So went threw this whole line. We all know the Crossed series is just shock gore porn, I've read my fair share and that really is all 95% of it is. But i will say, "Wish you were Here" had a damn good story. Even a bit heartbreaking. Anyone else read it?
>>
Haven't reached that far cus like you said it's just exploitation filler.
>>
>We all know the Crossed series is just shock gore porn
But then you still read it?

So you're saying you have no taste?

I will heavily recommend if you wana read one with some substance. Or course there is still the disturbing imagery, but it it really in the background. The main draw of the line is mystery, who is the protag, backstory, what's he after here. And then a massive mystery of one of the crossed. The characterization is pretty complex. Give it a try.

What do you want lol, an internet fight, no thanks, sounds boring
>>
>>153020578
I kind of wish that I did a timeline of how many characters had died or injured, but also the many sexual and gore-fest stuff happening in the volumes.

I think adding a swear count in the timeline would be a stretch.

I liked the ones by ennis and spurrier in badlands, particularly the fatal englishman (#25-28). it was ennis at his best, in spite of the shitting on christianity, strong characterisation and a brotherhood at the end of the world trying to do the right thing
as you said, WYWH was good but much of the rest of crossed is shock gore edge (lapham in particular) or just pure shit (like anti-crossed)
honestly, I didn't think much of the initial series either, ennis' work in badlands is much better

Agreed, for the most part you really could just throw the entire franchise in the trash. I've read enough to know it really is almost all the same to. WYWH rattled me, i just finished it this morning and ill be damned if it didn't make my heart sink a little and wonder about how far a human spirit can go before we aren't redeemable (and perhaps if we ever hit that low, the surprising heroism we might do to try to clean our souls) Ill look up Badlads if you say it's another standout that is worth the time

the one criticism I have for WYWH is volume 4 was probably twice as long as it needed to be (decompressed). the ending was great and the reveal of shaky being a shitty person was also very well executed.
badlands is 100 issues of very variable quality and also the characteristics of the crossed. there is plenty of edge, misery porn and gore, and many, many shitty stories
crossed is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, I'll come back and read it now and again
>>
>>153020578
I liked Smokey, and the Russian gangster that was too crazy to be a normal crossed
>>
>>153020597
All Ennis fags are complete edgelords but cream themselves over the slightest bit of badly written sentimentality in his shitty settings.
>>
>>153020578
Wish you were here, American Quitters, and Crossed conquers all are good stories.

Dead on Arrival is alright.

Don't ever read Psychopath
>>
>>153020915
WYWH has another unique crossed in it, goes a very different direction though
>>
this shit is still more striking and interesting than about a good 98% of comic books ever made thats for sure.
>>
>>153020578
Not with that art.
>>
>>153020578
I got through the original, first arc of Badlands, then started reading Psychopath before I finally decided that the franchise really doesn't have anything to say (or worth listening to) and that it was just too much pointless gore.

These threads are always so funny because they look like therapy sessions for people with intrusive thoughts.

wow a non-sequitur, I wish I could be as smart and cool as you
>>
>>153022451
Well, you can't.
>>
>>153020915
ngl I felt for Smokey when he saw his son was just another retarded rape-murderer with Tourette's, after he's spent so much time and energy trying to turn his people back into members of a more or less functioning society. Someone post that page, I want to see the panel that pinpoints the second when his heart rips in half.

Better than most superhero comics.
>>
>>153024111
I'd say it's on the same level. It's not better by any means, there's no value you gain from reading it like most comics but most comics aren't unique like Crossed. It's an example of cool premise, jackshit execution.

Anyone who calls anything Crossed related "good" should be beaten with a stick

idk man

Like Crossed is just objectively shit but I can't pretend it's not entertaining in its own absurd way. It's SO edgy and bleak it becomes funny.

>It's SO edgy and bleak it becomes funny.
That's the point.
>>
The covers are some of the best parts of Crossed. they tell a self contained story in a single image it's cool and a lot of them would make pretty sick metal album covers.
