people are cool with some super powered heroes but hate Mutants. So I'd just put money where the mouth is. Make it primarily X-Men. Spider-Man is a Mutant. Captain America was an attempt to make an artificial Mutant. The Fantastic Four are Mutants, but their X-gene was dormant until the space accident which sets off a new wave of scientific inquiry about potential dormant mutants and giving adults super powers. It'd probably suck, but whatever.I think the key to making a successful spin off universe might be to narrow the scope. Make everything consistent with each other. Make connections between character origins where there wasn't before. Have a planned story with a beginning, middle and end. It makes it all more digestible for new readers
Near-future full of cyborgs, A.I.M. pivoting to consumer goods and providing military hardware to world governments, and human experimentation. It is often raining, and instead of fixing pollution problems, humans were modified to survive air and water that would kill those today. Spider-Man is a mass-produced series of combatants, but considered outdated by current standards. The Spider-Man we follow is essentially a beat cop who fights randoms on the streets. His memories of the past are pre-installed ones that every other Spider-Man has, but he is gradually develops individuality from bonding with civilians in his precinct. Majority of opponents are terrorists who hate the current world order, scientists who left A.I.M. to pursue their own ambitions, crime lords from the 19th to early 20th centuries in synthetic bodies, or unregistered individuals. Mutants are a general underclass that is assumed to be a result biology adapting to the poor quality. 90% have useless or detrimental abilities, but those 10% carry the rest on their backs with fearsome abilities. They are in a state of asymmetric war with the government and seek to make a world of mutant rule.
>>1529428281) a fucking ban on 616 ships. Peter can have sex with anyone, men, women, dogs if you want, EXPECT MJ, Black Cat, Gwen Stacy and all other whores he dated in 616. Banned. Can't even interact.2) enforce Marvel time. 3 years equal one year. Period. No, you fucking can't keep Peter 28 forever. If you reached the book at a period when Peter is already 36, then TOO BAD. You write him as 36.3) Can't add powers as the plot demands. All characters have their set of powers established. You want Miles to be the savior of an unwinnable fight, then fucking write him out with his powers. You can't give him new ones.
>>152942828There are several major issues that plague the Western comic book industry. I say this as someone who basically stopped reading comics in 2008. They are:>Thematic Inconsistency>Crossovers/Shared Universe>Parallel Issues>Poor Worldbuilding>(Virtue Signaling) but I'm willing to put this one aside. What do I mean by this? First off, you need to decide what the theme of the comic is going to be. Right now you have mutants next to wizards next to robots next to training. Fuck that. Focus on one, maybe two things. I like magic and parapsychology, so we're gonna go with that. The main premise is magic exists and most people can access it, but to be really good at it, you need the equivalence of an MD/PhD (4 years at uni, 3 years of grad school, 2-4 years of apprenticeship) so most people don't bother. Then you have psionics. These are wild talents. You can do one, maybe two things that are "supernatural" but you're really good at them. There should be some restrictions on what psionics can do. Magic is technically unlimited, but the more powerful something is, the more effort/learning it requires. Next is the core cast. You need to focus on the level. I think regional is most interesting. We want to avoid any major political stuff, so let's focus on the Northeast USA since it's what I know. In the world of comic books that means we have NYC (always good), Boston/MA (all the cool university/ivy league stuff), Lovecraft country, and the untamed northern wilderness, old Indian stuff. Plus since the Canadian border is there, I guess. We can also move Atlantis closer to the coast, as well as Krakatoa the Living Island that moved closer to NYC as well. So now we have a lot of stuff to pull from and we shan't pull from anywhere else.
Supernatural needs to be on the same level as Street/Tech and Cosmic. Which is why Vampires are the reason for mutant hating rhetoric. The Cabal for centuries has kept the world of darkness in the shadows with only a few hunters and sorcerers knowing of them, only to see Mutants as the perfect scapegoat to use to get everyone of their sent.
