I'm like the essence of a fairweather fan of smiling friends and it's pretty obvious to me the show still had legs, it was short format, it was flexible, they were willing to do all kinds of silly shit with it...unless there's something else better in the pipeline, why just give up? If clinging to your personal notions of quality so inflexibly leads to the project just ending completely...then you probably shouldn't be in that line of work.granted it was a lot more high effort in it's production quality than ATHF, but that amassed a total of 144 episodes total over the years and a lasting legacy of memorable lines and sequences that people still quote and laugh about to this day. Smiling Friends had more going on than ATHF.hire some fucking writers? Workshop? Take a long vacation? Do they think everything in classic era Simpsons just serendipitously appeared ready to go for those guys in the writers room? and then for early futurama where some of those same guys ended up? why go to all the trouble to get the ball rolling on a project, establish a fanbase and then just abandon it? from both the like creative project and the money-making entertainment business side of things it doesn't add up.look at fucking Venture Bros and how GIGANTIC the gaps were between seasons, Adult Swim got a little fed up with those guys but they still worked with them...because they knew the fans were there and still wanted more.

But my guess is that they want to say they ended it since it lets them feel that they have ultimate control over the show instead of the network and they won't have autists constantly bugging them when there going to make a season 4 if it was just a hiatus. Now why Zach and Micheal don't want to hire a writers room even though plenty of good cartoons had them and it could help them from getting burnout. I think its just a quality control thing, they want to make sure every joke lands and its hard to find people on the same wave length as them, or they don't want to hire someone who does a bad imitation on what they think smiling friends humor is a la the Simpsons with the screaming friends joke. And if they have a writers room its easier for the network to keep the show going without out them. And I imagine they don't want to see their work slowly decay into something like the Simpsons or Rick and Morty.
Tbf they were right to end it cos u got fucking vent art being drawn about pim and Charlie and all sorts of horrid shit so I think it’s a good call to just end it and then probably just do oneyplays shit forever

Not sure why Zach didn't just hire all them on as creative consultants, or reach out to more Newgrounds guys. Hell, I'm sure even Marc M could've recommended some guys, he's pretty well connected
