https://twitter.com/cartoonnetwork/status/2037703880578912451First clip from the Regular Show revival just dropped. The animation and voices are fucked.
>>152989407Fuck you this looks and sounds perfectly fine.
Seems fine to me.Look you guys were defending the KOTH revival with its shitty puppet animation so you have no right to complain here.
Looks fine... I can't tell if this is rigged or hand-drawn
Looks stiff and rigged as shitZombie CN era is fucking bleak
>>152989407rigby sounds bad, but that's it
If it IS rigged, they're stretching that shit to its limit because regular show's style isn't rig friendly.
https://twitter.com/jgquintel/status/2037707526096253129Uncropped version
>>152989522>because regular show's style isn't rig friendly.
>>152989526Animation looks the same, really. It seems that /co/ doesn't remember that Regular Show didn't have stellar animation after its first season.
>>152989526>720p>Twitter-compressed
>>152989466A lot of shows actually do both these days
>>152989559Most people on this board can't really tell the difference between rigged and hand drawn. At least not anymore
>>152989407I think they are emoting a tad more with their faces than they originally did which is why it feels weird
>ANON YOU BETTER DO YOUR FUCKING JOB LIKE I HIRED YOU TO DO INSTEAD OF JERKING OFF AND SHITPOSTING ON 4CHAN ALL DAY OR ELSE YOU ARE FIRED!!!
>>152989407>>152989526Some of it (like the head tilts or some arm motions, Mordecai's luau hands?) look close to on par with the original later seasons (or like, starting around season 4-5), but other aspects definitely send off red flags of rigged animation. Now that I'm seeing the widescreen version, Rigby's hand motions on "take a bite of that luau burger" join the list.>>152989145>>152989191>>152989248>>152989786Whether or not they're doing both hand-drawn and rigged bits, I'm expecting some more distracting moments of rigged throughout.
>>152989965Also the way Rigby in particular moves during the last luau wave motion at the end.
Serious question: Why is Gumball S7 the only revival where it feels like the animation actually improved? This looks bad.
>>152989429Yeah this doesn't look out of place from what the show normally looks like, it's not like the original was well animated to begin with
>>152990062Hannah barbera europe, simple as.
>>152990084Literally the same studio with a different name.
>>152989407>https://twitter.com/jgquintel/status/2037707526096253129So...its just more regular show? not a sequel show or a reboot or something just, heres more of the same from 10 years ago?
>>152990062It's probably because Gumball kept the same animation studio that did S1-S6 (Studio Soi). Most of the time when the animation gets crappy is not really due to budget, but because they switched the animation studios.Plus, Gumball is animated in Germany and some of the animators are fans of the show (if you look at their Twitter accounts, a lot of Studio Soi is very proud of working on Gumball). Most other shows are outsourced to South Korea where they often are just doing it for the paycheck and communication is minimal.
If Mordecai looks like this throughout the whole 40 episode season it's going to fuck my tism>>152990062I refuse to watch Fionna and Cake but AT definitely had a real budget both in its distant lands thing and FC judging from the animated bits I've endured from promos.>>152990072This is the same rhetoric people said about KoTH and the revival absolutely felt lifeless compared to even the later seasons which were stilted but still felt alive. The revival looked so fucking dead it would take me out of the immersion more often than not.Rigged animation can be good with talent and proper direction, but not when it's just a way to cheap out on something that was hand-drawn but now we won't even pay for that.