I put all my eggs in the MC2 basket
>Peter is retired and Mayday is Spidergirl.>Magneto is the director of Xavier school. >Jean never returned so Scott and Madelyne never split and his son is the new leader of the Xmen.>Tony got frozen 20 years and now is the same situation Steve was in the Silver Age.>Karen Page never died and married Daredevil Who retire.Just do this to bait nostalgia , you saw how people like It with USM and doing an Absolute will feel derivative because that line is still strong.
>>152944682All right, so that's the worldbuilding. Now we also need a good cast of characters. We want people that are cool and iconic, but fit within our magic/psychic only milieu. NYC means Spider-Man. Peter Parker was an chemistry and alchemy student working on adhesives, where his experiment drew the attention of a spider outsider. Fortunately the spider outsider and Peter Parker both have a desire for justice and making the world a better place, so the spider manifests itself as a symbiotic skin granting Spider-Man his usual powers as well as the symbiote suit. The Canadian border makes me think of Wolverine. He's a psionic that was born in the 1800s, and his psionic manifestation was regeneration. He was a bad bad man who pissed off a shaman, who cursed him to be "as vicious as a wolverine." He terrorized the land until he was captured by some Nebulous Evil Organization and altered via magic to be given orichalcum claws and skeleton. Eventually he broke through his conditioning blah blah blah and is now a good guy. Magik. I like Magik. We can keep her mostly the same. We'll say she was a psionic whose power is summoning a blade that can slice through enchantments and conjured creatures. This drew the attention of Belasco who kidnapped her to Limbo and taught her the rudiments of demonic magic. So now she can conjure armor and portals. She broke free, etc. Captain America. He was enchanted during WW2 to carry the Spirit of America. Sometimes it makes him a bit schizo, but usually he's pretty good. Idealistic. Maybe politically a bit tricky right now, but actually since most people who read comics dislike Trump, we could lean into it and say that he used to work for the government, but no longer does due to Trump. Or if we don't want to do that, we ignore the political aspects entirely and instead focus on the fact that Cap is here because this is where America (the nation and spirit) needs him.
>>152944873Now we have either one or two slots open. If we go with the standard 5 man band, we got:The Hero - Cap, duhThe Lancer - Magik, because she's very opposite to Cap in a lot of ways but also similar to himThe Smart Guy - Spider-Man, since he's a college ladThe Big Guy - Wolverine, because duhThe Heart - ???So we need the emotional guy/gal and maybe one more person who shows up occasionally. I like Black Cat and she has luck-altering powers and has had a fling with Peter Parker in the past. Okay, she's in as the specialist when the team needs to be quiet. I also think that in the end the two of them need to end up together, but that's just a personal opinion. Anyway, she's the periodic member, so now we need someone who is the Heart of the group. Looking at the demographics here, we have 3 dudes and two women, but putting a chick as the Heart feels too on-the-nose. We want someone who is a flyer/scout. What about the Wasp? We can score points by having her leave her abusive husband and she has some commonality with Peter being insect themed. Plus she's cute. Okay. Wasp is in, and her role is emotional support. We'll make her a brilliant scientist who was overshadowed by her egotistic abusive husband. Make her slightly older too, to appeal to Millenials and Gen X. Okay. So now we have our protagonists. As to why they're working together, well, Captain as the Spirit of America has a supernatural sense of when something is going to threaten America as a whole. So he knows it's in the Northeast, he knows it's gonna happen in 3 years and so he uses his contacts to find these people and recruit them. We'll call them the Mystic Avengers. Why no Dr. Strange or Dr. Doom? Dr. Strange IS the Sorcerer Supreme so he's off doing Supreme stuff, so he's in other dimensions most of the time. We'll deal with Doom later or not at all. He can't be sidelined because he's too powerful and interesting but he can't be the primary antagonist either. Speaking of...
>>152942828All superheroes are replaced with Paul Rabin, and all villains are replaced with powerless, short, scrawny, pathetically weak versions of Peter Parker.
