What is point of Superman clones? Evil or otherwise? What are they supposed to represent besides Superman himself? Are people going to stop doing this shit once Superman goes public domain?
Superman isn't only defined by his power. If they have a different personality than Clark they have a point.
They represent the 'typical superhero'. Which is closely aligned with Superman because of his general popularity.Well, except when it's actually just referencing Superman, like with Ultraman. That's literally Superman in another universe. And Homelander is a shitty parody of Superman directly just as all the characters in that braindead series are parodies. But for characters like Sentry the fact that he flies and has super strength and endurance and those kinds of things are just ancillary aspects of the character to represent his 'this is a superhero' factor when the character is really about mental illness and the human aspect of heroes.

>>153060300it's a reference to poly religions. In Greek and Nordic, the gods are allowed to be evil for example.
>>153060300Superman doesn't hold the monopoly on flying bricks with capes. It's like saying every animal themed street level fighter is a batman knock off
>>153060317What I like about the Incredibles is that has a tone fitting the concept of Superheroes. It seems to know Superheroes would be like on personality level. Randian and a bit egoistical. I really can't see how Superman is a symbol of hope anymore than someone like Green Lantern or Martian Manhunter.

>>153060300Captain Marvel wasn't really a superman clone, their stories were completely different.
>>153060507These characters are largely meant to be Superman expies by design though
>>153060300It's like Superman, but he do da murrdurr.
>>153061646Try saying that to the lawyers
>>153062062The lawyers didn't really care, comics were seen as too lowbrow.
Superman is basically the most important fictional creation of the 20th century. There’s always going to be interest in exploring variations of how he could have turned out in different conditions.

>>153060332>>153060336May as well put The Immortal, Brit, and Black Samson in there, too, since they're whole thing is just bring a weaker version of Omni-Man.
>>153060483All of the "gods" other than the one true God are evil because they're the imagination of man's evil heart.
>>153060300Superman was popular enough at his peak to become the default superhero in the minds of the general public. Even if you never read a single comic book, you're familiar with his basic abilities and personality. That template is easy for writers to play around with, either as a shortcut to defining a new character or to subvert and "shock" the audience. Often times a combination of both. That said, it's so overdone that even normies are getting tired of Evil Superman. We might be due for a Good Superman Renaissance. That will never happen.
>>153062062Fawcett would've run off he appealed. All of their claims of infringement were things that predated Superman and had already been done by Popeye and Tarzan.
>>153063691Proto DC won because they were sue happy, and hit a homerun with Robin.