>>152990138You can tell it's rigged, again, because these heads follow the old ass model sheets. Mordecai's sideburn area curves out awkwardly and Rigby's rings around his eyes are now warped, but not in the loose and everchanging way they were in the earliest episodes, before they became perfect circles.Ironically despite looking more expressive or loose on their own, making the rings not perfect circles is what signifies they've cheapened out, because it shows they just took the old model sheets and tweaked them.>>152989559>Regular Show didn't have stellar animation after its first season. That's why it's alarming. They can't even afford the animation quality of the later Regular Show seasons when it wasn't that demanding nor were the designs realistically detailed like King of the Hill's. It was already a base level of simple and we still dropped down from the quality of season 8.I saw people hoping this being 10 years later and treated as a "new series" meant it'd have a fresh starter budget again and be expressive or have similar animation to the early seasons, but it's literally worse than the 8 season long runner's deterioration by the end. Even Close Enough had some loose and expressive animation, it actually did have a fresh starter budget. This feels like a Season 9 that got its budget slashed from 8.
>>152990258Internally I wouldn't be surprised if this is referred to as Regular Show Season 9 like how Gumball's revival kept getting called Season 7 by crew members talking about their work.
>>152989407This looks almost exactly the same, it actually looks better than the last few seasons, what are you bitching for OP?
>>152989407I must be retarded because I can't tell a difference between this animation and the old show. KoTH's new animation was way more apparent I'll have to wait for a full trailer
>>152989407>Rigby never faces another direction so he looks fine>Mordecai turns and they struggle to alter the rig model for his head both timesA whole half-hour episode is going to open the floodgates on showing the flaws of the new animation, so I'm not worried about the discourse right now from this jank clip. If we can get through a few episodes and this clip be the worst they have to offer, we might be fine. But I can't imagine how an action scene will look with them not sitting in a car or standing.
why are people saying this looks good, the animation looks so cheap
>>152990563I'm honestly surprised I'm seeing a decent amount of people calling out the animation, because it is a bit subtle in its differences if you don't have an eye for this sort of thing or aren't giving it much thought or attention. KoTH was way more apparent and it had a lot of people saying it looked exactly like the later seasons, so I was expecting like 2 people at best to notice this clip looking off.It probably didn't help they initially released it cropped and made everyone focus directly on the smaller details like linework.
If it is rigged I'll say this, at the very least they're trying to adhere to the original style and not doing that fucking abhorrent thing where the characters bounce back and forth every time they make a pose like what happened to FoP, when it had a late last-minute renewal for some extra episodes before cancellation. They might be trying to keep it looking hand-drawn, even if it just makes it look rigid. If characters keep having one inbetween frame of turning their head like Mordecai did, that is going to look really bad though. A lot of flash/rigged animation gets by not doing inbetweens because of their bounciness, cutting out the middle frame and just cutting to the next angle but bouncing the head in place as if it were an intentionally quick, but lively motion. When you want to split the difference of not doing that bouncy effect but cut out inbetweens then you just have that Mordecai scene where he snaps into place.
>>152990105Yes, turns out that sabotaging you own industry by hiring retards from tumblr that hate the core audience (young boys) was such a bad decision that they've to bring back from the grave series from when western animation had any relevance at all with them, such as Regular Show, P&F, Gumball and Adventure Time. You call tell these retards have nothing new to say and the industry is currently in borrowed time
>>152990733>que paso muchacho
>>152990733The random "cursed tape glitches" are going to ruin basically all these episodes. Leave that shit to Gumball.
>>152989407If simple main character designs like this look off, imagine how fucking extra terrible the Party Horse episode will be. He's an anatomically defined horse.
>>152990802I personally can't wait to wake up at 9 am on a Monday morning to watch a flash animated Party Horse episode.
>>152989965This is looking like some adobe illustrator shit
>>152990759So they’re going to have glitched tapes like random glitches in the episode like it’s Pibby or something? I assumed the live-action stuff was just random stuff they made for this promo, but now I’m thinking it might be part of the actual show. If it’s part of the actual show, the revival is gonna be terrible.
>>152990759We sure that isn't just going to be a single episode thing?
