Well, that explains where any sort of counterattack to the Aldish retreat went.
And most of the Gold riders went down attacking the shrine-city and capital.

She knows Tainish. Does she know the specific interaction, or lack thereof; thst Golds have with the Dhammakhert, and thus the Etalarche? Is she treating him like a person because he's a Gold. Or is she unconsciously realizing some disturbing thjngs about personhood in general?
>>
>>152951678
I mean, the soud were the dudes trying to rape and pillage the shrine there. They might not be affected by the etalarche specifically but there's little reason to think she'd give them a carveout.

Perhaps but she did just call him an automaton. Perhaps she considers him now no better than non gold alds in his current state. Or maybe even things this confirms her beliefs and that Alds just figured our how tot make the Dammakhert to pour their bullshit into a corpse.

I think Seeing a bunch of Ald loyalist go ape shit over a traitor.probably wouldn't have done much to her. However Vampire ass, he was fully on their side, dedicated his life to taking down Alderode, and was the supposed lover of Roger. Yet when the ward when down he was ready to kill Roger on the spot. Even if you did think Alds were people that would forever cast doubt on if they can be trusted. Even if you destroy the Dammakhert hubs they don't have to be in it for that shit to be triggered. Every non soud is a potential sleep agent. hell maybe even souds since it apparently sees souds born in the Damma as different from souds born outside.

In a way, Nora is right about Alds being automatons. However, handwaving everything Vampire and Roger did to change the system, Duane, even Quigs (and she'll never know the latter beat the Etalarche), limits her as a both a scientist and a person. Her research will never have the success it could have had because she carries such huge biases.
>>
>>152954149
She’s being reminded of the day she watched the Etalarche curse activate- the thing that convinced her Alds aren’t really human. She watched lovers attack and kill each other, saw a kid go crazy, and most likely had a hell of a time fighting her way through the mass of crazy, suicidal Aldish soldiers that tried to keep them from returning to Cresce. She’s being being reminded of one of the worst days of her life

Ultimately you have to understand Nora Pris is a fujo.A fujoshi. All the pymary and construct research and plotting are just secondary, subverted passions to her love of BL Yaoi is her sun, the (metaphorical) seme to the uke moon of her soul. But her OTP... was Roger and Mallory. And Alderode killed them, Alderode destroyed their love. So Alderode must die.
>>
>>152955030
Yeah but Nora clearly has piglike features
>>
>>152951548

>>
>>152955030
No, calling her a sow is perfect because she wasn't expecting that, and now she starting to crash out in front of all of the plod experts. You just know she was expecting a "bitch" or two or even "geffi".
>>
>>152955257
Duane confirmed fatphobic.
>>
I don’t think “Sow” is what got to her, Nora expects insults and sexism. It’s the reminder of one of the most terrifying moments of her life that got to her— and Duane is telling her that he got to see it all unfold, and that he finds it amusing.

Watching previously sane people go totally apeshit will wreck your perception.

Like she said, it was an awakening for her. It was the day she realized Alds could not truly be trusted, negotiated or compromised with.
>>
>I'm real and also I was there and I saw what shit you did
>why is nora freaking out
>>
>>152954149
She assumes Alds are fully programmable by the dammakhert and any personhood beyond that is a facade. She's not correct, ant Etelarche can't be used that way, but it is heavily implied that the prior queen's plan, and now Sonorie's, was to iterate on Etelarche to create mind control and force peace through it. Nora would end up creating what she already believes exists.

A moot point now, since the soul map is lost and the engineers who would have made use of it to modify the curse are dead from Sessine's spiteful tantrum. They would have to start all over again.
>>
>>152955871
>but it is heavily implied that the prior queen's plan, and now Sonorie's, was to iterate on Etelarche to create mind control and force peace through it. Nora would end up creating what she already believes exists.

To someone like Nora, the fact that such a thing is possible (or at least she believes it to be possible) is the same thing as it already being true. Alds can have their free will taken from them. If so, their free will was always a facade. Things are not changed, only revealed for what they always were.
>>
>>152951548
You really shouldn't have mentioned the other Soud was your brother, Duane, lest she check to see what prisoners she might have.
>>
>>152956105
She already knows he has a brother from his journal. She mentioned him a few pages ago. She just didn't realize they had met years ago.

I doubt she made the connection with Lem either. He's just a POW.
>>
>>152956233
>He's just a POW.
She's already hinted that she's going to "introduce" Duane to another prisoner. She is probably going to feed lemon to him when he goes into his nightly feral state, and yeah, knowing full well it's his brother.

