The DC Finests for the second half of 2026 have slowly been trickling out. More Batman, more Harley Quinn, more Green Lantern, and more Horror.
>>153011650Okay
>>153011733What is that?
>>153011650Glad to see them sticking to the horror stuff but I'm still really hoping for more Legion and Titans.
>>153011721The only good Harley run ever.
>>153015202More House of Secrets, House of Mystery, The Witching Hour, and The Unexpected.
>>153011681Only one I'm excited about. I figured we'd be getting more Balent Catwoman by now. What the fuck.
Which Finest do you hope gets a new volume announced soon? What character/team/genre would you like to see get a DC Finest that doesn't already have one?
>>153016066>Which Finest do you hope gets a new volume announced soonCass Cain, Legion, Titans, Bronze Age Superman>that doesn't already have one?Outsiders, Adam Strange, Atom
Still no Captain Marvel
>>153016066I just want them to collect Infinity Inc in two volumes. It's pretty much the team's only chance at getting collected in full.
>>153016761
>>153011709This seems like such a weird inclusion. It's only got a single issue of COIE in it and everything Batman related is already collected in the Red Skies DC Finest.>>153011681Can someone who knows more than I do tell me how this compares to the Batman: Bronze Age Omnibus?I see that this collection includes Batman 245 and 'Tec 427-429 which are not included in the omni (but of course the omni includes way more issues overall). Are any of those really good and/or in some way relevant to Ra's?
>>153017456>This seems like such a weird inclusion. It's only got a single issue of COIE in it and everything Batman related is already collected in the Red Skies DC Finest. It's more or less how they handled Zero Hour
>>153017466It's pretty crazy how hard it is to get a TPB of Crisis on Infinite Earths. I've got a copy from 2000 but it seems like everything I can find after that is a hardcover/absolute.
>>153017531>It's pretty crazy how hard it is to get a TPB of Crisis on Infinite Earths. No it's not. If you just want the event you can get a trade on amazon right now for like 15 bucks paperback
>>153016066>AnnouncedPAD Supergirl, if only so we can start getting into uncollected territory>New charactersAfter the storytime recently I gotta say FirestormThis is exactly the type of character that would excel in this format, collecting the original mini and then the Justice League appearances and the flash backups before getting into the main series
I'd like some Golden Age Flash
>>153017718It isn't sold by Amazon. That's like saying you can buy something off of Ebay. The collection you posted (which is apparently on sale for about 55% off right now) is the one I was talking about from 2001. It's pretty crazy to me that arguably the biggest event in comic book history was last printed in paperback a quarter of a century ago. Compare that to how many times Long Halloween has been printed in paperback. Or Kingdom Come.
>>153017956>is the one I was talking about from 2001.Yeah, and they kept it in print. You can still get it. Easily. The fuck do you even want? You said it was hard, it's not.
>>153017956>That's like saying you can buy something off of EbayYou can, anon. What the fuck?
>>153015243Not having Legion or Firestorm volumes to go with the new books is ridiculous. I guess we REALLY needed a collection of every pointless COIE tie-in instead.
>>153017877>After the storytime recently I gotta say FirestormI keep wondering if I should resume that. I like the series and character but there didn't seem to be much interest in so I just let it lapse.
>>153016066Beyond having already mentioned Legion and Firestorm. All-Star Squadron seems like it should be a no brainer, Outsiders, a science-fantasy genre collection with stuff like Starfire, Beowulf and Star-Hunters might be cool just because I'm all for more variety.
>>153017350Infinity Inc would take four volumes, maybe five.
A bronze age Earth-2 collection would be cool. Maybe Freedom Fighters or a Golden Age Phantom Lady collection.
>>153011650>>153011681>>153011696These ones for me. Maybe also the horror book but I'll be real I didn't finish the first one
>>153011650dang I just want ambush bug
>>153011650
>>153011650bump
>>153016016Me bitching paid off. New volume announced today and a bunch of other stuff.
>>153021401I'm pumped up, a lot of good stuff announced today
>>153021603Same. Glad it seems like DC is really committing to the Finest line. It's been amazing what this kind of stuff has done for them.
>>153021820>>153021836>>153021842God, I love DC FinestsThe cover of the Swamp Thing looks especially with those colours.
>>153021836>>153021842>>153021906Want it>>153021887will probably get it>>153021875I have the hardcovers from a while back but glad to see they're getting this out in some way.
>>153017531Now shut up
>>153021875Twitter ain't happy about this one lolAnd neither am I honestly, there are other Superman stories I would've liked collected instead.
>>153024301You need books that will consistently sell and have demand for reprints if you want this line to last. If you only publish obscure runs or characters people don't know the line will wither and die.
>>153024301If they didn't do this one you chodes would be complaining there's no good starting point. This is one of the best foot hold Superman books they can put out. What else would you like that is more important than this?
