The target demographic for traditional male-lead shows hasn't watched cartoons for years. Boys dropped cartoons and action figures for vidya and internet forums in droves around 20-25 years ago and never turned back. The only guys still watching cartoons are in their 30s, and unfortunately the 30-year-old bachelor audience is hard for a company like Disney to appeal to without it turning condescending.
