>>153012475It's gonna be like the Futurama revival and the Gumball revival. Mostly "meh" but with some standouts. You can't really win with cartoon revivals unless the lead creator is an established writer, the writers are consistently good at writing, AND the creator has a shit ton of control over the project. Gumball sucked because Mic Graves wasn't available and Ben had to take over writing (except this was his first time writing, despite having years of experience as a showrunner). Futurama sucked because the show had already run out of steam a few seasons before and STILL kept the same batch of writers.Regular Show is gonna be ass because most of the same writers are still on board (which means the general decline will still exist) and there's new creative input from some of the female members of production (which risks the show falling back into meandering fluff that's concerned with petty drama/romance/domesticity or "making a statement").There's a reason nobody talks about the Regular Show comics and it's because they're the sort of thing the show went out of its way to avoid doing (and even made fun of).

>>153013388Last time I checked, Mic Graves is getting his own show off the ground. It's a real shame because he knew the characters inside and out. There's a notable difference in how the characters speak and their word choices if you compare the original series to the revival. Not to mention how the revival lacks a lot of cynicism and rudeness that the original run was known for. If anything, the revival ping-pongs between being too gentle to being flat out mean-spirited.

>>153015704I've always hated the writing quirk where characters just keep explicitly saying the same word over and over, I think RS has had that issue before but not constantly, or at least not in this specific way where the sentences are different but they keep repeating the word. "Goin down to luau town" "We're gonna luau up down and A-ROUND" made me cringe.I feel like that's a problem of RS' dialogue style, if you get it slightly off/wrong it's this. Because Mordecai and Rigby definitely act very similar to this in general. This was just one of the times it was forced.About the cadence, I thought it was the point he was remembering (even though it's weird they'd forget when it seems like they only have one small thing to do and then going on a vacation?) Made me wonder if the tape stutter at the start was actually the episode doing a harsh opening where the characters just give shitty exposition to each other/for the audience.
>>153015979To explain a bit, the first episode is a 2-parter, the first called Fix That Tape and the second Skips' Luau. I could see something happening where the tape that needed to be fixed sort of skips a bit of content and jumps to this scene which is why the "oh yeah" exposition style seems forced.
JG was such a lover of traditional animation that even the storyboards stayed on paper and using sticky notes while everyone else moved on to easier digital work, I'm sure he probably didn't like that they had to do cheaper looking digital animation either. That sounded retarded and no way they'd put "asian" something in a title, so I dismissed it as made up but the Secret Menu Item one turned out to be real. Was AVGC the a working title for Japlan or something, even though it was randomly entered as the first episode? Now I can't find any evidence menu item leaked early.