>>153024301What are the troons saying now
>>153024735Byrne badByrne Superman badThat's about it, you should already know why people think that.
>>153023796Fuck me, didn't realize it was November already.
>>153024770I don't really follow Byrne, anon. Been meaning to read his run so I will probably give this a go
I’m actually excited for Byrne Superman in this format bc I wanted it collected but didn’t want omnibuses
>>153024862I was always a fan.>>153024866I have the hardcovers but am glad it's getting some kind of rerelease that's not an omnibus. I'm already deep in with Triangle Era but I do wish we had this as an option years ago.
>>153024301Twitterfags are never happy with Superman unless it's the specific interpretation they made up in their head.
>>153024862It's just very different from Pre-Crisis Superman, which is now actually the preferred version of Superman for a lot of zoomers believe it or not.Like having no Superboy, no Legion, Clark being born from a birthing matrix on Earth instead of Krypton so he can technically count as a US citizen, considering himself more human than Kryptonian, Krypton not being retrofuturistic anymore like in Pre-Crisis, etc. There are a lot of choices in Byrne's Superman that are very different from how Superman used to be, and even how he is now, since a lot of what he did ended up being retconned out anyway. Also Byrne is like, heckin' problematic or something, not sure exactly why, but I know he likes to make characters he writes into pedophiles for some reason, he did it with Superman once in fact.
>>153024862They blame him for the post crisis lore nuke.
>>153025252Thanks for the context and insight. I like Superman but I'm far from really knowledgeable about him
>>153025252>Krypton not being retrofuturistic anymore like in Pre-Crisis, etc.Byrne outright went out of his way to character assassinate the whole planet, turning its entire population into philosophical zombies.
>>153025334I was thinking of that too, I just wasn't sure how to properly word it.I'm like, 90% sure it was to make Krypton look bad on purpose so that Clark would have more of an excuse to embrace Earth.
>>153025364It wasn't just for Clark, but to the reader too.It was an overcorrection against the silver and bronze age creating more Kryptonians; post crisis DC went full scorched earth against it, to the point the animated series had to find loopholes to use Kryptonian stuff.
>>153016066>Which Finest do you hope gets a new volume announced soon? Superman Family>What character/team/genre would you like to see get a DC Finest that doesn't already have one?Elongated Man
>>153024770For once the troons are sane with that one.Byrne is to comics back then what Bendis is nowadays.
>>153025904He may have his writing hangups, but I prefer Byrne's bold lines to Gary Frank's scribbles.
>>153011650werent GLC the Englehart years
>>153021603not a big fan of Gunn's movies but he knows his comics
>>153021842this and Conway's Batman finally collected is a lifelong want
>>153026074Yeah, they used the Guy Gardner volume as a template for that cover and didn't change the names.
>>153023464Same. So glad these exists and hopefully they just wipe out omnis completely. They're such a shit format.
>>153011650>>153021875These are definites.
>>153026314I don't think omnis will be going anywhere unfortunately. They're still seen as the big prestige format.
DC please, give me Young Justice.
>>153027707They just did them in TPB and Omni. What I wish they would do is Tiny Titans and the original Teen Titans cartoon network comic.
A Booster Gold Finest would be nice. I don't think the original comic has gotten a trade since the black and white Showcase release.
>>153020037nobody cares about ambush bug
>>153027008My post is mostly wishful thinking than anything else. Omnibus culture is just horrible and I'd much rather have thick tpbs but that's just my opinion
>>153021721Has Morrison's run gotten the Finest treatment? Seems weird to not start with that.
>>153028511The sad thing is I actually do like an omnibus if it's not more than so many pages and just a brick. But the fandom around it is just the worst. All people just buying up books on FOMO and taking photos of them in their plastic never to be opened. How do these people even enter this hobby.
>>153028532Grant's run has been collected in a lot of different ways. Honestly I'm surprised they're not following how they did that line.
>>153028561Beats me. It's pretty crazy to me people go to reddit looking for recommendations wanting to get into the hobby. That's fine and good. However you find whatever you like then a couple weeks later they've bought 60 omnibus for fear of it going out of print and they burn themselves out and never end up reading the books anyway. The Finest stuff takes a lot of this fomo out of it and I love that aspect for the hobby.
Omnibi are just too big. If they were all the size of the Animal Man by Morrison one they would be great. Bigger than that and they are just a chore to read unless the spine is done really well.
>Marv Wolfmans Vigilante still doesnt have a second volume
>>153028608DC seems to be better in general at keeping things in stock. Marvel is just intentionally leaving money on the table by not doing another run of things like JMD Spectacular.
