people are just tasteless, or most likely the marketing was just shit, I certainly never heard of it before picking it out on a whim at the video store.the copy I rented had no credits, just the seren space imagery with music over it. it was kinda trippy. I think it was left blank for localization? but it was an english copy. odd mistake to make but I think it enhanced the movie somehow.I think there was also maybe a mismatch of expectations? the disney rennaissance and bluths earlier films had created this expectation of animation as being for little kids, but it was more of an action thriller movie. it could have been live action and no-one would have batted an eyelid.personally I think it has that same intangible, special feeling to it as the original star wars, or any of the great adventure movies like indiana jones, stargate, the mummy etc. it's truly great.and it's possibly THE purest expression of that early 2000's dark sci-fi style. it's like a 90 minute video game cutscene, in the best possible way.on one hand I wish it had been succesful, there was going to be a video game, comics, tie-in novels, maybe a sequel? It could have been a whole thing. On the other hand we don't have to endure endless shitty nostalgia baiting sequels, remakes and cultural vandalism since the soulless suits just don't care about a financial failure. An American Tail and land Before Time are the ones I might consider Don Bluth's masterpieces, which isn't to say Titan AE doesn't contest this category at the end of the day.
