Metallo would have been a cool villain for a movie. Not as a main antagonist but he would make for a great pawn of Lex Luthor or something like that. He's at the perfect level of a decent threat but simple to adapt as a bad guy.
>Guy hates Superman
>agrees to become robot to fight superman
>OH GOD MY HUMANITY! THIS IS SLIGHTLY SYMPATHETIC ENOUGH TO HAVE IRONIC PATHOS!
Even have him go after Lex before his involvement gets outed.

I agree, Metallo fucking rules.
and you know, as much as I rag on Timm's art style sometimes, he fucking understands machines in a way seemingly no other western artist does.

it was a good design. Just Terminator enough without being, well it's immediately obvious no matter how you shake it, but it works.
>>
>>152989812
apparently, he exists in the new DCU
.....he already got his ass kicked off-screen in a prequel novel to Superman 2025. i kinda agree with most people on the idea that Metallo should've been in the movie instead of The Engineer (and if they didn't want to give him an advantage over Superman with Kryptonite, this easily could've been a prototype version without it so he's not kicking Superman's ass too badly)
>>
>>152990236
Well I think the kryptonite heart is part of the appeal. It's why he can go toe to toe and force Supes to show off his more clever side.

I feel like superhero movies in general would benefit more from having random battles with lower-tier villains that have nothing at all to do with the main plot of the movie and the main villain of the movie, just to showcase that this is the hero's job, what he does every day, he's not just sitting at home waiting for an archenemy to threaten the whole world.
>>
Metallo should have been Luthor’s muscle in Batman V Superman. That cripple should have been John Corbin, and Luthor turns him into a twenty foot tall giga-robot with a Kryptonite heart. He can even absorb tech with Kryptonian Nanites.

He beats Superman’s ass an Batman + Wonder Woman have to help and they all team up to beat him.

It's a weird balance. I think audiences these days are just more ON BOARD with the super hero thing so having villains show up with little explanation would probably track better now than it would have before. Someone like LIVE WIRE could just be around and all you'd need is Jimmy or Lois to give some quick exposition before you move up to bigger threats like Metallo or Parasite as your arc villain.

Most of the bigger name heroes who can sustain sequels do have enough minor villains who can just show up robbing a bank or seeking a grudge match with the hero and the whole thing would be completely self-explanatory, with minimal exposition about what the guy's powers are, in some cases even that can just be explained visually very quickly. It makes the setting just feel bigger if there's more villains out there, and you can even have it all pay off down the line in a later movie by having them show up as a team.

This is something that's really been an issue with super hero movies. Especially once the whole shared universe wave crashed. It made sense when these things were more self contained that Goblin or Dock Ock might die in Spider-man 1 and 2 because a film needs closure and even if we get a sequel we have other badguys to pull in. Once the MCU hit they absolutely should have been planning a Masters of Evil.

They barely had enough surviving villains to fill up a Thunderbolts roster

It just always feels like movies are in a rush to do what the comics took years to build into. They'll rush to Doomsday or Venom or whatever other famous big bad.

In an early draft of Batman v Superman, the wheelchair guy that sued Superman was intended to become Metallo but WB insisted with including Wonder Woman and introducing the Justice League in the next movie

Metallo works best when he’s a dumbass who would beat Superman in five seconds if he wasn’t retarded.
>>
>>152989812
They wouldn’t do that, they’d offend the Transcommunity. It’s the same reason they phased out the Cyberman in doctor who.

Lame design
>>
>It's all fake...A FRAUD!
>There's the reality...the metal behind the man.
>It's all I am now...it's who I am!
>Metallo!

The DCAU origin is almost too good for the character.
>>
How come DCAU Metallo didn't keep trying to kill Luthor though? Superman didn't do shit. It became abundantly clear that Luthor couldn't give him back his human senses, and it was all exactly Luthor's fault. How does Metallo becoming Luthor's goon make any sense?
>>
>>152991152
It worked in that show because Metallo was made of junk by a lunatic and generally a comedic villain, though oddly in his first appearance he slashes a doctor’s throat to escape from a hospital.
Superboy was crazy and I love it.

>How does Metallo becoming Luthor's goon make any sense?

He didn't though. In his subsequent appearances he has amnesia, is working with Intergang or is operating independently. He works for Grodd and the Society during the back half of JLU, but that's about as much henching as he does.
>>
>>152991183
He’s probably given up and decided to try kill Superman/doing the only thing he had left before dying.
>>
>>152991183
I would assume it’s because he needs krytonite to live, and what better source of it would there be?
Luthor could also potentially upgrade him.

Malcom McDowell . Just delivered

A powerful enemy in a vulnerable position.
>>
>>152991294
i love that he's STILL ACTING, in his 80s. He's got that Patrick Stewart love for the craft.
>>
>>152989953
indeed. but I meant more how the joints actually make sense, there's room for them to bend..
the same robot in Ben 10 would just look like a guy in a silver jumpsuit with some horizontal lines drawn across his human muscled arms like fucking Colossus.
>>
>>152990265
plus, if he starts out with a different power source, and upgrades it to a dangerous one.. that's a bit too Iron Man.
I agree the kryptonite heart is PART of him. it's like hey, radioactivity is energy.
though when he fires it like a beam, that should shorten his lifespan.
>>152990275
seriously. films are so addicted to 'filmmaking'. fuck that.
>>152990381
Iunno Livewire really needs her brilliant introduction as a shock jock

(she also needs to stop like, turning into electricity and traveling through phone lines. that's a bit too goofy)
>>
>>152992473
>turning into electricity and traveling through phone lines.
well that problem probably solved itself
