Byrne didn't want to include Superboy because he wanted to do more early Clark himself.but starting his career late (like college-aged more or less). Levitz's original solution to this was simply that age would have been kind of a fuzzy thing so college-aged Clark, a thousand years in the future, was basically seen by the future people as a teenager and still inspired/joined the Legion where they called him Superboy and that was it. Editorial, for whatever, didn't like this and went to Byrne in a panic caiming they Legion continuity was now messed up which is where the pocket universe came from.That said I doubt Byrne was losing sleep over ruining the Legion given his lifelong hatred of them because their debut story reminded him of getting picked on as a kid so he though they were nothing more than a bunch of asshole bullies.

So you had to just assume these things never existed anymore.And then 5YL completely replaced Kara with Laurel Gand (but not Laurel Kent, or was she just a Manhunter in post-COIE).
