One criticism I have of this show is that a lot of things that happen on screen feel like they should have happened way earlier off screen at some point. For example in episode 5 they're sitting around the bar talking about their backstories and lives before the circus. They've been trapped together for years, that was the first time they ever decided to talk about their past lives? Pomni figured out in episode 8 that Kinger is lucid in the dark and knows more about the circus then he lets on so you'd think right after that adventure she'd meet up with Kinger in a dark place and talk with him to try and figure out what's going on, but she waits until Caine is going insane in episode 8 to ask him? Speaking of Kinger he knows that he could alter Caine's code and basically anything in the circus if he had access to a computer terminal so why didn't he try and do that earlier? He's been there for over 10 years you'd think he'd eventually come across a computer in an adventure somewhere and see if he could mess with the code to try and bring back abstracted characters like his wife or something. Still a good show but this is the only issue that bothers me consistently.

The cast want Caine to essentially be their therapist and solve all their problems, but that's not possible, either, because it's not what Caine was designed for.

Jax was always obviously going to be the antagonistic character who's kind of a thorn in the side of the main cast until the very end and is actually the true "antagonist" who outlives the main one (though in this case by "antagonist" I'm mainly just referring to the fact that he's a problem that still needs to be dealt with). I think it's Japanese media that tends to have characters like that, which is why some people didn't realize. At least I think so, I can't really name any other characters in Western cartoons that are like this outside of like fucking Alastor.

The entire game is about the main cast confronting some insecurity about themselves and confronting it, after you go through a dungeon and do big JRPG fight against their shadow version, they accept that part of themselves and then become a party member in your team. Later on there's a character who also has a dungeon and a boss fight, but he's so obviously fucked (and the game makes it obvious as shit, especially with his design, also with the fact that he's not in the main intro or box art or anything like that, kek, he's just a fucking NPC) that after you beat him, he doesn't properly confront himself and doesn't become a party member. This is basically what I think Caine is, the negative example to all the positive examples we've gotten.