Who are our antagonists? Well, let's just draw from our existing corpus. Venom. Spidey has his symbiote suit, so I'm thinking with the law of equivalent exchange or whatever, a hunting spider spirit also came through and possessed Brock Samson or whatever his name is. Whatever. Rival to Peter. Counters him perfectly. HYDRA as the opposition to Captain America and Wolverine. Refluff them mystical culists who also make tech and weapons. We got Red Skull who is... a vampire skeleton haemokinetic. And his assistant Stryker who comes from a line of witch hunters. Magik is opposed by Belasco a demonic sorcerer who seeks to usurp Magik from her throne as the Queen of Limbo and is just an evil sorcerer jerk. I've never heard of White Fox before Rivals, but I fell in love because fluffy tail. She can be in opposition to the Black Cat and Captain because she works for the government, but she's not actually a bad guy. Mid-way through the series she'll be an ally instead. Wasp is opposed by her ex-husband, the Ant King. He is a specialist in technology and wants her back as his Queen. We also need some one-offs and supporting cast members. Emma Frost is apparently from Massachussets, so she's in as is the Hellfire Club. We'll make them elitist wealthy magicians AND psions. Using that we can introduce some other people. They can be a mid-series group they defeat. As far as the overarching Evil Plan? HYDRA has recruited the Ant King and Belasco to create a bunch of robotic golems, aka the S.E.N.T. I. N. E. L. project. Except what they don't know is that they're gonna go berserk. We can even include an anti-AI message when they show up. Venom is a brute that occasionally menaces the party. And the last shot? A messenger bows and says that "My Lord, the Sentinel project as failed." A gauntleted metal fist wrapped in a green cloak shoots a beam which disintegrates the man. And the line "Fools. It looks like Doom will have to come for them personally."
>>152945220Let's say we're going to go for a 24-issue run over the course of a year. If mango artists can do it, so can Westerners.Issues 1-5: Cap identifies the problem, recruits Spidey, Magik, Wolverine. Encounter with Venom.Issues 6-12: Wasp joins. Nebulous org recruits Ant King. Group encounters Hellfire Club at a party, has some fighting, HYDRA hinted at. Encounter with Sentinel prototype, party gets ass kicked. Issues 13-18: Black Cat joins occasionally. White Fox interferes. Belasco kidnaps people for sacrifice, trap for Magik. Some extra-dimensional stuff and then worldbuilding.Issues 18-24: HYDRA master plan revealed. Team fights and win, but Sentinels go berserk and reveal Master Mold. Party fights. Sacrifice by one of them (Magik or Wolverine). Doom revealed as mastermind.
>>152942828>How do you do it?It's mostly the same world. I would create an equivalent of the JSA born out of the Invaders after WW2 that would protect the world until the mid 60s, the current heroes will start appearing in the 90s. A much bigger role for the cosmic and magic side. Fantastic Four, Avengers and two teams from the cosmic and magic side would be the main group of the universe.>What do you do differently? No fights between heroes. No constant events. If a legacy character get made the original get written off so the new one doesn't end up being a parassite. >Which run will you start with?Fantastic Four
>>152943093>it doesn't make sense that people are cool with some super powered heroes but hate MutantsSpider-Man, Captain America and the Hulk haven't spent the past 30 years building compounds to train child militias they kidnap from their homes in preparation for the multiple race wars they've startedHawkeye and Black Widow may have started out as criminals and even killed some people, but they haven't left a graveyard the size of a small city behind them on their way from the cigar store to the bar
>>152945111This would sell so much they'd be taking manga off the shelves to give it more room
I would go with an MC2-esque branch reality where The Squadron Supreme never went home during Avengers Annual 1998 and became Earth's Mightiest Heroes after The Avengers went missing.Arno Stark also exists here and has taken Tony's place as Iron Man as well as the head of Stark-Fujikawa and has an army of Mainframe units at his disposal.
