Get rid of that too. Anyways, it depends. I like cartoons more by a country mile, but if you want to be free of western trappings you can go with anime. I don't want to just shit on it, but it is different, and I don't think the Japanese really make much animation worth seeing these days compared to years ago. All the anime people care about are old. Same with cartoons a lot of the time. Me, I prefer my animation with some humor, but I can't deny that some of the girls are cute, in a sterile, alien kind of way, usually. Another thing I like about cartoons more is they are less afraid to NOT be sterile. Anime tries to compensate for this by being edgier but really these are the fart jokes of eastern animation. Wow, another character died, whoopee.

A lot of it is so structurally unsound that it limits your posing options, and the flatness and abstractness of the designs locks artists into a tightly curated model sheet where nothing that isn't deliberately designed cannot by independently intuited. In other words, the window for hitting "on-modelness" is ironically smaller for cartoons.

The face-work lends itself for conveying emotions. The body-work can have great benefits to anatomical accuracy, which can really help with action scenes or with gore.And that is where you see the biggest hitters in Anime: martial arts flicks, drama with some sort of emotional message and porn.But mostly just the porn.
