Why doesn't DC do an updated version of Who's Who?

It's weird when anons just impersonate you and post your thread idea before you do. Anyway, I think they don't make those anymore because they realized comic book nerds now have these original books to read, the internet wikias have overtaken their usefulness, and new characters do not have as much staying power or complex histories.
Instead they'd rather just you buy those History of DC/History of Marvel books. Or those Scholastic type books where it is a visual compendium of the universes that doesn't try to be definitive, moreso just a tool to get kids hooked on the franchise.
But yeah it might be cool to see updated versions of these books if they didn't expose how many new characters and concepts are derivatives of the originals.

>when anons just impersonate you
Nobody cares who you are enough to impersonate you.

Well I don't want to be unknowingly tied to someone who then goes on to be a notorious schizo if it ended up being the case. But I guess I'm being paranoid.

DC themselves have a hard time agreeing, and the status quo is always constantly changing and being retconned and rebooted, so these end up always being outdated almost immediately.
Anyhow, they recently released an updated version of their DC encyclopedia thingy.

I don't think these sorts of things are really necessary these days in the age of fan wiki sites.

They're nice to have as a bit of a fun thing to read... but without the market of "I need this to understand x character", I think it's harder to convince a publisher to make these.

Regular Who's Who books in real life have also fallen out of favour

I think they did one recently and it pissed me off because it had fake heroes in it.

internet

Yeah, they very recently released pic related, which I bet is already outdated.
At the top of my head, I know they recently gave Jon Kent a new identity, and I really doubt this acknowledges Tomorrow Man.

Fan wikis don't always get updated.

The DC wiki in particular sucks.

You can't make profile books with weak editors and vibe canon
>>
>>153016278
Ugly ass art.
>>
The internet has made it irrelevant. Thought maybe if that History of the DCU does well maybe they’ll do some?

Not if *I* have any say in the matter!
>>
>>153015210
Given that they seem to change their continuity every fifteen minutes, it would be outdated before it was published.

>The internet has made it irrelevant

This would be true if DC actually ever updated the profiles on their website.

Who's going to pay $5 an issue for a bunch of bios when you can read those on the internet for free?
>>
>>153015210
Secret Files replaced Who's Who as far as bios are concerned

>>153020310
Who are you?

Which one is that one?
>>153020874
Well these do have pretty soulful interior art. And a professional team can make the bios sound more interesting and serve as a time capsule.

Whoops. Switched around. Back on track now. I dunno if I'll post all of them. Depends on desire of anons.
I forgot if I just got these from the DC wikia and if anons can find higher res ones then I am ok with stopping and someone else starting a thread/storytime. I kinda just like posting interesting shit that I have currently.

these covers really are nice

Back in 2023, I got to interview a guy who was writing a miniseries at DC starring a B-tier hero, and I asked him what kind of material DC provides when researching the character. He told me that DC themselves just sends writers links to the DC Wiki since they're pretty up to date, and they'll send him digital copies of specific issues if he so requests it. I'm not sure what Marvel does anymore. I haven't heard if the Appendix guys are still called upon to keep stuff up to date internally.