>>152942828Marvel 1966Treating the first epic collections for Spiderman, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Captain America, Antman, Avengers, Ironman, Thor, and Dr strange, the goal would be to find a way to tie all these books together and find a satisfying end to all the ongoing stories at that point without retelling stories that would come later.
>>152945018With all due respect: why do you think you need to strictly adhere to this trope-based group composition? You yourself bemoan needing to stick to it, citing the Heart being a chick as “too on-the-nose,” yet you concede and put Wasp on the roster anyways.

>>152948129>hire real writersgood fucking luck with thatnot even actual books can offer those nowadays
>>152944767I put all my seed in her eggs.>>152942828I've posted my symbiote planet idea before so I'll come up with a new one.Maybe a world where Cap Universe, Starbrand, and other cosmic heroes/villains have a prehistoric fight on Earth and around it that leads to the Celestials commemorating this victory by creating life on this planet. However this great victory leads to an imbalance where the forces of evil are going to come back with a vengeance using entities like Chthon and Mephisto to cause hell to overflow and demons are much more of a problem as well as angels now coming down to also fight on Earth. Except it is a small amount of demons and angels at a time as well as Norse, Greek, Asian, etc. gods also walk the Earth with them being chosen by their respective groups to represent them which is part of a primevel treaty. So like Blackheart and Hercules are representative of their whole group so to speak while Mephisto and Thor are another rep for their groups. Dracula and other such literary or myth villains are also part of this. This leads to an Earth that is actually farther behind in tech than regular 616. So something like Iron Man's armor takes a whole team of people to maintain as tech in general has regressed due to massive battles between gods/demons throughout history. Yet this is a secret fight, so the average civilian is unaware until the first book with Ghost Rider starts.Iron Man has a whole Airforce crew and multiple employees who each have their own suits with himself being like a Dr. Light-type older figure who has robots under his care as well. Also Thing in this reality is Hulk's rival/adversary, a representative of the TOAA, while Hulk is TOBA's obviously.S.H.I.E.L.D. is much more of a big deal where they only have one helicarrier but it is super tough and it isn't gonna crash anytime soon and so it is vital against all villains and demons. Maybe Taskmaster is the leader of it.
It’s not meant as a pitch so much as a fanfic, but I’ve spent the past 3 years working on a universe-wide reimagining. Marvel 513, roughly summarizable as “the Ultimate Universe(1610) if it didn’t suck.”

>>152942828I grab five or so random Pixiv westaboo artists and authors, and put out Superhero Shonen Jump. No continuity between titles is enforced beyond what the artists do or do not want to do of their own volition. I emphasize that the designs of female characters should be the opposite of what the loudest westerners want. It would honestly be that simple.
>During WW2, The U.S. Government created a covert squad of Super-Powered individuals to assist in military operations: The Avengers. This team was founded by the leader of the American Institute of Machines, Hank Pym, who had started a split venture into human genetic engineering, hoping to assist in the war effort. The team consisted of Ant-Man (Hank Pym, capable of using his suit to shrink and grow and communicate with insects), Captain America (genetically enhanced super-soldier Steve Rogers), Stingray (A 10 year old boy who got amnesia after going overboard on a cruise washed up on an island, he spent his teen years learning how to swim and survive on his own, and called himself Namor. He was eventually found and adopted at age 16 by The Navy, and would go on to become Stingray), Wolverine (Mutant Caveman who was found frozen in ice, with natural regeneration and bone-claws that he can't retract, given an Adamantium skeleton and trained for war.), and Bucky Barnes (Hank Pym's son, who was saved from going blind with Hank's intervention, which also gave him superhuman eyesight and marksmanship.) >After WW2, Hank recalled the circumstances he found Wolverine in, and when The Government proposed having his Avengers frozen in cryostasis in case of another great war, he agreed to freeze them. All except for himself and Bucky. >During the Cold War, AIM contributed to the U.S. Space Program, which led to the Fantastic Four getting their powers in a space-launch. In this continuity, Reed not only gains the ability to stretch, but also an enhanced, already-great intellect as well. AIM then launches The Fantastic Four as the first (Publically known) superhero team.