Cope mentioned she does something worse than torture and be mean at the end of this scene. I expect that it involves feeding Duane a prisoner. It probably won't be Lemuel (because that makes certain events we know are coming entirely impossible), but it may be a Soud.

Or fortunately, because science bitch can't feed him to Duane.
>>
>>152957160
He already is. Bird plods got him. I already think the odds of Duane cooperating with Sonorie are very low, worse if Nora feeds him a prisoner, nonexistent if it's someone he knows, a child, or a Plat child.

And they almost certainly WILL need his cooperation. Whatever half assed work around this rabble of rented necromancers manages to put a leash on him, Sette has unbreakable administrative access.

Every time I see the pain can I think of the Cenobites from Hellraiser and how they'd consider this method a cheap and uninspired way to inflict pain and try to destroy it on principle.
>>
>>152957397
"Where is the artistry in this? Kids these days only care about instant suffering, they haven't learned the value of an honest day's torture."
>>
>>152957505
Cans! Can you imagine? Mass-produced, pasteurized agony, squeezed from some sad little factory floor where the screams are all synthetic and the hooks come pre-lubricated with regret. They grab a Beadman pain can: lukewarm, fizzing torment with artificial aftertaste. No depth. No soul. Just... convenient pain. Accessible Agony for the wrong sort of wright
But at Cenobite Farms, we do things the old-fashioned way.
Our pain is free-range.
That's right. Our exquisite suffering wanders vast, gothic pastures of rusted chains and weeping flesh, under the eternal twilight of a sky that has never known mercy. Our flesh harvests—hand-selected, leather-clad, and beautifully pierced—roam free, exploring the furthest reaches of sensation without a single additive. No mass produced, uninspired sorrow. No muted horror harvested from another Sharte orphan. Just pure, organic, artisan agony... carved out with the utmost care by our devoted order of the Gash.

>>152957397

>>
>>152957397
What's more, it's a shameless waste of pymaric resources. Granted, it's efficient because it's pure pain. But if pure efficiency was what you wanted, just use fire! No one has secrets from flame.
>>
>>152958262
You can only wrap someone's testicles in paper and set them on fire once. Maybe twice.
>>
>>152958333
>You can only wrap someone's testicles in paper and set them on fire once. Maybe twice.
But you can take the testicles from a dozen dead men, connect them all to someones system like they did Duane's new face, and set them all on fire at once.
Then replace them with a new set to do it again.
A properly motivated wright could literally build a perpetual motion testicle burning device
>>
>>152958430
The khert accounts for you having all your limbs and face meats so prosthetics can plug into place neatly, I don't know if scientists have cracked giving a dude 30 testes

You don't want to be that crude when using fire. You work your way up to doing serious damage. And testicles are always late game. The threat of emasculation is more powerful than the actual emasculation.

You'll never get anything from a man that they held back through emasculation.
>>
>>152960345
better safe than sorry in case one grows wrong
>>
lol at the ask wondering what Duane could say to convince Nora. Neither one of these two want to convince the other of anything. They're getting EXACTLY what they want out of each other. Besides, you know, an ignominious death.
>>
>>152961352
>You don't want to be that crude when using fire
Fire is not famously a refined thing
People have been torturing each other for thousands of years, we've developed all kinds of specialised implements for it, no self respecting inquisitor or board of punishments officer is going to just have a go at you with fire
>>
>>152961451
>They're getting EXACTLY what they want out of each other.
sex
>>
>>152957629
The concentrated pain is specifically sharpest agony. The Cenobites would hate it because it involves no artistry, but it's not ineffective or in any way lukewarm. It truly is painslop too: harvested from real broken hearts, ripped nerves and torture aficionados but then self-replicated, because you can leech the memories created in one canned torture session - eventually - into your new distillation. Infinite canned torture, pulled spread into and re-pulled from the khert, forever.

I feel about that the same way I feel about e.g. Star Trek's there are five lights - if it's just pain with no damage, I suspect it's quite a lot easier to resist than if they start slicing bits off you. No one’s admitting it as a point of pride. We’re just stating a fact. This was a formative part of a lot of our upbringing and for many of us, it took years to grow out of our knee-jerk hate and fear.

We’re not the only country with this reaction in our history— it’s a human experience, not an American one. It’s just that for most Americans born before 1995, this was the most recent event for them— Ashley Cope included among that number.

Political instability and refugee crises owing largely to Western map-drawing and constant incorrigible meddling, with a chaser of man-made environmental change (the Syrian war shortly followed after a milllion or more farmers moved towards the urban areas as a result of unprecedented drought).
