>>153018367Man the new writers really are absolute shit. This material is screaming "laugh at me", which the older material did not. It was clever but rarely too loud or attempting to peddle for laughs with such desperation. It really shows that this modern team lacks actual life experience to make thoughtful quips and clever reference outside of itself. They are just told to "come up with something funny" and either reference the older writing or try to stretch the reach of the show far beyond what it was meant to. There is a reason the original showrunner Hillenburg didn't want to keep resuscitating the series.
