>SPHINX LARPed as saturday morning villains like most "villains" in the show, just with poison capsules implanted in the brains of their operatives.
>One day, a bunch of guys from the GCI fuck up an attempt to expose the secrets of the "hero" Jonas Venture, who was much closer to an actual villain and deserved to have his true nature revealed, an act of accidental heroism had it not resulted in his apparent death instead.
>Jonas was put on life support but his team fucked it up so that only his head could be preserved, missing the opportunity to de-escalate the situation simply because they were embarrassed.
>The Sovereign framed SPHINX for the fiasco in order to avoid taking the heat.
>The OSI decided to commit a series of war crimes against SPHINX to get rid of them and SPHINX probably never really understood why the LARP turned so sour on them.
>Hunter Gathers from OSI stowed the confiscated SPHINX armory away and eventually used sair armory for himself when he simply tired of the bureaucracy of the OSI to do his own rogue version of it.
>Hunter is eventually re-instated into the OSI and put in charge, at which point he just reinstates everyone but 21 who was never part of the OSI and pretend the whole thing never happened.
>21 then tries to create his own version of SPHINX by running a recruitment drive, which only attracts the old members of SPHINX who really just want to die in one final LARP before the poison capsules in the brains starts leaking.
>Instead they're just arrested and Hunter needlessly blows up their already evacuated flying fortress as he wanted to pretend he won a battle, while the Monarch accidentally blows up the hangar with the rest of the gear, leaving the old SPHINX to just die from brain poisoning in jail.

SPHINX might be the saddest faction in Venture Bros, I didn't even bring up the Commander pretending Hank is his ex just because he wants the final LARP to be just like old times.

see this is why I still come to /co/
I would never have pieced this shit together myself. I'm still laughing at 'haha, villain union'
>>
>>153055865
It's funny how Jonny Quest's legacy is pretty much gay jokes and Venture Brothers.
>>
>>153056100
It's more dignified than the void of nothingness other 60s toons were dumped in
>>
>>153055865
It's in relation to how the villian faction in a lot of Sat-Am's got forgotten alot faster than the heroes.
People know Lion-O and Cheetara but who remembers Mum-rahs army. How many Cobra Commanders do you rmemeber.
The villans just get left as fodder most of the time
>>
>>153055865
Like how there was a whole other third group that LARPed as Villains like The Guild but with a tighter theme and cohesion who got absolutely decimated the moment the OSI stopped LARPing
Really shows how easy it is for things to go south if you or it's believed you LARPed too hard.
What's great about Hunter reviving SPHINX after getting disillusioned with the OSI is that despite Hunter going after villains he's not going after "Guild" villains, just guys who don't operate under them. The revived SPHINX is still just a LARP, they're just taking out people who think their game is stupid and don't want to play it. Hunters SPHINX is at best the OSI's cleanup crew

I remember the Lunataks because I started wondering how much influence the japanese animators had

Was the Monarch always meant to be a Rusty Clone or at least one of Jonas's bastards? I mean, he certainly always resembled Jonas' other children, even getting the same facial hairstyle.
>>
>>153056578
>Was the Monarch always meant to be a Rusty Clone or at least one of Jonas's bastards?
They were really ambiguous about it. They probably hadn't made up their minds until season 6 or so. Yes, he has red hair like Rusty and Jonas. Yes, they imply in the later seasons about Jonas having something to do with his birth. They set up the possibilities, but they also gave themselves some room out by having his mother look almost like a female version of him with her also having red hair and a less pronounced version of his nose. They had the ideas for it, but they still wanted ways out if they decided they didn't want to commit to it. Just like with Myra when she was introduced as potentially being Hank and Dean's mom. The implication was there, but they allowed themselves some room if they had other ideas, which they eventually did.

yeahh these guys are masters of continuity, but they're not fucking Greg Weisman with just sixteen layers of keikaku sandwiched like a fucking... writing baklava.
Instead they relax and they let the story come to them, just like I do. And once in a while your story goes "hey these guys look alike" or "that random name you tossed out once is actually pretty funny" or "what if that person is NOT whom they were presented as?"

>captcha image of Churuya is apparently not the correct answer
Thanks, pranks. Tranks.

ironically, i think Cobra has more iconic members than GI Joe. arguably, Cobra Commander, Destro, Baroness, and Storm Shadow are all more popular than what GI Joe has (who only really have Duke, Snake Eyes, and Scarlet in terms of popularity - and even then, Snake Eyes is the only one people really seem to care about),
>>

just so.

man I'm rewatching Mao Mao, and I so miss hearing mcculloch's voice in things. Dude is incredible.
>>
>>153055865
This also reminds me, what ever happened to that group of people living in the compounds evacuation tunnels? The ones obsessed with the M.O.T.H.E.R. computer.
Between Hunter's Sphinx, The tunnels, Old Ben, The stuff Orphius gets up to. There was a ton of shit going on within the compound beyond just the Venture Home/lab. Doc was an idiot just abandoning such a massive piece of real estate to rot while he moved in New York.
>>
>>153056958
>Doc was an idiot
As per usual.
>>
>>153056578
>Was the Monarch always meant to be a Rusty Clone or at least one of Jonas's bastards?
Remember when Rusty's Arch-Villain was Underbite and The Monarch was just some other dude who was also arching him? I don't think they were meant to be related in the beginning
Monarch just got more screen time when the writers realized Underbite kind of sucks

>>153056958
Rusty was selling off and renting out whatever he could to keep himself afloat with that Compound, he's just terrible with money

Hank is gonna grow up to be like Brock and Dean is gonna grow up to be like Rusty but both more chill and well-rounded individuals.