>>152953773>Behind the scenes at AIM, Hank wishes to retire, so he leaves his company in the hands of a board of directors he dubs "Intellegencia". Howard Stark of Stark Industries, Alvin Tarleton, Victor Doom, Charles Xavier, and Max Eisenhardt. Howard Stark, an experienced businessman and inventor, was brought in to lead these young and budding minds at the head of the company. Howard was also left with ULTRON, a computer intelligence created by Hank, meant to advise Howard and Intellegencia in decision-making.>Over the next few years, Hank Pym and Bucky both disappear (Into the microverse), leaving Howard with only Ultron to go to for assistance with leading Intellegencia and AIM. Which quickly falls into disarray.>Victor leaves for his home country of Latveria after exposing himself to artificial cosmic radiation in an attempt to replicate the Fantastic Four's powers. This permanently scars his face, leading him to go into villainy, forever hating the Fantastic Four.>Charles and Xavier discover the X-Gene, and a virus latent in Wolverine's frozen body, which can activate it. This virus spreads to Charles and Xavier and reveals them both as Mutants. As the Virus spreads through humanity, the two have to leave AIM to manage the virus they released, as Mutants are much more abnormal-looking than they are in the 616 continuity.>Alvin, the last of two members of Intellegencia, is easily manipulated by ULTRON. ULTRON starts viewing morality as an impediment to science (his prime directive), so he convinces Alvin to murder Howard Stark and take full power over AIM, which he renames Advanced Idea Mechanics. >(Young Tony Stark, at age 11, ends up inheriting Stark Industries as a result.)
>>152953865>Now we're in like, the 80s-90s. >Alvin goes on to have a son, George Tarleton. George isn't very smart, and at age 17, Alvin has him turned into MODOC, inspired by how Cosmic Radiation was capable of turning Reed Richards into the smartest man on the planet. MODOC is largely docile, serving its purpose as a supercomputer for AIM in peace.>Around this time, Oscorp is founded by the Osborne family, with an interest in resuming research started by Hydra to replicate the Super-Soldier serum. Oscorp ends up being responsible for the creation of The Hulk and Spider-Man, with relatively unchanged origins in this universe, as well as the creation of various super-villains.>It is also at this time that Oscorp's digging in Hydra's old bases accidentally reactivates the computerized Arnim Zola, who restarts Hydra in the "modern" era. Hydra's main interest is exploiting all the public disorder and fear over Mutants in order to attain power. Their activity attacking mutants radicalizes Max, who splits ideologically with Charles Xavier and becomes the Mutant Supremacist Magneto.>In the midst of all these years of chaos, the existence of The Avengers from WW2 ends up getting leaked by high-schooler and photographer Peter Parker, who's investigating AIM and its funding of Oscorp and how that ties to the re-emergence of Hydra.>The Government orders that The Avengers be freed from cryostasis, and AIM has to oblige, though this causes AIM to publicly renounce the government and stop cooperation with them afterwards.>Wolverine is acclimated to modern society with the Psychic assistance of Charles Xavier, who suggests The Government take some cues from his recently founded team of X-Men, and create their own Superhero team.
>>152954048>We're firmly in the late 90s now.>Tony Stark hears about the new Avengers initiative, and having suspicions now about his Father's death potentially being the fault of Alvin, creates the Iron-Man armor to join the team, consisting of Captain America, The Hulk, Wolverine, and Stingray. >AIM, now firmly in supervillain territory, is public enemy number one. Alvin isn't entirely capable of handling the stress of managing AIM, which he mostly leaves up to ULTRON. >Alvin decides to try to contact his former boss, Hank Pym, through the Quantum Realm, where he suspects he disappeared to. >ULTRON intercepts this signal and impersonates Hank. As Hank, he convinces Alvin to give full control to ULTRON, and then finally kill himself.>MODOC witnesses this, and seeing himself as the true heir to AIM, changes his programming from MODOC to MODOK, and starts a civil war within AIM, attempting to take over the organization. I think I'll leave it there for now.