>Eileen rap battle at a rival coffee shop>Lesbian wedding cameo at the luau>Rigged animation>weird ass plot arc confirmed about the tapes>Jumps randomly between seasons 1-7>Most episodes are directly stated by the network as "not making sense in a non-linear format" until the end of the season explains it>9 am>Japan airs it 13 hours early>A whole episode about boba tea>Party Horse 4>Shitty fanfiction titles that sound like those awful parody titles adult cartoons do, like "Spice It Up: Beyond Underdome", and "Party Horse 4: Third Time's the Charm"If this shit sucks I'm officially done with cartoons. They pulled one of my favorite series back from the dead and so far it feels completely wrong. Bastardizing Regular Show is when I cut the cord for good.It might finally be time to just... stop.
>>152990880pibby will be in the revival
The finale ending on the entire series being on one tape Pops was watching after sacrificing himself worked as a perfect gut punch, but it was just that. It's funny now seeing CN want the show back a decade later and it causing JG and the crew to suddenly need a bunch more individual tapes to show up and figuring out how they function and what their purpose is now.
>IT LOOKS HECCKIN TERRIBLE THEY RUINED ITS OVER Are you guys physically unable to say it just looks a little off?
this is going to be bad, isnt it?
>>152991196If this bare minimum scene with them sitting in the cart looks off then anything more demanding is gonna look like ass. This show still had a lot of movement and action despite how much people want to say "it was never good" any time someone points out something's gotten worse.
>>152989407The actual first thing I saw opening my twitter feed were like 5 posts or more in a row calling out the animation as bad, and maybe like 2 saying it was good or "better", so maybe people are finally waking up and can recognize things like this now.
>>152991230I will take that as "no i cant"
I'll wait to see the actual episodes. Doesn't really look different to me but then again I didn't really have an issue with the KOTH revival animation
I dont think you guys know how actual rig animation looks like
From the Q&A>"There’s more “wild darkness” to come. They don’t want to spoil anything"Maybe them doing something dark is why they shafted the show to when all kids are incapable of seeing every episode of the series. This is me coping that they don't just hate JG and this wasn't a long con to fuck him over again.
>>152989407>people calling this loose and expressivePeople should actually look at season 1 again. That's actually loose AND expressive, OP and the smug face Rigby makes is extremely sterile and flat. That is to say, that Mordecai is just poorly done.
s
whats with the tapes in this series? it seems like it was referred everytime in the og
>>152989407meh
I've set my expectations way low for all of these reboots and revival shows now, they almost always have worse animation, the VAs sound old and tired, and the scripts are just treading water. The thing about Regular Show is it was a dude in his late 20s making a show about being in your 20s, Close Enough was JG realizing he couldn't tell the same stories in the same way and doing a show about being in your late 30s. Having him go back to Regular Show isn't gonna have the same energy as the originals because so much of that energy came from the showrunner being around the same age as the characters.
>Thread about the first new Regular Show footage since 2017 has been up for 12 hours>Only 56 replies and most of them are just people arguing about the animation
>>152994067do you think maybe nobody wanted this
>>152994067Yeah we should be talking about the super complex plot and lore and how they totally haven't run this idea into the ground.
>>152994067/co/ is borderline dead anon. Fuck threads on /v/ regularly last 3+ days now, this whole site is slowing way the fuck down.
>>152990997I feel your sentiment, but I’m also laughing at you. For Regular Show to be the last saving grace of quality in the medium for you, you’d either have to be ignoring the second half of the original series or are so taken by nostalgia even those seasons bring back fond memories. It’s a great show, but it’s already been “bastardized” in the past.
>>152994483I love the owl house btw
Their mouths look fucked up but it looks fine otherwise
>>152989407>voices are fucked.No
Don's Back sounds like the only one that could remind me of the older days. Don most likely having back pains. I have no idea what High Five's Throat would be about unless it's one of those "someone gets injured and their voice changes" episodes... not sure if something that cliche would be entertaining for RS.