I am only just now learning about SPHINX Commander but he immediately is one of my favorite cape designs of all time. What a fucking boss.
>>
>>153056958
The cultists burned when the rocket of shit launched.
>>
>>153056958
The compound itself honestly felt like one of the main characters and the show was missing something when it moved to New York.
>>
>>153056958
>>153057146
Right?
btw I think they died when the rocket went off.

So, best character and why is it DOCTOR BYRRON ORRPHEUSSS?

I mean, he's literally just Cobra Commander with a palette swap and one of those Egyptian crown things.
>>
>>153057234
But remarkably, that's enough. The headress really puts work in.
Not to shit on Cobra Commander, almost every costume he's had is top tier.
>>
I wish Dean actually became a vampire in the movie. I get that the writers love their anticlimaxes, but the finale movie where you have a shitload of stuff to cover in a very limited amount of time is a bad place to include a time wasting plot that goes nowhere.
>>
>>153057362
yeah the colors are everything
cobra commander looks like a cop
>>
>>153057477
it wasted like 5 minutes, and it was Dean's last time to be VERY Dean.
Hank got to be so Hank that he was every Hank. t'was only fair.
>>
>>153056733
Given what we later find out about Jonas, him cucking Blue Morpho wouldn't have been out of character.
>>
>>153055865
The OSI are basically mega-glowies dude, did you expect anything less? The Sphinx dudes are lucky they weren’t put into Super Gitmo and unpersoned everyone who knew them having their memories wiped.
>>
>>153056958
>what ever happened to that group of people living in the compounds evacuation tunnels?
They were disintegrated. Every single one of them is dead. Otherwise Rusty would've ran into them again when he released his baby-aspirin antidote into the E-den.
>>153057576
>Given what we later find out about Jonas, him cucking Blue Morpho wouldn't have been out of character.
Exactly. That was very much an implication that contributed to the connection between the Monarch and the Ventures.
>My science is quite potent!
>>
this show had a high rando body count, almost Dilbert tier.
>>
>>153056578
>You're about what, a size Doc?

at least since season 4

>>153055865
how come Brock was already working with OSI and Gathers in 1986 at the Goodwill Games if he believes he got recruited to OSI after Movie Night in 1987? but here's a thing

Rusty's dad definitively dies in 1987 and Rusty leaves college, where Brock has been his roommate, and Brock thinks he goes to join the army then

and Rusty isn't (or doesn't believe that he is) 24 years old at that point because he says he didn't sleep with Leslie Cohen (as he didn't lose his virginity until he was 24)

and Rusty couldn't have been 12 any earlier than 1976 if Linda Lovelace in her anti-porn days was invited to his 12th birthday party, but is also clearly the same age as the Monarch (which makes sense given they're effectively clones from the same program and would have been created together) who was "born" in 1968

and being born in 1968 would make Rusty about 19 when his dad dies in 1987, which is fine, except that Rusty was already like 8 in 1968 when he was kidnapped in Greece, and Rusty and the Monarch are clearly the same age as kids when they're pictured together, or not far off each other

>"not today, Rusty, not today"

if Hank and Dean were born when Myra was still around the compound, they must be about 18-20 as of "Dr Quymn" even though they think they're 16, because Rusty says he hasn't had sex in over 19 years at that point

so Rusty could easily be 5-10 years older than he thinks he is
>>
>>153055865
Thats one of my biggest gripes in Venture Bros. Was just how much shit Gathers was just allowed to get away with. He was a colossol hypocrite and I dont think the show was aware of that.
>>
>>153057743
thing is, he's got at least 6 inches on Doc

oh dude, sliding timescale.
>>
>>153057762
i mean
he was hunter s. thompson
>>
>>153057772
no, no, they already knew when they wrote Movie Night happening in 1987 that Brock had been working for OSI in 1986

that's not sliding timescale, that's like a light wednesday
>>
>>153057828
wait help my idiot ass out, why is that a contradicks
>>
>>153057743
>how come Brock was already working with OSI and Gathers in 1986 at the Goodwill Games if he believes he got recruited to OSI after Movie Night in 1987
Because Doc and Jackson made a mistake. Or the goodwill games happened after 1987 just like how in that universe Game of Thrones came out in 2009 instead of 2010.
>>
>>153057743
>but is also clearly the same age as the Monarch (which makes sense given they're effectively clones from the same program and would have been created togethe
They're not the same age. Rusty is older. Monarch was still a freshman in 1987. Rusty, the one we know throughout the series was "born" in 1965.
>>
>>153057932
Rusty was 22 in college?
>>
>>153057800
I'm sorry but I dont understand the full relevency of him being a pastiche of Thompson. Was Thompson hypocritical?
>>
>>153058184
22 is the normal age to graduate with a Bachelors if you don't dick around, with an additional 4 years after that for a Masters.
>>
>>153058536
I guess I'm just surprised it he made it that far.