>>153028696I never got that either. Why would you not want to get money instead of letting some scalper sell this shit for 3 times the price on eBay? It'll be the last I say on the subject but these Finest collections are my favorite kind of books in recent years. I'm glad they're going all in on this stuff. We're eating good.
>>153028763Right? Like okay maybe a round two might take a little while to put out. I don't mind waiting if it means I don't have to pay ebay prices. But if a book sells out in under a month I think that should be the go ahead to do whatever it takes to get a second run.
>>153026013I generally just really miss that style of drawing in general.
>Crisis on Infinite Earths as one Compact book>Crisis on Infinite Earths split in 3 DC Finest booksWhy would anyone buy 3 books for 1 event over just one?
>>153029570The Compact is just going to be the event itself without most of the side material or tie ins
Marvel seriously needs to price drop their Epics. I love that format to death but goddamn with DC's Finest being so much cheaper...
>>153029641Mmhhh....That makes sense.
>>153029900Yeah, with some events it's easy to forget how much tie in bullshit there can be sometimes. Like the main books didn't stand still and because continuity they all had to have some weird spillover. This is why one of the Batman volumes is called Red Skies.
>>153029856Marvel needs to be better in general with their epicsThe fact that large portion of JMD's Spectacular run, including the Harry Goblin arc, has never been collected outside of one already out of print omnibus is criminal when they've made epics covering that entire era of Amazing
>>153030035You'd think the satellite spidey books would be a no brainer.
>>153016066>Which Finest do you hope gets a new volume announced soon?Legion, Plasticman, Paul's Doom Patrol,Bates/Maggin's Superman, Bates Flash and Priest's Action comics weekly(It was never reedited)>What character/team/genre would you like to see get a DC Finest that doesn't already have one?>Metal Men>Infinite/JSA>Zatara's Action Comics>Firestorm>Captain Atom>Hourman
>>153025252Nah, the prefered Superman is Wolfman/Byrne's Clark with the parent being Alive(post crisis) but the rest of the mythos and Rogue(except Manchester, Banshee ,Cyborg and Doomsday) being pre crisis. The actual Superman is a mix of both
>>153024866Panini in my Country is releasing monthly 6 issues volume of post crisis Superman since Man of Steel. Is right now ending Byrne's run and late this year will start exile.
>>153030267>the prefered Superman is Wolfman/Byrne's ClarkI think the only thing most people really like from Post-Crisis Superman is Clark's parents being alive, and even then, you'll still get some people arguing that the Kents dying are a crucial moment for young Clark and that they don't even really bring much to the table when they're alive anyway.
>>153030326John's run , All Star Superman , absolute and Lois and Superman show all of those understood both sides and just killed Jonathan , which was an smart move.>>153026098I hope they release a DC finnest for Priest run or Wolfman run.People usually Jump from O'neil to engleheart to Kyle(maybe reading mosaic)
>>153024301>>153024735I thought Twitter was right wing now?
>>153030267So in other words, STAS Superman.
>>153028763I've heard Marvel has been burned by too many omnis and epics not selling. A lot of stuff ends severely discounted. DC seems to have more tolerance for books not selling.
>>153030419Well when you're overcharging in a bad economy that tends to happen.
>>153030035Worse, they could have included the key DeMatties Spectacular issues in with Amazing in the ASM epics, especially given that his run in hindsight pretty much is the driving force for EVERYTHING that happens in the franchise in 1992-1998
>>153030249In addition to the finest, I really hope they reprint some of those Deluxe Legion editions somehow. Those Superboy and BEFORE THE GREAT DARKNESS volumes go for a bit more than I'd like to spend
>>153030419I get that but stuff you know is gonna sell should be going back to reprint immediately. They should have known better than to print 5 million Rom omnis and think Omar's word is gonna make every one of them sell. Their Epic collection prices have always sucked ass though. I'm just some retard on 4chan so what do I know>>153030399It could be. I don't use it. I hear about people getting upset about something on Twitter and just assume it's troons
>>153032357I think DC trusts it's cash cows (mostly Batman, Superman and big events) to carry the whole line. Marvel's gotten so gun-shy they seem to hesitate even on obvious sellers (like X-Men).
>>153028561I don’t mind them for creator-focused runs or straight Silver Age runs like Lee/Kirby’s Fantastic Four. My problem is event ones. I recently took a look at just what was in some of the ones I blindly had on my wishlist, and realized it would be much cheaper and space-conscious to pick up the respective, more focused trades rather than a messy collection of tangentially related tie-ins. The World War Hulk one seems especially bad, but I recently decided to do this with Infinity Gauntlet/War/Crusade for much cheaper than the OoP Omnis would run me.
>>153011650Good, I love green lantern stuff.
>>153032357>>153030419yeah there's a world of difference between trying to sell fucking Micronaughts and Spider-man.
>JSA Compendium 2 announcedFINALLY
>>153028665>no Kupperberg omnibus
>>153011721Let me guess, gay shit?