>>152989407From the image shared before, the fact we're actually getting episodes about Pops post-finale is awesome. It doesn't sound like they're going to sneak in any extra scenes of the park guys' lives after the final battle though, which sucks. That was very obviously rushed during production when CN cancelled them and shoved the entire season out the door before they were finished. They couldn't even translate all of James Baxter's hand-drawn frames to final animation in time. When I saw the title "Artist's Block" my mind immediately went to Mordecai painting in that studio apartment after he left the park. Now I wouldn't be surprised if it's some social media thing and block means blocked in that way. Please don't let it be that. I'd take another "Mordecai struggles to figure out art" idea like Benson's Portrait over the title being a secret pun for a social media story, even if it means no new depth for him. Or maybe a full flashback of him actually IN art school, but that's a pipe dream.
>>152989407Rigby and Mordo are fine. Benson sounded a bit off, but it coincided with the live action switchup, so IDK if that has anything to do with it.
>>152989407Everyone is saying the live action bit is "confirmed the series will have live action scenes for the first time" but I got the impression it was supposed to be like 2012 marketing, where live action people would dress as the characters for promos and bumpers. I didn't think it wa going to be an actual part of the episode, but it is confusing advertising to release a first clip ever where this happens.
>>152994067you cant blame retards with their high standards on this show since no one asked for this. other than money theres no reason to bring it back when i ended on a highish note. of course they did bring it back and if you’re not gonna respect this show by half assing the animation i just dont know what to tell you
>>152996925Please watch regular show again, aside from season 1 it never had great animation, 60% of the time it was mordecai and rigby standing around talking to each other
>>152996953the animation was serviceable, it wasnt great but it definitely wasnt horrible. theres something to be said when people see this clip and notice the animation is off.
>>152997061Its probably just a different animation studio, autists here see anything being slightly off and immediately start chimping out saying that its fucking over and they ruined or whatever
>>152997082i think its just people who are used to revivals of things being complete garbage or mediocre.
Honestly both this and Adventure Time: Side Quests both just seem to be admissions form CN that they think the latter seasons of those shows were mistake and they shouldn't have moved away from the formula of the first few seasons.I think it's why both feel off. It's one thing if they did a revival set after those shows' finales (although AT kinda got that), but this is just trying to replicate a "golden era" those shows moved away from halfway through. Gumball's revival was more understandable.
regular show was never good
>>152997352This doesn't feel off for any other reason than the animation looks cheaper. The reception to this clip has nothing to do with when it takes place or what. They just need to give us a real damn tralier so we can actually see more shit in motion and make a better call. But it sounds like the US promo department of CN is basically non-existent now and we'll just get whatever Europe shits out.
>>152994067People realized this stoner shit was never good
>>152997377Speak for yourself
>>152989407>official poster is mordecai and rigby riding in the park with trash bags>official clip is mordecai and rigby riding in the park with trash bagscan we actually fucking get something already
>>152997352Adventure time hasnt been like the first seasons since like 9 years ago, if this was their way of thinking it was a mistake then its a very late regret
The shit animation is so noticeable it's become an actual consistent trend of conversation everywhere. I feel bad for JG, he just wants to make fun stuff and hopes people will have a good time with it, but because CN can't give RS a normal budget or even half of what they dished out for Adventure Time, all the reception to the first content release is "holy shit this looks like ass" from people who were even interested in the first place.
>>152997638>the autists on twitter are the same brand of autists on hereWe know that already
>>152997638good to know I'm not the only one who opened up the footage in an animation program to add more frames to it
>>152989407They are definitely airing this at 9 am to combat the level of death in this series and "inappropriate" jokes. Because of Fionna and Cake, this was expected to release on Max and they were allowed to do some crazy shit but then it got switched to airing on TV, but the network didn't want an accessible timeslot due to its 12+ nature after already making the network preschool central for the past decade. This is not just more of the same. Kids who watched We Baby Bears will be really uncomfortable with this. Ironically, parents who got used to early morning shit like Batwheels babysitting their infants will probably get mad that this is airing around the same time. Also I hope you liked the songs in the Super Mario Bros. movie because one of them plays in episode 1.
