>What is it's legacy?
Like a handful of Nick's shows, started out strong, but got weaker over time. Ended up gutting it's own cast down to the main trio, Dad, Crocker, Foop and Vicky, while introducing new characters that didn't leave a mark. Had a cool rule system in place, but ended up ignoring it half the time, and of course the infamous "secret wish".
Creator is a hack who took money from fans and now runs a Christian grift that doesn't seem to be going anywhere
In terms of the fans, it's mostly there for old shipping wars and porn.

FOP does has a stopping point. Many people argue what exactly it is in many ways you can argue what is the golden age of Simpsons. Many characters get flanderized and some get pushed to the front that should have stayed one off. Probably the funniest is the whole school just disappearing except Crocker.
>>
>>153021407
Unfunny irritating shit show. Invader zim should've lasted longer then this shit.

You know how you have shows like Adventure Time and SvTFOE that arguably listened too much to the shippers? FoP is like the opposite. If you completely shut off the shipping faucet after its been established, you lose your show, simple as.
>>
>>153021810
What makes for the best stopping point then? The answer often varies between fans. Channel Chasers is the most common answer, and I certainly agree with it, but Wishology wasnt so bad.
>>
I wish they did more with the Crimson Chin. I'd have rather gotten a Chin spin off than the Crash Nebula pilot.
>>
>>153021810
IMO Channel Chasers was the absolute pinnacle of the series, but what immediately followed was still good. The introduction of Poof in season 6 for me marks the point where there's no real point in watching anymore. So basically seasons 1 - 5 are the "golden age" as I personally see it. 5's a little weaker than what came before but not outright bad.

Agreed on Channel Chasers, but there are some good season 5 episodes after it.
I didn't find Wishology that great. In fact, season 6 as a whole had this weird vibe to it. Colors are brighter, voices are louder, humor is more absurd and less witty. Realistically, the last Jimmy Timmy Power Hour movie was the "original" finale, may as well stop there.

Pretty much what >>153021878 said. CC was just a dam good special, showed what Timmy was gonna look like in the future, we knew he'd be in good hands, and while he'd unintentionally repeat the same mistakes as his parents, we knew his kids were gonna be alright as well.

I'd agree with these. Season 5 is still worth watching, season 6 is where things start to actually feel off. Channel Chasers is just the best execution of the show's concept in a movie format so naturally it kind of overshadows everything else, but that doesn't necessarily make it the stopping point.

Holy BASED. You dont hear that answer come up often but its become my favorite. Frankly it serves as the best finale for both shows.
>>
>>153021910
Season 6 is where the show switched from Frederator Studios to Butch's own animation studio, and its where a lot of the style and vibe is lost. I remember people making a big deal out of the flash switch, but I barely noticed the change then, because to me it was already terrible post-Frederator
>>
I don't trust zoomers who defend the poof seasons let alone the reboot

S6 onwards continues to baffle me.

Half of the decisions made just feel like joke ideas they fully committed to. People talk about seasonal rot, flanderization, zombie series, but everything FOP got upto past S6 is old fashioned shark jumping.

There's just so many bizarre auto pilot decisions paired with telltale signs of the creatives being asleep at the wheel from repeated gags to toilet humor. At a certain point it feels like watching a relative succumb to dementia.

Likewise the various live action spin offs feel like SFW porn parodies played straight. I struggle to recognize the last two shows as part of the same series either. FOP overall seems to have all the success of Rugrats without any of the upsides. Atleast Rugrats got All Grown Up, FOP hasnt gotten a single good sequel series.

imo a time jump FoP isnt a bad idea, but going to a completely new cast ruined it. People only really cared about ANW when characters like Poof or Vicky were returning.

I couldnt agree with you more. At a time when the entire media apparatus is so fixated on nostalgia anyways, why would you throw a wrench into the works with a proven property like FOP? The end result just feels like a massive middle finger to the old fans. Anyone under the age of 20 doesnt care about FOP, they simply didnt grow up with it.

1. Fairies appearing in front of two non-knowers
2. Vicky acting evil in front of Timmy's dad
3. The one rando fairy has pointy ears like an anti-fairy
4. Vicky hasn't acknowledged Tootie is her sister in 5 seasons. When Tootie isn't around, Vicky and all other characters should be asking "Where's Tootie?"
5. I don't know why Timmy's dad is wearing a retard helmet, but its probably the funniest thing late-stage FOP actually did

Good show that lasted too long to the point where we got at least 3 different Poochie characters that tried to add more life into something that had clearly run its course. Only ones I can remember are the dog, poof, and that blonde girl. Wouldn't be surprised if there were more.
>>
A repetitive show that uses the same 6 jokes that had nothing to really do after season 4 as all the interesting fair world stuff got worn out and funny surrogate older bother alien guy even got boring. "Genie does jerk wish" episode where Conker fucking dies had child me think "holy shit they killed him" only to be confused when he's just there doing the usual FAIRIES routine.
Also the live action movies are cursed.

