We often talk about the costumed criminals on /co/, but rarely do we talk about the bad guys who have crime down to a business. Who are some of your favorites, be they Marvel or DC? Anyone else fascinated at the idea of nameless henchmen, gangsters, and goons trying to make a name for themselves while kicking up to the people in charge? Off the top of my head there's

DC
>The Penguin
>Black Mask
>Brick
>Bruno Manheim and his Intergang
>Whale
>Two-Face
>Ventriloquist & Scarface
>Rupert Thorne

Marvel:
>Kingpin
>The Owl
>Crime Master
>Tombstone
>Jigsaw
>Hammerhead
>Silvermane
>The Hood
>Mister Negative
>Madame Masque
>Slug

What's stopping the regular police who are after these people from arresting them? In real life most of these guys are never known. In comics, all know their name.

We as the audience have unique perspective and knowledge the common man and system lacks. IRL everyone knew who Al Capone was, the problem was proving that he did anything wrong in court (that is until the IRS got him). Take Penguin for example; dude keeps his beak clean, and is largely considered legitimate in public. It's hard to pin a lot of shit back to him, and have a solid case. That's why the FBI monitors criminal organizations for months, to make airtight cases and put them away longer.

Because they associate with superpowered guys who tear the Police to shreds or any twat with a gun effortlessly. Hell several of the mob types have superpowers themselves, Count Nefaria probably being the most untouchable since he's got an absolute busted powerset and can fight whole Avengers team solo.

While the stories have been hit or miss recently, I do think it is a good idea to shift Tombstone as Spider-Man's go-to mob adversary since Daredevil kind of has a claim on Kingpin for the most part. Granted Fisk works with any number of street heroes, but given their history it has become very personal. Plus Tombstone has that Robbie Robertson connection

That's what Spectacular did, and for that exact reason.

Actually Spectacular did it for legal reasons. They wanted Kingpin, they just couldn't get the rights. But it kinda worked out

Is that image from the first Arkham game?

Yes

Tombstone's best feature to me is his ability to use his influence to get super powered bad guys created on demand. I think if there was ever a live-action Spider-Man TV series (which there will never be again, for many reasons) Tombstone would be a great recurring antagonist.

Yeah back when character cards had concept art instead of character models. Frankly its the better Penguin design. I'm tired of people trying to "Fix" Oswald. You get the mutant shit from Burton, the twink crap from Gotham, the awful mask from the Telltale game, and then you get "Oz Cobb" from The Batman. He doesn't need fixing, he's perfect as is. He's threatening, and honestly one of Batman's more successful adversaries. Cobblepot rarely, if ever, serves time.

People usually forget this, but Tombstone's voice is supposed to be a whisper due to fucked up vocal cords
>>
But multiple of the people you listed don't even bother doing normal crime things in favor of super nonsense or just trying to kill a superhero most the time. Just wear "mobster" as a visual gimmick at most.

Trying to kill the opposition is merely a fraction of the business. They all have successful empires or at least bits of turf they have to run. Black market shit, trade in weapons, drugs, etc.

Which is why it never gets depicted and instead you have them go after next new magic McGuffin?

If you want, go pitch a GCPD style book to Brubaker, only its focused on the mob villains. He did Incognito

Kingpins long lost son

Penguin's design peaked at Burgess Meredith, it's the perfect look/depiction.