Blake, being someone Victor is intended to be used as an unwitting mule and instead ends up instinctively grabbing the hammer to defend someone.Doom, intrigued, secretly goads supervillains he knows won't be able to lift Mjolnir to fight the new Thor, hoping to secretly test the extent of his acquired powers. Pulled into the modern Avengers, the neo-Blake is shown the ropes by his in-setting peers.Doom is ultimately revealed to want the hammers magic because he's a Doombot successor to the original who wants to study the magic to make himself human. Not because he's torn up about being a robot, just because he's curious. No cosmic shit, no X-gene, none of that. Thor's hammer is never explained. What if we did those now? Change a few things around, put a bigger emphasis on superhumans (or 'Marvels' if you wanna be corny) as freaks... But not in the way you probably think. Make it bright, colorful, optimistic, maybe a little scary? Keep very little backstory, the main events start on [current year] aside from a few obvious exceptions like Cap or Magneto. Still, this is a new start.>which run will you start with?Any good Marvel universe should start with the F4... Brave adventurers on the far future of year 2026, the basics are the same, no need to fix what isn't broken: Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Ben Grimm... And team hotshot, their old android friend Jim Hammond. They go to space on an experimental mission that goes wrong when their ship is struck by a cosmic singularity, bombarding them with cosmic beams... Reed gets the hard-to-control ability to stretch his body, Sue can manipulate light to make things invisible, Ben was outside the ship so he gets the worst part: He transforms into a large quadruped spider-like alien being unable of speech and covered in space rocks.. Jim's systems overheat, but he gains the capacity to control the fire he now constantly generates.Needless to say, when they make it back they look like body horror monsters and it's quite a shock to everyone, including their friends and family like Sue's NEET brother Johnny who at this point joins forces with them as they try to reverse their conditions... Reed is discredited and the 4 go into seclusion in the Baxter Building, but they do not give up. The Spider-Man, a mexican luchador turned supervillain for profit with all the powers of a spider... And many other characters who I have frankly not thought about yet.As the Fantastic 4 struggle against the machinations of Doom and other villains, their legend grows, and so does their fame! She goes on self-contained crazy espionage adventures with many love interests and quirky over-the-top villains for the secret agency known as SHIELD.>The X-Men is about two dying old men who extended their lives artificially trying to continue the fight they started all the way back in the 40's. You know the deal. Pretty black and white stuff, until the appearance of a third faction: Reverend Stryker and his 'god-approved' superhero Nimrod, who claim mutants as a whole are bad. Loyalties will get muddy and beliefs will be challenged. How much value do the dreams of those bitter old men really have?

the prevalence of these threads makes me believe Marvel editorial is desperate for story pitches
>>152957099PART THREE>Fantastic Four find the cure to various cancers through experimentation with Mr. Negative's DNA and Pim particles.>Anne Weying has a brief stint as She-Venom while Eddie is in a coma early in his career.>Government captures Venom again to create a new Hybrid, end up with Sleeper(who has a personality similar to a young Peter Parker). >Eddie's face when foster runaway Dylan shows up at his door.>Knull is killed in the symbiote war, ending with Flash's death and Ben's identity being revealed.>Thor and Jane Foster have a kid.>She-Hulk and Wyatt Wingfoot get married and often talk about whether they should have kids.
>>152942828Maybe something like the Raimi universe. Just a universe with like 5 super heroes for the entire planet and most of them are stuck in a city like Spider-Man. Play on themes of humanity and the core themes of the 5 heroes we chose. No cross over nonsese just nice self contained stories that might reference each other loosely. They also never get any sidekicks and once all 5 of them are dead its basically a normal earth. Id just love some core Marvel story telling without the baggage of a bigger world.
