Most cities have 'gay districts'. Castro Street, Greenwich Village, Loring Park etc.

What is Gotham City's gay area?

Robinson Park USEd to be the city's gay-district up until the AIDS crisis. Cops would bust up gangs of leateherboys doing orgies in the park having orgies.
I think that these days Robinson park is now center of the 'gentrified' part of town -- all the gay peopel increased the property values.

Now the down-market 'queer district' includes the non-shipping parts of the Marina district-- which ironically is where Tim Drake relocated himself to after he came out.

The old riverside industrial district; every formerky abandoned steel mill in town is now a dance club/.

I feel like this might actually be true in the comics.

I know that the old abandoned YMCA was used as a cruising spot for Rent Boys.

Gotham doesn't really have one. There have been a few neighborhoods that people could count as "gay districts" but none that would have a consensus agreement. Historically there was Elm Street, though that wasn't so much a gay district as an extension of the notoriously exploitative Habor Hill red light district that existed in the last quarter of the 19th century. There you could find boardinghouses where rentboys plied their trade but not so much in the way of community. Others would point to the Grandville neighborhood, in particular Pulton's Tavern - the first widely acknowledged gay bar in the city - though the notion of Grandville as a gay district is disputed as Grandville was always primarily commercial and industrial zoning and Pulton's Tavern was only in business for 6 years before being torn down in 1959. The most obvious candidate is Murfield, originally a light rail commuter suburb that saw rebirth as a bohemian enclave post-WW2; however, even though it is within the Gotham City metropolitan area, Murfield is actually a separate town outside the city limits of Gotham City proper. Lastly, there is Bellington, the current hot neighborhood for gay people which has been roundly criticized as nothing more than an astroturfed ad campaign by developers looking to block bust historic minority communities as part of a gentrification scheme using queer people as a shield.

+1 for a real answer.

Gotham City has a thriving 'scene', but no real 'gay neighbourhood' (other than being a signifigant portion of the population around Robinson Park, just because of the location's reputation, like Loring Park in Minneapolis.)

In Gotham Knights it's the West End.

In all seriousness, the marina area by the North End of Sprang Bridge (named for Dick Sprang) seems to be the current hohemian neighbourhood. As people on the margins keep being priced out of apartments by gentrification, this area stayed affrodable -- even if (like Tim) that means rending a boat slip and living on a hoseboat.

That little gangly bit of land that looks like a penis hanging off the upper-east side of Gotham City? That's where the gays hang out.

That's not correct. Gotham's "Little Bohemia" was Burnley Harbor on the West shore of the central island. Tim spececifically moved to the 'little' docks at the mouth of the Finger River where it's too shallow for comercial shipping and too unstable to build real estate,so it remains affordable for personal boat slips. it overlaps the arts district. (As in artists, not as in 'fine arts'.)

The area by Sprang Bridge is the 'seedy gay' part of the city, with lots of rent boys. Both have boatslips, but they're on different islands and opposite sides of Gotham City.

Fun fact: Tim canonically patrolled the rent boy district for YEARS before there was even a hint of him coming out, because the workign boys there responded better to him than Batman.

>Burnley Harbour
...which is presumably the neighbourhood Gotham Knights was calling the 'West End', since the video game company made up its own geography of Gotham rather than use the trad one, though some areas do share names.

Since their West End is more buildings, it would presumably be the buildings between Burnley Harbour and Bryanttown. (Bryanttown also being known as East Brunley, which id basically Gotham's version of the the nice partially-gentrified parts of Harlem without forcing the population out.)

According to the official DC comics wiki, the Bunley neighbourhood is on the North island (despite being supposedly near the Gotham State campus, which is near Robinson Park on the Central island.)

Best guess the 'Bunley harbour' is all of the little boatslips alogn the Sprang River, with the upscale ats district ont he west end, and the seedier on the east side near the Sprang Bridge.

I don't think that's true. I think SOME cities have "gay districts", but MOST is a bit excessive.

The subway map from the Joker film makes it pretty clear that Bunley is on the North island.
(But Joker also seems to eliminate Robinson Park completely.)

Really funny that the penis-shaped peninsula where the Rent Boys are found is labeled as 'Amusement Mile'.

Most large cities. All of the examples I posted were int he top 10 cities by size in the US. (Well, if you count Minneapolis/St. Paul as one unit, which you should.)

You have the class politivcs backward.
Amusement Mile by the Sprang Bridge is where the Rogers Yacht Basin is located. The richies part ont he east with access to the ocean, and the poors are to the West qitrh the arts district.

The Time Drake: Robin comic mentions Moench Row as beinng near the Marina, meaning Tim's down-market marina isn't in the Bunley Marina arts district -- it's near Amusment Mile on the east side of Gotham. Home to amusement parts, shuttered warehouses and squatter's flats, high-toes marinas for the super-wealthy... and little pocket marinas liek the one Tim lives in.

I don't think anyone in Gotham cares if you suck cock as long as you aren't planning to become a supervillain with a cock sucking gimmick who robs the Gotham Museum's display of ancient dildos or something.