>>153033692
Wasn't the Legion I asked for but it is Legion
The Unwritten is also getting a second compendium, and Preacher is getting one.
>>153033716Ugh, eww.
>>153024301Twitter troons will cope and seethe about Byrne making Superman too American and patriotic, then turn around and glaze this era of Superman without a second thought
>>153030326Wealthy businessman Lex Luthor and General Sam Lane were also post-crisis changes that have stuck around. Lois's pre-crisis parents were friendly farmers.
>>153034026OG Lois's background was just a rural as Clark's?

>>153034094Yeah, I liked the implication that Superman was attracted to Lois because he saw in her another farm kid who left it for a bigger calling, whereas Lois was repulsed by Clark in part because he reminded her too much of a place she wanted to get away from.

>>153033385Exactly. You'd think reprinting omnis for characters that sell out in minutes would kinda take some of the sting out of no one buying Strike force Morituri or whatever. There are some real dumb fucks running Marvel's collection department
>>153033692>>153033706Based as fuck

>>153035331I've only ever read the Longbow Hunters mini and I loved it. I'm excited to read more of the Grell run. It sounds fantastic.
>>153035352I'd be willing to preorder but marvel has massive QC issues and I'd really like to know how a book is before I shell out the cash.
>>153035438It's just odd to me one of the two biggest publishers of comics seems to actively want to create false scarcity. What's the point? It's X-Men. It's gonna sell.
>>153035371It's not quite as great as Longbow Hunters but overall it's very good.
Shado is cool
>>153035886That artwork fucking rules
I always liked Grell on Warlord so I'm surprised I never really read his Arrow
>>153031094I think this speaks to a larger issue with Epics, and Finests, once you hit the '90s: too many fucking crossovers. There's just way too many stories where you have to read multiple books to get the full story and I imagine that becomes a giant pain in the ass when trying to figure out what to collect and how. Like collecting '90s Superman in Finest means you can't really just do an Action Comics or Adventures of Superman or whatever collection because the Triangle Era lasted into the 2000s. Spider-Man, X-Men and etc. these all start having storyline that run through every book so that means you have to start double and triple dipping on collecting them.
>>153033706How will the Fag Tim truthers deal with a run where he's unambiguously heterosexual?>>153033716Why the fuck would you omnibus this shit? It literally peaks at issue 1 and all it really has going for it is the fact that Kitson draws cute girls.
>>153036980>Like collecting '90s Superman in Finest means you can't really just do an Action Comics or Adventures of Superman or whatever collectionWell that's I think a point to the Finest's advantage. It seems like they focus more on the character. It's a a bit early but The Time and Time again Finest does look like it's keeping the Triangle mapping when they reach that far.
>>153037050>Fag>heterosexualAnon, I'm about to blow your mind with a little thing called bisexuality.
>>153035171What's the best way to read Hellblazer?I remember way back in the day they only collected specific arcs in TPB form but I remember years ago they decided to do a full, numbered release of trades. Also, is all of [the original run of] Hellblazer worth reading? I remember hearing that the last few authors were pretty bad. I liked Carey a lot but never read anything past him.
>>153037233>but I remember years ago they decided to do a full, numbered release of trades. That one. 26 trades. They're out of print now.
>>153037233With them starting to do Vertigo titles in DC Finest I imagine they might get to Hellblazer since it's a pretty quintessential book for them.
>>153037583I wonder if they'll do Sandman
>>153037378Unfortunate. I picked up beginning Delano stuff (Original Sin and The Devil You Know) alongside Dangerous Habits and all the Mike Carey trades back before they launched the numbered volumes and then picked up all of the Jenkins stuff and the Azzarello run with the numbered volumes. Outside of the obvious Delano stuff (Family Man + Fear Machine) what else should I get? I'm sure that Ennis had done some good stuff other than Dangerous Habits but is his entire run good? Are any of Ellis, Mina, Diggle, or Milligan worth reading?>>153038007Sandman would be weird since it's already been pretty regularly reprinted in the same 'size' volumes. I feel like DC Finest works best for ongoings that aren't already cleanly divided into story arcs. I wouldn't be surprised though, given how Sandman and Hellblazer are far and away the most popular/acclaimed Vertigo properties.
>>153038007Like the other anon said, I think you can get Sandman in a ton of different formats. Putting their energy into it might not be worth it but Hellblazer fits with them doing Swamp Thing from the beginning and a ton of those later Hellblazer tpbs are out of print and pretty pricey. Not even sure if they will do it but I'm just guessing about them rolling out a Pollack Doom Patrol one already
>>153037050same way they deal with anything. Not buying comics and posting pirated frames out of context
No new Absolutes?
>>153035084How is Balent Catwoman?