>>153021894
Invader zim not having seasonal rot isn't a bad thing. And a shitty live action invader zim would have given me a brain tumor.
Season 3 would've been nice but the finale legacy movie we got was fine even if it was basically a movie adaptation of the comic style. But I kinda went in expecting that.

since there's so much discussion on how much the later seasons suck (because they do), are there any later episodes that you enjoy?
>>
>>153027547
I don't know if you would call it later season, but for me it definitely happened in a time when I wasn't watching FOP.

Timmy makes bad wishes and is sent to a boot camp for god kids who make bad wishes. There's only two other kids, I can't remember the boy but there was a goth girl who didn't like to be touched. I like the episode if only for shipping reasons.
>>
>>153026129
Just think about it, though it was their second biggest hit, they squandered it.
>no theatrical movie
>barely any merchandise
>maybe one or two games compared to the tidalwave of Spongebob options
>they had such little faith in it they sold the distribution rights overseas and lost money on it
>only when they realized how bad they fucked up, they footed the bill for the later seasons and ruined the series anyways
They never understood FOP and had more faith in the Sponge and Jimmy. Reminds me of how hard they tried sniffing ATLA.
>>

There was one episode where a former godchild of Cosmo and Wanda's who broke free of magic prison and went on a rampage. I thought it was pretty inspired.

>probably a lack of cooperation or effort from the crew themselves, which is why you had shit like "Tootie showing up in a video game looking like a midget Vicky"

That said, compared to other Nicktoons, FOP got an ample amount of material. The biggest thing was the theater movie getting canned around 2005. I think they were legitimately experimenting with the idea of "more kids with fairies" (not Chloe, but characters we knew such as Chester or Tootie) and when that movie went under they went with Poof instead.

Serviceable cartoon that was enjoyable enough but it was never anything special. Zim was the superior cartoon.
>post-revival
Actual garbage, it became loud and extremely repetitive and eventually forgot most of the extended cast existed.

A New Wish is of similar quality as pre-cancellation, but its biggest failing is that it doesn't feel like something a kid would wanna watch. Timmy is a selfish asshole and that's what made him fun to watch. Hazel feels bland as a protag.

Nah, it was just your typical Nick-safe edgeslop. A slightly less ugly Ahh! Real Monsters that flopped even more quickly. It had its moments, all Nicktoons did, fucking even Rocket Power did, but this weird victim complex Zimfags have toward FOP feels misplaced because its the least similar cartoon to theirs on the channel, but something something premiered the same day.

Consider the following: FoP's first season order was tiny, Zim's was gigantic. In the modern day it would be like comparing something like Wylde Pak to Loud House. FoP was the underdog. Fast foward a year later, Zim is abruptly cancelled, and FoP is given a much larger order, effectively close to a 100 episodes, Butch Hartman is given a second cartoon, etc etc you all know the history....

...at least, the parts of history people aren't trying to revise because Butch being Trump supporter = all his stuff retroactively le bad

Zim had good.ratings but it did terribly with the demographic Nick actually wanted, and all the merch didn't come out until it was actually canceled. It also cost a shitload to make per episode which combined with the demo issue were the main reasons it got canceled, the studio drama was just a minor compounding factor.

It really irks me how much new wish continues to get its ass kissed in spite of everything you mentioned. Just like that entire wave of faggy nicktoon revivals, wish is also a toothless regurgitation of the original show. It says and does nothing new, and the few interesting ideas it does offer would have been better suited to a direct follow up of the cast fans were already familiar with and fond of.

Trixie seems like a character that is destined to move away from Dimmsdale, and try to become famous. It was disappointing ANW never even hinted at something like this, they were deathly afraid to touch any of Timmy's potential love interests. As someone in those threads, I'd have rather them just rip the bandaid off and go Timmy/Tootie while giving the other love interests something to do, instead of this pussyfooting.

>>153031507
I wonder if people like this really only see things in their niche internet fandoms. Ofc Fairly Oddparents is more culturally influential and popular than Invader Zim. I think there are more FOP memes than there are Zim episodes.

I'm also struggling to see what IZ influenced today, are they taking credit for analog/body horror shit like FNAF or Poppy Playtime now? Nobody figured out dark comedy until a cartoon that aired over two decades ago and ran shorter than Oyvey Primos?

FOP briefly was going toe-to-toe with Spongebob at its peak, but this was both short-lived and not some kind of "mogging".
