i'd say about 99% of people who claim to be nazis or post images of cartoon characters dressed up like nazis are just being edgy. wider society has stopped listening to vast swaths of young men and so being inflammatory and bringing up all of the most taboo topics is their way of crying out to the world. these people are stuck in positions where nobody gives them the time of day, but everybody comes flocking when they say horrible shit online. it's not hard to see why it happens, and everybody feeds into it because they get a high from going on witch hunts for supposed extremists.

Zach Hadel isn’t a neo-Nazi. He made the “I love my country” speech echo a Nazi slogan on purpose because he thought it would trigger autistic fans and critics, but his specific slip-up was that he expected them to accuse him of not thinking his Nazism would be noticed, not that we’d notice he was trolling. The same thing applies to the Jew joke at the end of Season 3. Zach’s politics are essentially ultra-fundamentalist Catholic with anti-porn, homophobic and xenophobic features. Sam Hyde dickriders are the new Republicans, basically.

it's sad in a number of ways. the fact that our society has apparently convinced untold numbers of young men that absolutely nobody cares about them or will listen to them is worrying. large amounts of discontented and disconnected young men is how you actually arrive at those types of scenarios where everyone loses. something fundamental has gone wrong
