He was a beloved member of the Avengers for a long time, but it feels like now he's just a pathetic goober that is barely tolerated. Can the character be saved?
>>
Hmm...how about making him the leader of The Thunderbolts and tossing out Fraction's characterization of him?
>>
>>152984050
That version of Clint's goal is going to horribly backfire.
>>
>>152984214
Yeah, but at least it would be fun to read, especially once everything goes to hell in a handbasket.
>>
>>152984050
looks all these characteres, were are they now?
>>
>>152984280
Last I heard Whirlwind was in Ravencroft, not sure about everyone else.
>>
>>152984050
If you try to take a character seriously that was made into a joke, you're "trying too hard" and the mockery will only increase. See Penance.
>>
>>152983942
Having him be a frumpy, doughy middle aged ugly guy in the movies sure didn't help.
>>
>>152983942
Sure, you just ditch Fraction’s take and go back to the mask version of the character as put him in Avengers
>>
>>152983942
Bendis turned him into a joke character
>>
>>152984436
Bendis also brought him back and made him Ronin and bang Spider-Woman

I'd say it was Fraction who made him a joke
>>
>>152984312
Hawkeye wasn't an angsty self-harming type. He was still sometimes used for comedic relief, but his skill and beliefs were genuine.
>>
I just find Green Arrow more fun
>>
>>152983942
>>
>>152983942
Beloved?
He was a fixture and that's about it.
And his costume sucks.
>>
Brevoort despises Hawkeye because he wasted a huge chunk of political capital getting him a solo book after Thunderbolts got cancelled and it flopping so badly that he nearly got fired as Avengers editor, leading directly to Bendis's reign of terror
>>
What the fuck. This isn't something you could claim is "he wrote his own profile" since he was negative over his lack of education at times.
>>
>>152985409
>Brevoort despises a fictional character for his own personal fuckup.
That definitely sounds like the fat man.
>>
>>152984436
For once I don’t think you can blame Bendis. After he brought him back Clint had it pretty good under Bendis.
It’s mainly the MCU and Fraction’s fault
>>
>>152983942
Matt Fraction decided to make him kind of a dork and it stuck. That coupled with the MCU's popularity making everyone view him as the token useless human on the Avengers with a lame power set.
>>
Hawkeye isn't my favorite Avenger (Hank Pym) but I don't think I could possibly make a team without him.
>>
>>152986316
One day Pymbro, we'll be back on top
>>
>>152986936
>>152986316
You had your chance with pym-tron.
Let it go.

>Beloved?
Yes.
>>
>>152986987
Why would people who like Pym let it go when he's finally back and doing things?
>>
>>152986256
The memes were notorious with Avengers vs X-Men
>>
>>152988356
That was around the time Fraction's run started
>>

>Hypno guy copping feel off Titania

Brave way to go.

>>152984280
Absorbing Man and Titania continue to be support villians for anyone.
Wrecking crew are portable jobbers.
Task Master occasionally shows up for mercing.
>>
>>152985409
If he truly hates on Hawkeye, Viz, and Wanda and still keeps Dark Beast going, I truly have no idea how these people even enjoy Avengers or Marvel comics.
>>
>>152986256
>For once I don’t think you can blame Bendis. After he brought him back Clint had it pretty good under Bendis.
Hawkeye used to be such a rigid moralfag about Avengers not killing that he crashed his own marriage over his wife refusing to save the life of her rapist. Then Benis has Clint just killing bad guys like it's no big deal.

Maybe he didn't mistreat Hawkeye in the way Fraction did, but he got the basic foundational stuff so badly wrong that it may as well not even be the same guy anymore.

With Marvel Comics still being full of Quesada-era people, or people who started reading from that era, it's probably not surprising that disinterest or outright disdain for a lot of the classic Avengers is widespread, most of them were absent for a lot of the big events of the 2000s, or only appeared in them in very negative ways. But I don't get the sense there's the dislike of Hawkeye the way people at Marvel disliked Wanda and Vision (especially as a couple), or the way they dislike Beast. It's more like the Avengers book just left him behind and nobody at Marvel seems to think this was a bad move, every attempt at a solo book has failed, every attempt at putting him in another team book has failed, so they've just given up on doing much with him. It's sort of like how they tried a lot of Black Widow solo books in the 2010s, none of them really lasted, and now she's dead in the MCU they don't feel like they NEED to keep trying anymore, and they don't know what to do with her that would actually sell anyway.
>>
>>152990022
It's been a bit since I've read it, who does Clint kill in that run? I don't recall anything major off the top of my head
>>
>>152990583
The Avengers haven't felt like themselves since Busiek's run ended
>>
>>152990621
A bunch of Skrulls during Secret Invasion, he goes on a whole murder rampage after one of them impersonates Mockingbird. And he tried to assassinate Norman Osborn during Dark Reign. I think there was more, but it's been years since I've read it.
>>
>>152990688
Even that run did Wanda and Vision dirty just so Brevoort could deliberately make fans mad though. He's always been that guy.

The Geoff Johns run afterwards still felt like Avengers, no matter how much the She-Hulk waifufags here reee about it. After that, I suppose the run that just ended is as close as you're going to get.
>>
>>152985071
For years it was the opposite. But I think the Arrow-verse (and a little Smallville) make the character look better with the normafag audience.
>>
>>152990691
Killing Skrulls seems to have been permitted in general at the time since they were aliens. Considered war conditions.
>>
>>152990894
It's not like there's a big Avengers space war storyline where there's a team schism over killing and Hawkeye's on the no-kill side or anything, is it?
>>
>>152991701
That wasn't during the war itself, but regarding what to do with the Supreme Intelligence for orchestrating it including the mass-killing of the Kree people that follow it. Slightly different conditions.
>>
>>152983942
>What happened to Hawkeye?
Lol I dunno
>>
>>152991837
Seems like a guy willing to save space Hitler and his wife's rapist would buck against killing sentient life in a war. Even more so on murdering a normie when avengers have come back from worst.
>>
>>152983942
I'm still pretty flabbergasted he wasn't in that recent, ill-fated WCA book that was alright. Seems like a waste not to have the guy.
>>
>>152983942
The MCU made him lame as fuck. His family segments in AOU were so annoying and made an already weak movie even shittier
