>Look Lisa, I will absolutely commend your improvisational abilities; that doesn't just show an adept skill with the saxophone and scales, but the ability to have those skills carry you into off-the-cuff riffs is so exemplary that I would never in my days expect to see that from a student any time before middle school. My issue is that we all need to work together to play an organized piece that I'm trying to teach the class. While I admire your skill, there are students who are still attempting to perform at a fundamental level who aren't ready for a piece on par with what you can handle. Frankly a part of this class is meant to teach you how to play together as a band, and with that comes the unity and organization of doing what you're instructed to specifically. I think you are very bright and show a future with the instrument, absolutely, but while you are in my class and playing along with it I need you to follow the composition and play it as it says. One day you will be able to move on and play more complicated pieces that allow for improvisation, but baby steps. 'Wax on, wax off'. Do you understand? Why couldn't Mr. Largo have just have said this?
Because Lisa would still find issue with it and be indignant that someone would dare to say that she has areas in which she needs to improve when it comes to music
>>152995750he's a miserable grade school teacher and that spiel isn't very funny
>>152995750OICso the proper way to talk to lisa in this moment is to constantly philate her and praise her nonstop while dancing around the point? How about she's so smart she doesn't need this explained to her, and a stern finger towards the door is as much as she deserves.
>>152995750Lisa is a narcissist. She doesn't want to play with others as a team. She wants to be better than everyone.
>>152995838>and praise herYes. Have you never heard of sandwhiching criticism? Compliment-critique-compliment. This is a child we're talking about here, one who does indeed show aptitude that just needs to be reigned in. Gifted children trying to walk off the beaten path are not irregular but in lieu of needing to learn the lesson they might also need to learn the basics of following a task and working as a team instead of individualistically. A diplomatic approach to someone with an ego will also help gain their trust and confidence is the teacher shows he at least recognizes what she's trying to show off for. But Lisa is a good girl, someone who wants to perform well in school, and working with her instead of against her is what will help her happily comply instead of fighting the teacher and the task. The OP may have peppered in compliments but did not fail to mention what she was doing wrong, why it needs to be done, and what he would ask of her to change.
>>152995750The few episodes that go deeper in his life present him as a bitter failed musician and views Lisa's dream as an inevitable train wreck and raising her spirits as pointless at best or setting her up for disappointment at worst.
>>152995750Mr. Largo is a shit teacher that's why
