how old is Aunty May supposed to be?
>>153024498I always think of her being like mid sixties. Ben I imagine being close to ten years older than Richard to explain why they look more like grandparents by the time Peter's in high school
Originally Aunt May and Uncle Ben were roughly 50 years older than Peter. I don't know about recent retcons.
>>153024498My youngest aunt is only three years older than me.
>>153024498i've always imagined her as being in her 70s, only what we imagine people in their 70s to look like has changed a lot over the past 60 years or so
>>15302449825
She's supposed to be dead.
in the very early days wasn't she like 50 years old or around there? Fucking kek
>>153024498Old enough to be Peter's guardian
>>153024498Young enough for 40-ish Otto Octavius to date even though she's poor, strangely enough.
>>153024498As old as the writers want her to be, pretty sure most don't know outside of "old"
Old enough to have constant health troubles every other issue. So probably about 60+
>>153024498Remember when Byrne finally showed us Ben Grimm's "Aunt Petunia" and she turned out to be a hot chick?Byrne also reintroduced the Blond Phantom with the explanation that, as long as they have an on-going title, comic characters don't age. With the "sliding timeline" ages are meaningless. Remember Reed and Ben both fought in WW2.
>>153024498older than paul younger than galactus
>>153024498somewhere near his parents' ages so since Peter is a perpetual young-mid 20s then she's late 40s/early-mid 50s. No idea why she looks 90 though
>>153024498Did anyone ever try to float the idea that she was actually his great aunt?
>>153024498This is what the average 45 year old looked like in 1962
>>153024498Lich Years Old

>>153027167May taming the octopus with pussy is still a fair route in my book. She could fix him
>>153024498>every new version of aunt may makes her younger and more attractive because she's supposed to be his aunt, not his grandmother>616 comics will forever keep her a shriveled mummy
>>153026020>Young enough for 40-ish Otto Octavius to date even though she's poor, strangely enough.always found that weird, wasn't it originally that she had some inheritance or property in her name she did not knew about and Otto wanted to exploit that?>>153024498In modern continuity she was stated to be an octogenarian, so in her 80s. How she maintains things like the Feast center at that age is anyones guess.>>153024942Also true, her death was handled incredibly gracefully. Getting her back was one of the shittiest retcons. Hell they unkilled her TWICE and it sucked both times.
>>153024498near death
>>153024498Is this due to the reddit thread today? Aunt May should be old enough to be at least one generation removed from Peters Parents. Peters should feel like there is a generation of family missing. There should be a generation-shaped hole in his life. For example, If Ricard Parker Died at 30 his older brother be would be 50. Like Ben came home from "the War" when he was young, thinking he had his life ahead of him, to find his mother had given birth to Richard. Ben Parker would literally be raising his baby brother, and then his baby brother’s son. There needs to be sense of disparity in communication, also something that was lost, and can’t be replaced, It haunts Peter, it haunts all of them. Perhaps motivation to create, first that fun life (the one WITHOUT responsibility), and then a "normal" life. The responsible life. What is more responsible than being a father for a man. He would desire to create what his parents could never give him because they were phantoms. For their part, Aunt May and Uncle Ben struggle to give Peter (and themselves?) a normal life despite the misery and loss of their family unit. Aunt May shouldn't feel like Peters mother but maybe his grandmother or there should some kind of distance. While she might be a snappy old hag, she is not a spring chicken. Cancer and other sicknesses don’t require an age limit to become a problem, but Aunt Mays age is something that plays into Peter struggles. It also plays into her wanting to set Peter up with a gal she knows would complement him and he, her; that infamous red head. She knows this girl. She knows her quality. And she knows Peter the parts of Peter he hasn't figured out yet. So she does the thing a grandmother does when she's running out of time and wants to leave something good behind. She tries to set the table for a life that will outlast her.Aunt Mays Age is Important.
>>153024498The hottest version of Aunt May
>>153027461>Con'tIt boils my blood when I hear Kelly’s May declare that she is, like, Peters Mother. She isn't. She knew Peters Mother, she knows what haunts peter and what she can never replace. The real May shouldn't be warm in an uncomplicated way. It should be something that lives alongside exhaustion and grief and the specific dignity of a woman who has outlasted most of what she loved. When she tells Peter something true, it should land like it comes from deep in the well."I'm like his mother" should be a line she would never say. Because she knows exactly what she is and what is missing.

No but for real, why is his AUNT so goddamn old? Granted Peter is in his late 20s/early 30s, but still
>>153024498She is the oldest woman alive. She was part of the Celestial Host that seeded Earth with life. This is why she's been knocking on death's door for sixty years now.
>>153024498Watch or at least look up Golden Girls, and you will completely understand why May was drawn that old in the 60's
>>153028540So is Aunt May Dorothy or Sophia?
>>153028571Probably a combo of Sophia & Rose at first, but by the 80's and 90's you see hints of Dorothy in her shift in attitude
>>153024498At least 6
>>153024498Older than Peter.
>>153026407Seems like something John Byrne would do
>>153028424It’s not just that she’s old it’s that there’d pretty much have to be numerous other aunts and uncles between May/Ben and Peter’s parents to account for the gap and as far as I know that’s never been brought up.
I thought she was suppose to be in her 50-60s but they just drew her looking older, and now shes probably in her 70s if Peter is in his late 20s. I always head cannoned it as Ben being 10 years older than Richard to explain why they look old when Peter is a teenager. I dont think Marvel ever said how old Richard and Mary were when they had Peter but lets say they were in their mid 30's when Peter was born. That Ben and May their mid 40's and by the time Peter is in High school at they would be in their 60's.

>>153024498They came from a day where it was not uncommon to have a 40 year old with a newborn baby brother. Lastly. Its obvious that Lee wanted some hot 30s - 40s piece of ass as his aunt may but the actual creatives wanted elderly grandparents. So they cane up with a bad compromise/snuck it in under Lee's nose.So now wer're stuck with this. They fixed it by making May in ultimate and yhe movies.
>May has been killed twices and both were decent ways to kill her>They revive her twice and both of them sucked>The more popular Spiderman media(game and Films) killed her>Batman on the other side the author killed alfred>People tough will we revive shortly>Soon will be 7 years since Alfred dead and like 4 since Waid said is gonna stay day in batman vs robinlolmao
>>153028424Ditko wanted her ancient as yet another impediment for Peter Parker's social life.>During one of my visits to Ditko’s studio he told me that Stan Lee originally wanted the Aunt May character to look like (voluptuous ’60s actress) Gina Lollobrigida! Ditko wanted the Aunt May we know, for all the drama/storyline reasons you guys spoke of. I remember he said something about the elderly aunt being a sort of impediment for Peter’s relations to other kids; that Peter would feel awkward inviting kids to his house. Aunt May was a factor that separated him from his contemporaries. As far as I know, that was never part of a storyline, but like a good actor Ditko had imagined his character’s lives and personalities very vividly and in more detail than was seen by the audience!

>>153027461>>153027502really good post. May's age adds to Peter's alienation. There's also the fact that she's not related by blood, just marriage. The only family Peter has left is a generation removed and only connected through marriage. before retcons, she probably didn't even know Peter's parents all that well.