>>152997716Why not just air it on Adult Swim then like they did with Invincible Fight Girl or My Adventures With Superman then? I think you might be full of shit.
>>152989407The voices I can forgive since the actors haven't played them in over a decade. But the animation is trying WAY too hard to mimic the original style. It kinda works with the arms, but the heads give it away instantly. Is Saerom still doing this? If they are then this is a definite downgrade.
>>152998777That sounds overcomplicated
>>152989407They sound the same but Mordecai looks a little off for some reason
>>152997735I recall that it did rerun on Adult Swim
>>152998777>>152999980It's weird to see Regular Show attempt something like this. The show's been ambitious, but usually in a clear to understand flow. This definitely sounds more complicated than anything they've ever done before.
>>152998777Curious. Though worst case scenario if it fumbles, can just ignore it and just stick with the original finale which was great
>>152998777Its not like regular show ever had that complicated of a narrative, i doubt it will be that hard to follow along
>>152989407If it sounds like Regular Show, and it looks like Regular Show... it's Regular Show. All of you need to chill out
>>153001614I'm not really hearing an issue with the voices like some people but I am seeing the animation difference. I just want a better clip to judge what's actually going on with it instead of talking in circles about a couple small things from a super short clip that are hard to discern what it means for the rest.Maybe they are doing a mix of drawn and rigged, and it might not be so bad most of the time (Mordecai's luau hands were animated well.) Or maybe it'll be consistently distracting. We won't have a good idea until a trailer showing off different episodes, or at least various scenes from the premiere, comes out. But it shouldn't be disregarded on this board when people pick up on cheaper animation and aren't fond of it, either.
>>152989407They definitely cheaped out on the animation, I'm surprised some people aren't seeing it. All you really need to look at is Rigby's arms and hands in this scene. If this is what the whole show's going to be like now that's fucking dire. There's no way the normal animation for the show's later seasons is too expensive to do now.
The newest Family Guy and American Dad seasons are also rigged to hell. The West(ern animation) has fallen.
>>153002467>The newest Family Guy and American Dad seasons are also rigged to hellYou mean more than usual?
>>153003071Yes. The line art is vectorslop now.
>>152990062>Gumball S7>Better animation Anon, they are still unable to top the first two seasons
>>153003428but they made gumball a bad bih it was so hot
>>153002236Shit, yeah. How did we miss that?>>153002467Could've fooled me. Those shows looked the part for at least the better part of a decade now.
>random live action segment xDDoh great this is the next hack thing that's going to become overdone to hell and get really fucking annoying and unfunny very quickly isn't it?Regular Show never had this type of mix media humour before so that's how you know this is coming from newgen animation hires who got all their inspiration from Smiling Friends and Newgrounds.Gag's that are just "look its live action haha" is all about saying "we're not like the other cartoons" but when every cartoon starts doing it, well it doesn't fuckin work.
>>153006089Quintel is still at the helm but I do know new writers are joining. RS was pretty consistent with what it was during the original run, and it helped it pretty much always had people who "got" it. I felt like the writing/jokes were a little weird and off during s8 but that was about it. Like you said, I wouldn't be surprised if the new people brought a different taste to the table.I'm too burnt out on shit in the industry anymore to bother checking what they've done to get an idea of their writing style and what to expect out of this new season though.
>>152990072>>152989420>>152989466>>152989559You're the reason why shows are getting cheaper and cheaper. In a few years you'll be defending Clutch Cargo-tier shit.
>>153006089>>153006123you can get a hint of the humor change from how they're handling episode titles now
>>153006089>random live action segmentThis is what worries me most about Lost Tape
>>153006142It literally looks the same as the last few seasons you sperg
>>153006826>>153002236No episode of RS ever had animation like this.
>>153006835true
>>153006835false
