I think due to the length of time this show has gone on for, there's a portion of the fanbase who simply aren't interested in the type of show it is and probably wouldn't have watched it if it had all been released at once, and they're finally realising that now that we're at the pointy end. But they're too emotionally attached at this point, so instead of realising it's just not their cup of tea, they're angry and think it's a writing flaw that the show's not fulfilling expectations they made up in their heads that it was never trying to achieve.
